Do traders inflate the scores they give to their local brews in hopes of creating a demand? Probably.
But, the ratings are what they are. The hads are always a bit higher, but they're still in line with the reviews for the most part.

Ha! Come on, if anything people local to Heady Topper should be rating it lower in order to DECREASE demand. Why would we want there to be more demand? Less for us.

Ok, maybe it's not a "fact" but the numbers I quoted are indisputable numbers. The ratings for the beers we can see on the top lists for each style, and the top 100 are all higher due to the immediate addition of "hads." As far as the bottom 100, I can't imagine tons of "hads" for Bud Light were added, and changed that number.

I was talking about "WR" as a 4.7. I don't check the top 100 too often, but everytime I've checked recently Pliny the Younger has been number 1, and this rating was never 4.7, and has never been 4.7 for a beer. Ann was number 1 on the top 100 at some point?

I have no problem with it being ranked #1 as it is one of my favorite beers to date! The problem I have is that I need more arms and legs to have it more often! Good gawd!!! lol

Because rankings are cool. They are intriguing. Nothing wrong with that.

I totally agree with this. I live pretty near by and pass by the brewery frequently so when I pick it up it's usually canning day or the day after. I find that it is a bit raw for the first week or three and then oh-so smooth over the next month or two.

Had 2 day old next to 9 day old, no difference. 6 week old is old, big difference. IMHO.

I won't lie, I'd need a sixer to test this for myself since I've yet to taste HT

I just remember seeing some post where it was stated that The Alchemist (and brewery employees) felt his brew needed a little time to really shine and thought I'd bring that up since so many BAs seem to chase IPAs that a mere days from being canned/bottled.

Same feelings here. Although i've had about 15 cans over the last 2 years. I Like the beer alot but there's at least 4-5 IPAs/DIPAs id take way before Heady. The more I drink it, the more I find it really good, just not Worthy of it's hype and over discussion on BA. Subjective, i know.

Listen, Heady Topper was a top shelf double ipa, but the best beer in the world? Even in terms of popular is ridiculous to me. IMO its not even the best of the American double/imperial ipa style. It was very good both times I've had it, and ive been really big on big IPAs this past year or so and I tell you if it's sitting on a shelf next to Dreadnaught and Pliny the elder both of those get grabbed first. I just don't see how it's ranked higher than either of those double IPAs, and while ive never had younger it's supposed to be better than elder. So that's for certain 3 better in the style alone with Bell's Hopslam probably jumping it as well. Honestly it's one of the best dipas in the world, but with the wizardry going on with this style I can't say it would even be a given in the top 10. For me with the big IPAs I've had it sits around 10-12. But hey that's just me

Do you think maybe that is just due to sheer freshness because of how quickly it sells? Like, Heady gets snatched up and drank even faster than Pliny, so maybe that is why it is rated so much higher.

That's just, like, your opinion man.

And apparently a lot of people disagree with you.

Heady just went from 4.7 to 4.71, with 2 "reviews" and 23 "hads" in the last 11 hrs. Hmmm...interesting, indeed.

I believe it is all those things but it is also a beer ranking website. I get it, the wizard has a lot of other functions but it can still be considered a tip calculator. The guy was surprised that people came on here and talked about or debated ratings and since that is a function of the website I found it an odd thing to say.

    Eh, nevermind.

Just suffice to say, my opinion of those who dither over rankings like this is rather low.

That's what the beer of fame 100 list is for..All brews with 1500+ reviews.

That's normally what I look at when seeing "how many of the top 100 beers" I've had.
