Well damn! ...now I feel bad. But seriously, maybe you wouldn't get questioned so much if you didn't make so many "questionable" statements. The first instance was me asking where you got the "two batches only" info. Sorry if it came across as calling you out, but I was honestly just trying to get the story straight. Maybe you were right(although, as it turns out you weren't ;)), I was just trying to get facts myself.

This has nothing to do with any gender issues... I promise. You have boobs... YAY for you. I would've questioned those statements if you were a dude... probably more. ;) And no one thinks you're an idiot. Relax sister, we're all here for the same reason... a little beer knowledge. There's only a few on this board who generally "know it all"(they know who they are, heh)... and I'm far from being one of them, lol!

    Cheers!

I never said there WOULD only be two batches, I did make it clear that I read it somewhere. What is questionable about that? Before a release I always get worked up worrying I won't get any. I often miss out due to lack of availability as far north as I am and inability to come into Houston on release days at the right hour of day. The only thing I ever really get worked up over is Houston distribution/lack thereof. I can promise you are reading extra context in too, I am far from upset over any of this. It is all good in the neighborhood.

No, you are mistaken, it was the Blue Moon spring release sitting NEXT to the Leinenkugel's. Or some other Spring release of some other "craft beer".

Exactly, as a homebrewer and someone generally interested in the science behind beer, I was just wondering if there was some article that you could point me to so that I could continue to increase my beer/ brewing knowledge. I was in no way trying to call you out, just curious about this topic from a scientific stand point.

    BJCP Style Guidelines

    for Imperial IPA

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium-light to medium body. No harsh hop-derived astringency, although moderate to medium-high carbonation can combine to render an overall dry sensation in the presence of malt sweetness. Smooth alcohol warming.

Someone also crapped on my reddit picture post last week (who knows could be the same idiot): http://www.reddit.com/r/beerporn/comments/qdt9s/new_world_class_dipa_has_hit_the_streets/

Ok maybe I was a little overzealous with the thread title, but Endeavour is damn good especially that fresh. I didn't realize that there were huge St. Arnold haters. Most of their year-round line up is pretty average, but they are doing great stuff with their seasonals, DR series, Pumpkinator, and now Endeavour. Top 3 TX brewery for sure. I have only lived in houston for like a year and a half so don't call me a homer.

One reason I'm here is to learn new things, so when I asked where you'd heard your information I wanted to find out more. I pointed out the fact that I knew my post would sound snarky, but stated that in hopes I could convey that wasn't my message. I was intentionally trying to NOT call you out, and get more information.

Sounds like the real message here though is that storing beer too cold (assuming it doesn't freeze) will not change the flavor, but serving it too cold certainly will mute what our palate is able to pick up. If I'm off base, let me know how I may have misinterpreted. Thanks for clearing it up!

    Cheers,
    Chad

You are spot on to the last statement I have made, yes. I do still feel some IPAs aren't meant for immediate consumption(not the average one either), and are intended to have some growth. Breweries are often pushed to release beers quicker than the beer is ready, we see it all the time with big stouts with best after dates. I am not talking about aging these beers of course, just giving them more space between steps of the consumer process of beer, and only with the unfiltered or bottle conditioned species. A lot of this can be taken as opinion as we all have them on how we like our beer. I like to find the front, middle, and back of an IPA, which any good one should have; balance. IMO that is when it is optimal to drink. I strongly recognize that as my own opinion/preference. I really enjoy when the brewer provides us with info on their intentions with a beer, it makes it so much easier to judge if it was executed well or not.

I am waaaay off where I started, enough time has passed I don't even know my original point. I don't even know why I got onto this now as this doesn't apply to DR11 OR Endeavor. I think I may have crisscrossed conversations too.

I must say I am guilty of passing on what I "heard somewhere" as far as the two batch thing was concerned. I know it was a somewhat reputable beer related web-site, but still speculation.

