For those of you who don't want to click the link:

Synopsis: Sierra Nevada made hop oil from fresh hops. Prior, hop oil had always been made with dried hops. They can now add fresh hop essence to any beer, regardless of the season.

Pretty cool. Coming from Sierra Nevada lends this a ton of credibility. Looking forward to checking it out.

    From the linked article:

Hmmm.... "reminds me" of real wet hopped beer. Not the most ringing endorsement possible.

I'll repost my response to your original thread...

This is why SN is and will always be badass...been in the beer biz for as long as they have and they're still trying to change the game.

    Can't wait to try it...

If I went to a restaurant and their food tasted like something I loved at home as a kid, I'd use "reminds me" as a ringing endorsement. Or if I had a new coffee stout that "reminded me" of my current favorite, that would be great news. Not sure why you see this as negative.

And just when the Celebration was running out---BOO YAAH!!!

    Again--two thumbs up for Grossman.

Now hurry that hop oil to NC so Mills River can crank it out!!!!

I didn't say it was negative, only that "reminds me" does not seem to me to be quite the same as "as good as". Things can "remind me" of home, but that doesn't mean they are home.

I applaud the innovation of SN, though.

I can honestly say we've done more Pilot brewing and research on this beer than any other in my tenure at Sierra Nevada. This is one damn hoppy beer. I'm so excited for this to hit market, I can hardly stand it. I have some in my office as-we-speak waiting to come home with me this weekend. Happy New Year indeed!

Just because of the potency and other variables that come along with such an innovative previously unknown entity like this?

    Brewing this at Mills River?

How does this one hold up?

The article sort of alluded to it, but I assume it's going to be year round availability? It sounds delicious....if it's anything like Founders Harvest Ale, then bring it on!!!

Yes. We're handling hops in a different way than we ever have before and working with the hop oil has been a steep learning curve. Even after nearly 35 years of brewing, there's still so much to learn!

The initial release will be brewed in Chico (Mills River has been brewing the bulk of the lagers--Nooner and Beer Camp Hoppy Lager) but we'll take it up here within a month or so.

Hold up like how? Shelf stability? It's still primarily hopped with traditional hops so on that end, it will age like any of our other beers, so pretty damn good. We think the oil will have very good stability, but honestly, we don't know yet.

It is scheduled to start hitting shelves in early February (the official release date is 2/2/15) Thsi WILL be a year-round beer. Nooner and Hop Hunter will be the first new additions to our year-round lineup since 2009 (Torpedo and Kellerweis)

Not at the moment, but you never know. Right now, we're just trying to get it out the door! We haven't even done the first real packaging of this yet.

I'm not the biggest SN fan, but this looks interesting and I will have to seek it out.

As a FH beer fan, this is huge news. Curious which varieties were used.
