Just watching the cricket and found out that the new stand will have a microbrewery in it.

Two things: this can only be a good thing for sports and beer fans in Sydney. Secondly, does anyone know who will be running it?

Definitely a good thing for sport.

Yes the SCG will still be selling its usual macro swill but brewing and selling its own 'craft' beers will cater to the more sophisticated crowd.

And it's very much a good thing for the SCG Trust and whoever else is profiting from this venture as it's the poms that are coming over next summer and we all know how much they like their ales...

Booyah! chocked on the carlton draft atthe last game I went at. Petco Stadium in San Diego has the usuals on offer, and mobile craft bars. Drinking Arrogant bastard and Sculpin whilst sitting in the stands led to a rather interesting evening downtown in the Gas Light area ...

The Brisbane Brewhouse is close enough to the Gabba that you could almost duck out for a pint between overs and tip another into a pocket flask for later compared to the time it takes to buy a $12 XXXX Gold at concession proper. That said the Brewhouse has only made one good beer so far, so neither really works for me and cricket without beer is not a pastime I enjoy. If this sort of thing catches on I imagine QLD will get it in about 2023.

The taphouse is close enough in Sydney to duck out during the lunch break but there are no passouts available from my experience!

I found what MrKennedy found as well but couldn't post the link because of typing on my phone. Good point re the Ashes next year prompting a demand for ales - let's hope some others follow suit!

This is awesome if it happens. Strange, because beer at sporting events over here in Perth is seen as a mortal sin. I dont drink at the footy because I dont like Carton Mid (the only beer available) all that much.

It would be nice to go the SCG and have a Walter's Wheat Beer, a Waugh Berlinerweisse, a Proven's Porter or Simpson's Stout.

Sit in the members at the WACA and they trust you with Crown. Of course, the $300 a year you have to pay for the privlege of paying more for a slightly better product isn't really worth it...

I'm confused how this squares with the policy that the SCG Trust introduced in 2006 to only serve light beer at test matches..

Could well be the world's first dedicated light-beer micro. I can hardly wait.

A skilled, creative brewer could work wonders. Sure the selection might be limited, but that shouldn't restrict the taste or quality of the beer.
In reality, I think your enthusiasm is warranted

I would love some low strength tasty Australian beers

Problem is most brewers who happen to brew low strength here also happen to be terrible

Not the most utilised sporting facility...assuming the Swans play about 10 home Aussie Rules games there a year with 20,000 - 40,000 in attendance...add in up to 5 days of Test Cricket and a few one-day games with the same number in the crowd, plus the solid turnout at Twenty20 games. They'd hardly drink them dry at the Sheffield Shield cricket games.

They play Saints vs Easts or Saints vs Souths or something there once a year or so don't they? That should put a dent in supplies. If they put a Knights vs Easts game there I'd come down and give it a nudge :-) Good luck to them! I hope they brew great beer and it is a raging success.

I do believe it would be a Souths v Wests Tigers game.

Would they sell much at a Collingwood game, or would it not mix well with the metho?

Ahh, those grounds are just next door ...
