    Hi there,

I first noticed this style of dating on some Aprihop, but it has been sitting in the store for awhile so I didn't bother. Picked up a 4-pack of Punkin today, and the neck reads:

    Bottled on
    2014G 1121

Can someone translate that for me please?

    edit: cool label though.

Batch G in 2014. I would take a guess that 1121 is a best by date of 11/21.

Whatever the 201st day of the year is.

This is definitely not a new way to date bottles, and is actually used by many breweries. Usually on the neck of the bottle or on the bottom of it.

It's possible that the G stands for August, which seems needlessly complicated.

Julian calendar dating. Almost any time you see a 4 digit #, especially ending in the last # of the year you are in (or previous year) you will be looking at Julian dating.

IMO any "best by" date is fairly obnoxious in itself...just tell me the bottling date and move on!

Don't think it's Julian since the first digit is 1, not 4 and the last three digits (121) would put the bottle date as May 1 - way early for pumpkin ale.

Exactly this. Just tell me what date you bottled on and I will decide the best by date myself.

201st day of '14. I think it's just coicindence that the number happens to be 2014.

4G is the cell phone band, 1121 is part of a locker combination...

I suppose it could be a julian date code, but it seems weird to me that they would use mm/dd/yy on their regular line up and then switch for their seasonals.

    I think it's like lagunitas code. Day of year 201 = July 20, 4 = 2014 and the time 11:21am.

It's not Julian dating at all. I don't know why why do this with seasonals, when they have precise dates on all year round beers. It's a batch code telling you it was bottled in July 2014. A=Jan, B=Feb, C=March etc.... Proof: This years Aprihop said 2014C and I drank it in April.

I would take a julian code over that "code" but what's the date? It only gives the month? Which I am cool with, just seems weird. Maybe only the date because it's a seasonal? The think doesn't make much sense but I sure look forward to my punkin.

It's only the month for the seasonals and the some of the 750s. 2014"letter" for them. It's a bit confusing why they go about this, go out there right now and buy a 6 pack of 60 minute and it will be dated MM/DD/YY. Makes no sense.

I have some old Punkin Ales (2012 and 2013) with M and R on them. I assumed that meant Milton and Rehoboth (i.e. where the 2 brewery locations are).

Forget the bottling date, I hate the new labeling. But, it certainly won't prevent me from buying the brew since I already consumed one today.

Does punkin sit anywhere? Seems like checking the bottling dates on fast selling seasonals with new labels for the year is pointless
