    Short version of the story:

My sister has to fly to Seattle for a funeral - in her son in-law's family. She is taking a bomber or two from here (Atlanta area) to give to her daughter and son in-law. And she will be there until the middle of next week.

Which one or two bombers would you recommend? Looking for something good that we can't get in Georgia.

IPAs, Stouts, maybe a Bourbon-barrel aged Stout. Her son in-law is beer savvy, but he and her daughter are flying in from Poland (long story), so he may not be aware of currently available "specials".

    Many Thanks.

If I could get only one beer, I'd pick up Fremont Bourbon Barrel Abominable (also known as B-Bomb), released a few weeks ago and still available in some stores around town. Pike XXXXX Stout and Elysian Dragonstooth are also good and widely available, but they're not barrel-aged. Probably too many IPAs to try to list here. Others can chime in.

QFC U-Village has TONS of Bourbon Abominable. Saw it there last night. $17.99, I think.

Am I just incredibly unlucky w/ this brewery? Two of the four beers I've had from them—Tripel Entendre and Koperen Ketel—have been almost completely flat and disappointing overall. I keep hearing great things about this brewery (including from our favorite local beer critic/blogger, who shall remain nameless) but so far my experience has been mixed at best. Usually when there's smoke there's fire—e.g., Boneyard—but with Sound Brewery I've gotten more duds than I would have expected.

Both their stouts & their double IPA are great. Not sure if they bottle the stouts but worth trying if on tap.

Ursus Spælus blew me away. Love the double IPA, too.

Sounds like to just avoid Tripel Entendre and Koperen Ketel and you should be fine:slight_smile: Their Dubbel, Imperial Stout, latona ipa, hefe, relectant ipa, monks indescretion and even the pale quad have all been quality beers worth trying:slight_smile:

Sounds Monks Indiscretion just might be the best beer brewed in Washington. So good.

Tough luck with the Sound Brewing experience Dan. I enjoy them immensely myself. I served the Humulo Nimbus at Christmas - very good. I've liked everything I've tried including the Tripel Entendre & others. Had the Bevrijdr at the brewery & grabbed a growler to go. Yummy.

Eh, based on responses I think I'll chalk up my experiences to batch variation. Hell, there's a highly acclaimed brewery out of Portland that has similar issues. I had a 2010 Doggie Claws that was among the best barleywines I've ever tasted. Then I recently saw a photo of a 2012 bottle that looked like the dregs out of a 5-gallon carboy.

I'll keep trying Sound beers with an open mind.

Exactly. The only Blue Dot I've liked was on tap at the brewery. Different experiences? Luck of the draw? Different tastes? whatever.

She only had room for 1 bottle 1 checked bag. My 5 choices were "B-Bomb", Dragonstooth, the Abyss, Pliny the Elder, or Blind Pig. My niece told me on Facebook that she got one of these 5, but that I would have to wait 'til the weekend to get the surprise.

I tried the Abyss and Pliny the Elder at the 2012 Brick Store HMOG, but any of these would probably be welcomed if there is a 2013 version. (Hint, hint).

We don't/didn't get Blind Pig in WA, so you can cross that off the list of possibilities.

As it was short notice (it was for a funeral, after all), I didn't have time to research all of these. Will just have to wait and see. Thanks.
