Expensive Goose Island Bottle

I stopped in to my local store today to get an update on the Cherry Rye/Coffee situation and I was told that they weren't sure about those but that they were expecting to get a bottle from Goose Island soon. He said it was going to be about $170 for the bottle and they were only getting one. He didn't seem terribly informed but it did get me intrigued. It is hard to imagine a $170 bottle of beer. Any of you guys heard anything about this?

Are you sure he wasn't confusing it with SA Utopias?

That's a great price for Utopias!

That is the first thing I thought of but he assured me it was Goose Island. He thought it started with an E. I think he has no idea what he is talking about.

It would be a good deal, but not out of the question as it is sold to retailers for as low as $160. The retailer could have even been talking about how much he was going to be charged for it.

It's the new beer called ERAR. It's even packed in the box upside down.

It's amazing to me the amount of people that work at a liquor store and know not thing-one about their product.

But, I imagine in a lot of cases it's a low-paying job, so maybe that explains it. As a wee lad growing up I generally didn't care either when I was making minimum wage.

My immediate thought is it must be a GI/FFF/Mikkeller collab. One bottle per store, then later one case per store, then after that probably one pallet per store. Likely a ticketed event somewhere in there also.

Ha, I try to make it out of the store before I get too sauced. It can be a struggle. I can't speak for him though.

It must be Utopias. I can't say I didn't have a brief daydream of some massive 3L bottle of Rare though.

If I were capable of experiencing joy, this thread would give me some. Alas, I am like most beer advocates and am here to win trades, get whalez, and make fun of others.

To be fair I am actually only here to make fun of others. Ironically I like to lose trades. Whalez are fun but honestly most of them leave me feeling like I do when I pay good money for a hooker but drank too much and have a wicked case of whiskey dick.
