Holy Moly! What a great freak'n beer.

Gotta be a top 3 on my list of the best smelling IPA/DIPAs I've ever had. Ballast Point should sell candles with this scent.

Any other IPA/DIPAs that have blown you away on just the scent alone?

The Super IPA Sierra Nevada and Alpine did took my noise and tongue to a happy place.

Certainly agree on the Sucks and Stone 10th...fresh, those had just incredible scents. Had a Pliny that was about 2 months old, and it still smelled great. Have yet to try the others...thanks for the list sir.

Sculpin is one of the best, no doubt.

Ballast Point Big Eye IPA is fantastic too.

As Lutter said, fresh is key. Freshness can make or break a hoppy beer. All were bottled/canned in the past month, just had

    Surly Abrasive
    Surly Furious
    Jacks Abby Hoponius
    Bells Hopslam

I have my favorites but all were delicious. I didn't even plan on drinking tonight but when I get 4 hoppy beers in the same day that are all that fresh I have no option. Thanks to the guys who sent them to me

My dad sent me some Hoponius from when he was in Boston last year... that shit is delicious.

I keep asking for Surly in trades, but no one has offered! Need moar Minnesotan traders.

I just had a Sculpin last night. It was from the first batch to come to Houston. That makes it about a month old. It's already junk. I've never had an IPA that fell on its face so quickly. All trace of fruit was gone. Tasted like a six month old pale ale. I have older Abrasive (which is WAY better in the first place) that is drinking just like fresh.

If Sculpin can't last more than a month, it's doomed to fail in Houston.

Southern Star's ProAM is still holding on like a champ somehow.

I thought the same thing. Smells so good.

Had one stamped Enjoy by 4/2/13 a couple days ago and it was solid.

Unless Midtown Specs handled this beer incorrectly or something, they should all taste about the same.

I tried one on Tuesday and then another last night (just in case my taste buds were off on Tuesday). Both were just bad. Hops had no fruit note and tasted like a really old IPA. That's after a month. Add another month to that and it'll sour people on the whole idea.

I've never heard of an IPA that fell off that fast. :slight_frown: Sad thing is I had it in DFW last year and thought it was awful. I gave it another chance when it hit Houston and thought it was outstanding. I now know why. Get it within a week or two and it's great, but much longer than that and it's blech. I guess that's why the people close to the brewery talk about freshness. I thought they were just overly picky. lol

I bought mine on release day at the Shell station in Clear Lake. I drank my last one two nights ago and it still tasted pretty fresh.

Heady Topper trumps all in my IPA/IIPA rankings...although Super IPA was pretty epic.

I'm in love with this beer. Hitting hard in the wallet because I can't stop buying it.

If you can find their Dorado, it is pretty amazing.

    Racer X
    Super IPA

I am a big IPA fan, and Sculpin, at least in Dallas is readily available, and a great beer for the price. If you haven't had Sixpoint Resin, give it a try. I also second the fact that the Southern Star Pro Am is holding up well, I've still got a number of cans in the fridge.
