Alberta Best places to pick up single bottles in Calgary, Vancouver, & Victoria

Discussion in 'Canada' started by MilwaukeeCrusher, Apr 23, 2013.

  1. I don't know if anyone is allowed in Canada to break six packs, but I like to try as much as I can and keep expenses down. Also wondering if Half Pints makes it out that far west. Thanks.

I don't know if you can break six packs, but many bottle shop sell singles.
  3. Can't break up sixers, but plenty of single 650 and 750s around as well as various smaller singles.

In Calgary Zyn and Oak and Vine sells singles.
  5. In Victoria: The Strath and Hillside liquor stores both have decent selection (for the Island, at least).

There's no Half-Pints in BC but you can find some in Alberta.

I thought Half Pints was in Vancouver now. I remember Nichole Barry was out last September for the Vancouver re-launch.
  7. Yeah, looks like I was 100% wrong on that one - I checked their distro and looks like select liquor stores in Vancouver carry them. I had just assumed that they weren't in BC because I hadn't heard anything about it or noticed their stuff on the BCLDB's warehouse page.

I'm glad they're making it out further West. I was in Winnipeg for three years and they are one of the best parts of the Prairie brewing scene.
  8. Half Pints is in BC, just hard to find and not their complete range. Nicole was here for the launch, but they've since dropped off a bit. Quite the small brewery so I don't blame em. I think 2 beers are currently here.
16ST has the most single 12oz. bottles out of any shop I've seen, but it's mostly imports.

I wish we would get their seasonals. Love me some Demeters Harvest. :)
  10. I only have a select few beers from Wisconsin... I'm in Nebraska now but if anyone wanted anything from say... Colorado let me know. I will be driving through in July, so I tend to like darker and higher gravity beers (they keep longer) and often these are out of season. Hopefully many out of season I could trade for.

Happy to see I will be able to try Half Pints. I don't know when or ever I will find myself in Winnipeg.

I was going to put another in your box but you didn't seem that interested. I just had one a couple weeks ago and I preferred it fresh IMHO perhaps waiting for a new batch isn't a bad idea.

We don't break 6ers like Zyn but I promise I'll have many, many, good beers for sale at the Hamptons Co-op if you were to pay a visit.
If I were to buy beer elsewhere I go to Kingsington Wine Market, Zyn, or if I'm in the South of the City I go drop in at Willow Park. Zyn's a tickers dream busting up everything and their beer guy Patrick (patricks110 on RB) is top notch and knows his shit.

I just didn't want you to give up that gold before you could get more. If you feel bad, I think you should just send all of the bottles you have left on over. :p

  14. I'm happy to set up an in person trade. Send me a pm if interested and we can see if we can work one out.
  15. I'll post a list here in case anyone else offers. It is a pretty complete list considering I probably won't be in Canada that often which means I this is one of the few times I can try any or all of these beers. There are criterion involved:

    1. For now I'm only interested in trading for single bottles of beers on the list that I won't be able to get the first two weeks of July and are available now.
    2. I hope to get IPAs fresh as possible. If any IPAs are not available in summer, omit from list
    3. I intend to vist some breweries and hope to do some flights to cut down on expense.

I can get whatever is available Denver northward to Alberta. Use seekabrew.com and build a list.

  17. Finally if you have any recommendations on places to eat in Calgary, Kelowna, Kamloops, the great Vancouver area, and Victoria it would be appreciated. I found a place in Calgary that serves cariboo, but appears to be a little pricey. I seen a few poutine places as well I might consider, but I've had good in Montreal and bad in Portland, Oregon so I might be a little skiddish about that.

Not sure what a donair (is it basically a beef gyro?) is but I'm planning on trying that as well (heard often alluded to on Trailer Park Boys).
  18. That's one hell of a list! Just skimming through you'll be able to find many/lots of those on the shelf yr round. I don't recommend going out of your way for Okanagan Springs, BigRock, and Pacific Western...
  19. Yeah, I tend to dive in instead of just sticking a toe in the water. I have a tasting group and I thought we could do a few tours of western Canada. Hopefully duty fees aren't so harsh.
  20. Metro Liquor Store (http://www.metroliquor.com/) has a decent selection that is just single bottle , they provide the 6pack and a 5% discount if you purchase either a 330 ml or 650 ml mix ,
and yes I've seen Half Pints here in Victoria on Vancouver Island , rare thou

Alberta moves too fast! Sure at any good store you will fill a basket of goodies of stuff. There were 40 new beers in Alberta in just the last to weeks according to the catalogue. Zyn still has Westvleterens if that is your thing.
