Last year they threw everything up at the beginning. (Rock me like a maple cane, rye aged rye stout, blackwoods bastard, party stout, BA Berserker, BA Black IPA, etc.)

Bahahahahah. Typical. Can't wait for the meltdown when they don't release CBS.

Got it. So clearly, since they didn't do that this year, you aren't going to get your precious CBS at all today.

Won't really melt down if CBS doesn't make an appearance. I'm sure they just switched the way they update their website from last year. Just saying that they had at least 5 Class-3s on tap and 4-5 all black Class-1s.

Just confirmed with staff that the Panther Cub is maple BA porter. And it is gooood.

Sitting at the bar, I'm seeing the following tap handles:

    Rye Stout
    Raspberry Oatmeal Stout
    Belfast Car Bomb

There are others I can't make out from my vantage point.

How does the BA Frangelic compare to the regular? Personally, I found the regular Frangelic very polarizing.

Here's what I've got going on so far:

Panther Cub. Like I said before, superb stuff. Not quite up to the level of CBS, but don't pass this up if you're here and it's still on tap.

    From left to right:

Barrel aged Black IPA - Not too much barrel characteristic here. It's mostly hops, which I find surprising, because with Doom, there was no doubt to it being aged in bourbon barrels.

Barrel aged Party Stout - Definite barrel presence here. Almost tastes like KBS minus the coffee and chocolate. Maybe this is the base beer for it?

Barrel aged Frangelic Stout on nitro - Like the Black IPA, I couldn't get much barrel presence here. Rich and creamy, sure, but not much else going on. Still really good.

Razzleberry Stout - Probably my favorite out of the four, but that's because I'm a raspberry whore. Massive raspberries up front with roasty finish. Great stuff.

  25. See you around 3:30!

So disappointed I won't be able to make it there now. Planned to be up there by now, but because of all the flooding here in IL (NW suburbs of Chicago), we had to cancel our plans.

reading this definitely isn't helping ease my pain :(

I missed out on this because I'm stupid and can't order fast enough, but yes, I heard from staff that this was a 50/50 blend of 2013 KBS and two year aged KBS. 15%. Goddammit.

Heard someone say it was KBS aged for 3 years in pappy. Do they not have a description sheet?

  36. mjshearer1

    mjshearer1 Advocate (540) Michigan Dec 16, 2011

They don't. If it goes on tap again like GRDave said, I'll be sure to ask for concrete specifics, but from what I heard from staff, it was just longer aged KBS blended with regular KBS. I don't think we're talking about Founders' version of Rare here.

Panther Cub needs to warm up a bit. Enjoying it more with about 30 minutes on it. BA Frangelic Stout is just ok. No real bourbon notes. Don't think I could tell the difference between the regular and BA version.
