Brewhaha: Mississippi's First Homebrew Store

Discussion in 'South' started by robmoak, Jan 3, 2013.

  1. Mississippi continues its momentum to become a more beer-freindly state by opening its first homebrew store. Brewhaha is located off I-55 in the Lefleur's Gallery Shopping Center. I stopped by today and was impressed by their selection. There are beer, wine and cheese making supplies; and the owner was quite knowledgable. He has a Facebook and Twitter account, and there's a website on the way. Great news for a growing movement.

I thought it was still illegal in MS to homebrew, just like Alabama?
  4. Homebrewing is illegal in Mississippi on a state level, although I've never heard of it being enforced. Brew-stores are in a legal gray area, though. Grains, hops and yeast are all legal to buy separately; it's the mixing them together and fermenting the sugars to alcohol that is illegal. Homebrewing is legal on a federal level though, thanks to Jimmy Carter.

That stuff in AL where the law forced a shop to get rid of their homebrewing supplies was just crazy...I thought of that story when I saw this post
  6. Yeah, I heard about that. Not sure what the details were. I can't believe anyone would shut down a legitimate successful business in this climate. We need all the jobs we can get. Let's just hope that we reverse the backwards legislation soon.
