Wanted to stop messing up the Austin thread.

Charles at the Shell station in Friendswood told me he is expecting some this Wednesday or Thursday. He mentioned Sculpin and hopefully Victory at Sea. Should mean other places will be getting it around town very soon.

Yeah I asked Specs in Pearland and Seabrook today about both of these while I was hunting for the Hellfighter. They searched the computer and it was 0 inventory across the board. They had no idea of it coming in. The people that work at the Specs I go to have no interest in keeping up with all of it. It kinda pisses me off.

I live in the same basic area... and yes... they don't really keep up with things beer wise.

A fellow beer lover on another forum, who is from Austin, just posted a shot of Lagunitas Sucks, Victory At Sea and Sculpin he just picked up and all are fresh.

    brewed or bottled?

if it was brewed four days ago i doubt that it's something you'd want to drink, if i was already in bottles and shipped to you ;)

This is all really good news. I wasn't expecting Ballast Point in Houston this early in the year. Definitely going to have to keep my eyes open for it.

Same here. Someone on here also mentioned we are getting Firestone-Walker as well.

I did see the mention of Firestone Walker in another thread. It looks like 2013 is going to be pretty awesome for craft beer.

    Do want Victory at Sea.

Wish my local Specs had it. That'd be my beer of the night!

Hmmm.. now I'm wondering if it's worth driving down all the way from downtown for these.

VaS is really good. Sclupin is worth a try, but I wouldn't drive that far myself.

From what I hear, if you have time to hit Nobi, it's probably worth it.

The Sammich shop is right next door to the Shell... and you can take your beers into the shop to drink while you eat.. though they probably won't have any of these cold...

Down South at the Shell Station.

This place amazes me. They got Pontificator 1 day after bottled and nobody else has it!

Does this mean you guys will finally stop bitching about Dallas only having it? I guess until we get Firestone Walker anyway... :)

Nah... we'll complain about other stuff.

It's human nature. DFW complains about stuff too.

I love this place. The owners are really awesome guys and really know their stuff. The Shell Station and Nobi public house are definitively huge perks of living in Clear Lake. The downside is the traffic.

Upon your and others' recommendations, I made the drive down to this Shell Station. I was really impressed with this place. It was like a mini D&Q but they had stuff I hadn't seen before, besides the Ballast Point beers and Pontificator. I spoke with the owner and he convinced me to check out Nobi Public House. Rather than drive home in rush hour traffic I decided to stop in for one beer as it was just down the street. I ended up drinking:
    • Ballast Point Sculpin
    • Real Ale Scots Gone Wild
    • Real Ale BBA 15th Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout
    • Deschutes Black Butte XXIV
Those beers plus a half growler of the Real Ale BBA 15 plus bombers of Ballast Point Sculpin and Victory at Sea really made for a worthwhile trip.

That sounds like an awesome trip!

Side note... I drove by that Shell station about a million times before joining BA and finding out it was a beer mecca...

What did that Victory at Sea run you? I'm almost tempted to make the drive down there.

I don't remember, sorry. Give them a call and ask. You should probably call anyway to make sure they still have some before you drive down.

  31. Don't know how much it is where you are getting it, but I grabbed it at Whole Foods in Austin for 9.99 I Believe.

Honestly, if it is selling for $9.99 at Spec's and for $11.99 at the Shell station I really don't mind paying the little extra to support the local guys. Go visit Nobi Pub or the Shell station and talk to the owners and you will see why I say this.

I would if it was closer. I live in the woodlands, so that Shell is like 60-75 minutes from my house. Whereas specs is only 30.

  39. Texas_Speed

    Texas_Speed Savant (325) Texas Aug 22, 2012

Yeah, I left that part out. If I lived in the Woodlands I wouldn't make that drive either just to support the local shop. But, as it is now, I live maybe 5-10 minutes from the Shell station.

I totally agree with this. Love to support local shops when I can.

That said, I'm not sure if I like BP enough to support them that much. lol

I'm sure I'll buy up some V@S, just not Sculpin. I would like to try Dorado (the DIPA).
