Our tasting group had 08 and 10 next to each other a few moths ago and they were pretty substantially different. The 10 was more aggressive and acidic while the 08 was much more mellow and fruity. Still sour, but better rounded. I wouldn't put the two in the realm of identical.

I completely disagree with all points of this statement. 08 & 10 had different recipes= different beers. 10 fresh was sweet and had lots of cherries and had only but a modicum of funk and next to no sour. Flash forward a year and it had dried out, was gaining in sour, and thinning out in body. The wild bacteria in the unpastuerized beer had completely changed the beer.

Source: drinking 08 fresh, at two years, and at four years next to a 10; drinking 10 fresh, one year, and two years, and having a growler of it off of a keg stored at 33* since its original release, and having a 22oz of 10 right next to it that was stored for 2 years at cellar temps (45-65*) earlier this year (2012).
  3. I had '10 a bunch of times in bottle shortly after the release and it was nothing but nasty phenols/brett flavors with a thin body. Not very much sweetness but a lot of straight alcohol.

Does anyone know if this will be making its way to Texas?

If it's anything like the last couple Abyss and BBXX releases they'll give themselves a few days of exclusivity before they send it to their distributors. I'd expect it to hit stores the middle of the week following their release party.

Ya, I could see that but I have a high tolerance for phenols and dissonant flavors. There was some thinness to the body initially, but it was noticeably sweeter at release than nowadays. Dang, Imma going to have to open one this weekend and see how she is doing.

Can anyone confirm if they are serving it on tap as well?

I just called the pub and was told that it's on tap, and that the bottles are going fast.

I was thinking the same thing. I asked if there would still be bottles there at 6pm, and she said something to the effect of, "I wish I could say yes, but if we get another rush like we had this morning then there's a good chance we'll run out." I was planning on popping in after the Beirut show at Pioneer Square, but I might have to hit them up first and try to figure out how to lug around a bunch of bottles while I'm at the show. For that matter, I'm not sure they'll let me into the event with a backpack full of booze. This is becoming more complicated by the minute.
  16. Just left after having lunch and a few glasses of Dissident. Great beer, but never had it before so can't make comparisons to previous years.

Are the Teku glasses new to Deschutes? First time I had seen them.

2012's The Dissident was much tastier than 2010. All three of the special menu items were also quite tasty (particularly Jill Ramseier's tiramisu).

They're serving The Dissident it in new Deschutes branded Rastal Teku glasses. The pour line appears to be the top of the Deschutes Brewery lettering, which is just about the same 300 milliliter pour as in the Rastal L├╝ttich glass they've been using for high ABV beers for the last few years. Available for $7.50.

~ 8oz pour in a Teku glass for $7.50. Bottles are $15 (limit 3), as previously stated. The ABV of this batch came out at 11.4%, per the label.

Gong fast? I swung by around 12:30 and was the only person there buying it.

+1. Stopped by at 3 and there were plenty of bottles left. Teku glasses are new. Got 2!

That's reassuring. Were you able to gauge their supply, or was it stashed out of view?

Deschutes exemplifies how you can grow large and still do things right.
Won't be back in PDX for a while hope to see some in Seattle area soon.

I heard big box stores (i.e. Fred Meyer, Safeway) won't be getting any, and I also heard Belmont will only be getting 2 cases. My source is a friend who called Deschutes and asked. That's all I know.

Wow, wondering if it'll make it up here to WA. Has every other year so didn't get any from the Portland release...ah well.

My Deschutes rep in Spokane, WA told me that they were getting 30 (35?) cases. Should be here in a week or so.

I'm wondering the same. I'll be in town for a brief trip over the weekend and would really like to pick up a couple of bottles. I was hoping 99 bottles would receive some by this weekend, assuming any comes into the area.
  40. That sounds like a lot, considering the low production. I don't have figures, but still.
