Curmudgeon's Better Half. Still seems a bit hot. Maple is ever so slightly present and bourbon is still strong.

So this being 1/1/13, I guess technically this would be my first beer of the year. One of these bad boys left.Seems like a good beer to start the year with.

My girl and I toasted at midnight with a bottle of Westvleteren XII.

It was freshish...trade from a brick...and I liked it more than any other quad I've had...we're gonna open the other one on or after the date stamp...can't wait.

I am really enjoying an Epic Brewing Barleywine (Batch 1, Sept 2010). Nice sweet malt and subtle barrel character with some dried fruit and hops on the nose. Been hanging onto it for a while and figured now was as good a time as any. Happy New Year!

  26. Duclaw Sweet Baby Jesus...enjoyed my PB&J sandwich I ate minutes later a good bit more, but it's a new year. Looking forward to a lot of new beers. Happy New Year.

I cracked a growler of Alpine Nelson.

If this is how the rest of 2013 will go, I will be a happy man.

    Live long and drink Alpine,

I had intended to open one with my girl on NYE...but circumstances pointed things in a different direction...and I won't drink anything that special without her...so I guess both bottles will be seeing a bit of cellar time...looking forward to it.

The one I cracked was my third 2012...as well as my third ever...and my girl hated it lol...too hot for her...got five left...hoping age tones it down so we can both enjoy it.

  39. Drinking didn't go as planned, so instead of ending 2012 with a bottle, I started 2013 off with it. Popped my first Abyss ever. Was a 2012 vintage. I was iffy on it at first, but once the vanilla and cherry started pushing past the ashy oak on my palate, it was love. It's gonna be a good year.

Been wanting to try this one for awhile. Surprised at how much heat it's still packing.
