What are your thoughts on these two events? The hype surrounding these 2 beers/days is becoming legendary. Seriously, take a look at Founder's Facebook page. People are FUMING over not being able to buy tickets for the KBS release party. The same will happen when DLD tickets go on sale, and a bunch of people miss out on tickets, and take to the internet to unleash their RAGE about not getting them.

Why, when there are so many other good beers/ beer gatherings to to drink/attend, to people go so bat shit crazy over these two? Don't get me wrong, I love some KBS/DL. But, for cry pete, people go out of their minds.

    I don't get it.

I'll hopefully score a four pack of KBS from my local beer store. If not, life goes on. I'll find something else just as good and enjoy it with my friends.

Having tasted my first (and last) Dark Lord Sunday night, I don't get it either. I've heard the event itself is fun, regardless of the beer; but I wouldn't walk around the block for Dark Lord if they were giving it away for free. KBS, I can understand the excitement about the beer although I wouldn't jump through hoops for it.

Give me Parabola or Abyss, which I can buy at the grocery store.

    Flame away folks.

For me its the experience (in addition to a great beer). I have never been to DLD, but am going to try and make it this year. Overall, its the same reason why I stood in line for Pliny the Younger a few weeks ago. I enjoy trying new things and since I live in Oklahoma (where we get crap with regards to craft beer) its fun to get out, meet new people and experience a hell of a day.

Midwest beer, yo. Bottles filled with crude oil and trades at the price of gold. You'd step over your mother just to get a taste of the sweet nectar.

Dark Lord Day, while it started as being about the beer, has really become more about the event in recent years. Also, the bottling of the barrel aged variants definitely added to the hype. Personally, a bunch of friends from college always attend the event (every year since 2009), so it is the one day a year that I know I will get to see several old friends.

The KBS release last year was enough of a cluster that I didn't even bother trying to get tickets this year. I'm sure it will be a better event this year, but I'm cutting back anyway, so that was an easy choice to make.

I have to say I agree with you on this one. That said I camped out at Darkness this year even though I had access to bottles after the release... The parties are the most fun in my opinion because of all the wild and unusual stuff people show up with. But to get that bent over not getting a few bottles of KBS or DL is absurd. I've been shut out of KBS 2 times in the last 3 years, it happens.

I just go to my buddies house and knock holes in his drywall until I find the whales he's hiding in there.

If I lived near FFF It could seem somewhat fun to go and hang out! But more for the experience and fun and maybe beers you'll be able to trade for while there than DL itself. And I mean live near, as in the town.

I'm trying to go to both this year simply to experience it. Luckily I got a ticket to one of the KBS days, and I'll try my luck with DLD tickets. I haven't tried either beer yet, so that definitely plays a role in my excitement. I'm sure this will be my first and last KBS day because I have a hookup at my local liquor store, so I'll be able to get a 4 pack each year as long as he's there. DLD seems a bit different with the day's entertainment and extremely low availability of the beer itself, so that will depend on how much I enjoy the beer.

I havent had either yet but Parabola remains one of my top favorite ba stouts, especially due to the price and availability (not as easy to get in Jersey but easy for others)

Dark Lord Day is a better event with more guest taps. The only downside is the actual dark lord beer.

I agree that the only reason I'm considering going to Dark Lord Day is becasue the beer is basically impossible to get unless you buy it from someone who went that day. Not to mention if you do find someone willing to sell they are asking AT LEAST twice what they paid for it. And that is just for the regular Dark Lord. Don't even get me started on the special releases like Vanilla Bean. I think Floyds should consider making this a two day event. I mean, they have a whole year to brew the beer. They can at least make it available for 2 days. But it doesn't really matter what I or anyone else thinks because FFF does whatever they want , when, and how they want to do it - becasue they can.

I've never been to DLD and really want to go this year. The bottle sharing both at the hotel and at DLD sounds like so much fun, as well as cool guest taps and cool FFF variants on tap. If you don't like DL you can easily trade it for something you like more. I personally like Dark Lord, don't love it, but once a year or so its a good beer.

I'm hoping all the DL hate translates into a less stressful time in me getting tickets.

Personally, I love regular and variant DL and have enjoyed the event for the past 3 years in a row. It is like a giant bottle share in line and the draft list has always seemed pretty stellar.

People go batshit because other people are going batshit so they assume that going batshit is the appropriate response. The hype surrounding beers becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy....until you actually drink the beer.

Yeah, I'm going to just hope I can get some KBS from local shops. Basically I don't have the time or money to make the drive in the middle of the week to attend. So that's fine, feel free to go batshit because you can. And make sure to enjoy it for me!

well you still need to get the Dark Lord seriously I'll buy it from you I've been trying to convince FFF to let me buy a case or 2 for a while now but do people really just go for the festival that don't even like the beer?

I think they should also have all the Barrel aged Dark Lords on tap during Dark Lord day.
