Baudoinia: The next BCS variant

    I'm fine with the content of the video, the information was delivered. I just had a hard time watching that video of him closing his eyes while talking. All the other Fulton & Wood videos were very well done.

    Assuming this is similar to other F&W releases in terms of quantity (which is, yes, quite the assumption and probably not the case, now that I think about it), it should be spread fairly wide across the city. But given it's a BCS variant (toss another presto log into the Hype Train), it will probably not last nearly as long as other F&W releases.

    Yeah, should be landing at the usual suspects next week. I know I've seen the other ones at Small Bar and Map Room, think I've also seen one at Revolution and maybe the Gingerman. I don't know if this will be as widespread, nor do I know if bars will just tap them like the other beers or if they will make events out of it since this is a BCBS variant.

    My first pour was not at all what I expected. Super hoppy and a lot like night stalker, had a second and it seems like the first was a product of the lines not being cleared. Must have had an IPA on previous. When not mixed with random IPA this is a great beer.

    Anybody going to Wild Monk in LaGrange? There is a GI tap takeover Wednesday and Baudoinia will be there.

    I've said too much already. :D But it's not like I'll be there either. It's invitation-only, probably the inner circle of Chicago craft beer folks, or at least the ones close to GI. They've done one of these for each Fulton & Wood release. I imagine pics will be up on facebook this week.

    Anyone who has this at Blues Bar, please let me know if you're sure it's Baudionia vs. standard BCS. I had it last night and it tasted like the latter, though the manager was adamant that they hadn't mixed up their kegs. Having had them side by side at Monk's, I feel confident enough to raise the question (and willing to risk the embarrassment if I'm wrong.)

    I was excited when I saw this as I live right by Blues. My excitement deflated when I saw they priced it out at $11 for 10 oz.

    Having said that I'll still check it out. I had Baudoinia last night at the Wild Monk one year anniversary party side by side with regular BCBS and they are distinctly different.

    It's actually $12 for 10 oz, which I also pointed out to their beer guy. The response was "sorry it's $12". They wouldn't honor the beermenus price even after I showed it to them on my phone. I agree that Baudoinia is noticeably different. BCS has a lot of heat and a bit of astringency (I think that's the word. It kind of puckers my cheeks a bit without being sour) which is what I got last night. My pours of Baud have been more purely sweet without those two qualities.

    FWIW I'm having Baudoinia right now. It tastes sweeter than what I had last night but I'm less than 100% convinced that my memory & palate are foolproof here. So I eagerly await any feedback from fellow NW burbanites.

    I had it tonight with at Blues Bar, and I am almost sure it is Baudoinia. As Vav said it tastes like a fudgier BCS, and i agree. It had a smooth chocolate fudge taste that was creamier, less harsh/hot on the bourbon than regular bcs.

    I agree. I'm back at Blues Bar and convinced that I'm having the same beer I had in Highwood, both of which I believe to be Baudoinia. I'm going to stubbornly refuse to change my check-ins for last night, due to my certainty at the time, but apologize to Blues Bar for the implication of false advertising based on only my gut and comparatively unrefined palate. I will say that BCS is already my favorite beer, and Baudoinia is merely a marginal improvement. (See: vanilla, rare?)

    i was pretty hammered last night and wound up posting my review in a thread in some other forum, but this is a dead on description. the bartenders were dolloping vanilla ice cream into some patrons' glasses, and i was tempted to give it a shot but i didn't feel like having a third pour.

    Pouring at Acre in Andersonville ($8/10oz.). It's been on since Thursday night so it's likely to kick really soon. Plenty of other big stouts/dark beers, though, if you miss out on the fungus beer. I think their BeerMenus page is still pretty accurate, despite last being updated on the 20th.

    So Heaven on Seven in Naperville has it on tap at $7 a glass. Pretty good price. But when we said we wanted 5 glasses, the waiter said how about a pitcher for $25? $25 for a freakin pitcher of a bourbon county variant. Incredible. I recommend getting over there and getting some.