I don't think any particular style has any one way it should be. We are all too different in what we like. Fortunately, the world of beer is as diverse as we are.

^^^ Agreed. To be honest, I was a lot more impressed with the 6-7 month old DR11 I tried (never had it fresh) than I was with fresh Endeavor. It just didn't do much for me. Maybe I'll age one and see what happens.

  17. LadyOfMuchBeer

    LadyOfMuchBeer Savant (380) Texas Apr 30, 2011

To justify aging, drink it side by side with a future batch to compare. It always feels less silly holding onto IPAs for that purpose.

I'll preface this by saying that I've yet to try a single drop of Endeavor... but I have more respect for that guy's review than the one's that are giving SA's version of this style 5's on taste. Seriously? They're saying that this beer is in the same league as the best IIPA's in the world? The same ballpark as the Pliny's, Heady Topper, Hopslam and Citra's? Seriously...?

I've had all mentioned above, and if this beer tastes ANYTHING like those... I'll eat my shoe.

I'm surprised y'all aren't giving me a hard time. Guess my initial statement in response to that review was overly aggressive which probably makes me an ass. However, I don't agree with half of the review slamming the beer for lack of body when that's pretty much how the style is supposed to be.

I am just guessing the people who rate it so high haven't had many of the great IIPAs out there. OR, maybe they are employees of Saint Arnold itself.

That is crap. I have not rated it yet, but I think it is great, and every bit as good a DR 11 if not better. SA hit this out of the park. I can also tell you that nobody from SA hypes up releases or gives false reviews. Maybe the so called SA Army, but I know nobody from the company does that at all.

Yeah, if it had huge body, wouldn't that make it an American Barleywine? If it's not a IIPA at 8.9% ABV and 76 IBU, I wonder what he'd classify it being closer to.

I'll also go ahead and guess that the crowd of Endeavour lovers overlaps pretty darned well with the crowd of Lagunitas Sucks lovers.

I actually did a side by side with DR 11, heady topper, pliny, dreadnaught and zombie dust (apa) with similar dates on all of them. I thought the DR 11 was every bit as good as the others. Maybe the national hype of pliny just didn't taste as good as the local hype of the divine. I have yet to try the Endeavour. I'm willing to bet that if St Arnold's put Pliny in a bottle and called it DR 12 there would still be people in this forum that would bash it because it is a St A's product.

I was joking!! It is a current joke as it always seems the first handful of reviews on many brews are all high rated. What I believe to be true is that it is the biggest fans of the beers that rush to try it and rate it first, not employees. It happens consistently. I knew someone would take me seriously. It is my karma for taking everyone too seriously last night.

The only real input I have had on this thread was on the pre-release hype, and my thoughts on DR11. I know nothing of Endeavor besides three facts.

    1. It is a re-release of a recipe I have tasted on many occassions.
    2. It seems to have mixed reactions, many love, many say it is so-so.
    3. The reviews seem very one-sided for such a mixed reaction.

If people want their opinion on the record, they should review more beers!....I myself am chilling one now, will certainly post a review when I drink it...should be tomorrow night.

I'm not getting the comparisons to Lagunitas Sucks. While I was hoping Endeavor would be close to a Pliny clone or other West Coast style DIPA, it is not quite as forward with the tropical / grapefruit aroma or taste. Its there, but it's more balanced with a spicy hopness and some earthiness. Picking up some herbal/onion notes, also. It is it's own unique style of DIPA, and a pretty complex one at that. My initial slight disappointment has given way to realizing that we now have a high quality year round DIPA that stands on its own merits. I am liking it more and more with each tasting. Cheers!

Agreed...I had a Heady Topper, Hopslam and an Endeavor last night. Endeavor just isn't on the same level as the "elite" IIPA's out there. I wanted to love it but ended up only liking it. I would buy it again if the mood struck me but for my tastes, I would never put it in the same category as Pliny, Heady, Hopslam etc....
