Checking in on the possible date. I'd think 10/24/15 but with the new brewery, location still up in the air...? Anyone have any idea?

I heard they are making DB Darkness this year.

Previously I had heard it has to remain in the old location due to fun municipal laws. Brooklyn Center has municipal liquor stores, so on Darkness day the city sets up a liquor store at Surly and sells the beer for Surly. Minneapolis doesn't do that.

Could it be that the stars have aligned and it'll fall right on halloween?

Last time darkness would've fallen on Halloween, 2009, it was instead on the 24th

Darkness is one of the rare beers that suffers when it is aged

I completely disagree. Are we allowed to do that?

    Aged or barrel aged?

I think you have to purchase credits to disagree. Kind of like an in app purchase.

Did a 5 year vertical of Darkness a few weeks back. The '10 and the '14 were voted the favorites among me and my friends. *shrug*

I just haven't had a great barrel aged beer from surly
8 was good but not great and I think their best work they have done so far with a barrel

As long as you have the decency to be insulted by it, yes.

I also thought BA Darkness was inferior to regular Darkness by a fairly wide margin.

I would say that despite Surly being around for quite a while as 'newer' breweries go, their barrel program is still in its infancy. By my count (other than one barrel/one keg here or there) all they've released that's been barrel-aged are:

    - Five (which is still getting better as it ages)
    - Eight (soooo dull)
    - Pentagram
    - 2014 Darkness

So that makes for four widely released barrel-aged beers since 2006 when they opened? Chances are you haven't had much in the way of barrel-aged beers from Surly, & I think it's fair to say they're still learning. Though to judge 2014 Darkness by my taste buds, they're close to mastering it.

I agree. I love Regular Darkness and prefer it to just about any other non barrel aged imperial stout. I really like BA Darkness but in comparison to other BA beers out there, I prefer a lot of the others (CW anny brews, BA Silhouette, even the regular bcbs).

Wasn't Syx Aged somehow. Thought there was wood in it. Maybe aged on Oak. That is getting better too I thought.

They put Syx in white wine barrels but was very limited on tap.

Syx was aged on "honeycombs" of various types of virgin wood.
