120 minute

Discussion in 'US - Southwest' started by squirrely2005, Jan 16, 2013.

  1. So I was thinking about drinking my 120 from September. I feel like I shouldn't BUT there's an HEB that has a to. Of it. Just to be sure though I looked up on DFHs website about when its coming out again and it doesn't say distribution would be to Texas.
Does anybody know if we'll get it again in February? I probably won't drink it but still curious.

I've already been hearing about places getting it again around Texas, so I wouldn't worry about drinking it.

I don't think our Central Market ever ran out!
  3. Hmm ok. The HEB plus on bandera and 1604 has sooo much of it. I think I might drink it. These would have to be from September though right?
Think we'll get it in February? I'm just unfamiliar with how it all works.
  4. I just realized you said again which would mean from September.

Gabriel's has received three cases this month in addition to the two we had leftover from the fall. We may get a few more cases today. I think 120 is going to be abundant for a while.

I saw a stack of 3-4 cases of 120 minute at the Specs on Airport. Those lazy bastards always have empty sku's on the shelves and tons of random stuff in the back.

I saw some on the shelves at Spec's Smith St and picked some up at HEB Central Market last week. The date code on the bottles is different than the code from the bottles I picked up in September.

There was a new batch. It's all over.

I try to buy 1 every batch so I can keep them aging. This beer needs time.

3 bottles were on the shelf at Houston-Specs Downtown. I bought 2. I think there were more that were out and someone went buy crazy.

I kind of want to drink one now and age the other. But I hear it's quite sweet. Would I be better off just aging them both? I have patience.

The longer it sits, the more sweet it gets. Fresh, the stuff is hoppy as all get-out. After time the hops drop out and the balance transitions from bitter to sweet.

    DanzBorin Initiate (0) Texas Apr 11, 2012

I find the exact opposite is true.

Fresh it's a sweet syrupy alcoholic mess. With time it actually develops a hop presence. I find 6 months to a year is the sweet spot.

And yes, I know this is against everything we all know about IPAs and I can't explain it.

Mind you that it's never really a hoppy beer.

  23. I agree. When it is new it is undrinkably sweet for me. But with at least a year on it, it mellows and becomes slightly more balanced. Still not one of my favorites. I have some I'm going to let sit for a long time and see if it helps.

6 isn't so bad. Other than the fact it's $10 a bottle. lol

I would never hoard that beer. It's a nice one about once a year. Other than that, I can pass.

I said the same thing about the price. I only had it for the first time like 6 months ago, so it was exciting to finally get the Big brother to the 60-90 minute.

Have you ever had fresh DFH 120 Min? No. Then buy 2 or 3 and drink one now and age the rest at least a year. There is no other reasonable answer to the 'drink now or age it?' question.

Taste is subjective and just because some people don't enjoy it fresh but do after a few months/ years does not mean you will so drink it and if you like it drink more of it. Ageing it might ruin it for you and your specific palate.
  36. I had it fresh when I bought it in September. I ended up drinking it and ill probably go buy one on Friday when I get paid. I'm hoping they'll still be there but if not its nothing ill cry over.
It tasted...the same as it did in September to me. I thought it'd change a little but it tasted basically the same.

Even at that I think it will last a while due to price.
