I agree...the owner of a shop I frequent asked if I wanted to purchase cases of it. I picked up a 4-pack, but may go back for more later.
  2. just got a 4 pack for 11 bucks at spirit house in Amherst. they didn't have it entered in to the system yet so they guessed a price. looks like I came out the winner :)

  3. You're gonna get some grief for this post I think.
  4. He shouldn't. Clearly the stores fault for guessing the price. It takes only a few minutes to look it up or call the distributor to get their cost.

  5. Maybe, maybe not but unless this is your first time on the site you know how these kinds of comments go. I would have said something most likely but that's just because I'm a hell of a guy ;)
  6. I know how people react on here about this particular issue, and I never understood why. I've worked retail my whole life, and the first thing you do when you get a shipment is unpack and price it. If you incorrectly priced something, and a customer pointed it out you generally let them have it for the price you marked it as, and then go back and fix it. A lot retailers will let you have it at the reduced price they accidentally marked it as a thank you for pointing out mistake. A lot of grocery stores will let you get items for reduced prices or for free if you find mistakes like these. They reward customers for pointing out their ignorance.

It seems like this BA pointed out nothing to the shop owner, and yet was fully aware of the error (which was probably at least 50% off).
  8. that is actually not the case at all. I have never had the pleasure of purchasing bcs before and was entirely unaware of what it was supposed to retail at. it wasn't until I looked it up on my ride home that I realized it was supposed to be far more. should I have gone back to the store?
  9. I would have bought their entire supply at $11. If they are going to mislabel something, that is their fault.

Last year I found Hel & Verdomenis at a place in Rhode Island that was selling it for $5.50 a bottle (usually goes for $10 a bottle). I bought their entire supply.

  10. the problem was that they hadnt even labeled it yet. it wasn't in the system and the clerk asked the manager what to
charge me. I was going to buy it regardless of the price. I don't know why homeboy norton needs to make me feel like such a dickhead. as far as I'm concerned the store is the "specialist" - I'm just the consumer - they should know their product and what
    it should be priced at.

  11. I don't think jnorton was calling you out. He was just pointing out that some people on here are really sensitive about this issue. You are in the right here in my opinion. The manager was the one who set the price and it is his responsibility to get it right, not yours.

If dumpstation honestly did not know about BCBS pricing, then no one is calling her out. If someone does know there is a mistake and says nothing, I think it's a very unethical thing to do, and that person should be called out. Maybe a store is sloppy in its operations, but it just takes a bit of decency to point it out to them. This isn't a competition between adversaries where the rules of the game encourage exploiting the errors of an opponent. It's a store providing goods to all of us, run by people who make mistakes like all of us. Taking advantage of another is zero sum. People should keep that in mind for when they're not the on the right side of that balance.
  13. thanks bobcobb . I honestly had no clue what the price point was. I didn't even realize how lucky I was to be coming across it. I don't claim to know everything about beer. I just know what I like. and I knew last night when I saw it i knew it was something I should buy based on what I had read on here. if I had known the retail price I would have offered that and paid it. I pay 12 bux for 4 packs of HT all the time. that's a pretty high class beer so to be charged 11 for something else that's highly touted i Thot that was a reasonable price. anyways. now I know.
  14. Well, dumpstation, you don't get thanks from me - not because i expected you to know the price (after all, it's not like you read BA forums, where the usual price among other things has been talked about for months), but because I shop at that store, too, and now something else I might want is likely to get bumped up at some point so the year's bottom line stays the same. Most likely, they'll just add $2 a 4-pack to the price of the rest of their allocation, and the rest of the people who buy BCBS there will buy it anyway and carry your load. Raise a glass to them.

Wait what day is today .... Something about being even a little thankful or am I completely off here? Some of you guys are absolutely ruthless and all for WHAT?!? BEER?! A commodity which is available in abundance everywhere? The benefit of the doubt isn't even considered towards the individual, a fellow advocate, under attack here ... What sense does this make??? My god, for your own sanity consider your priorities ...
  18. wowwwww slangtruth. I'm sorry - I don't spend my time on this website researching prices. i utterly appoligize for not being conscious of what bcs goes for retail.

please - whoever runs this site - ban me and remove me now . I don't dare be allowed to post on here for not being aware of a 10 $ descrepancy bw what I was charged for something and what I should have been charged. off me now. please.

I wouldn't give a second thought to anyone giving you grief. You asked for a price and were given one. For all the hand wringing about pricing, you'd at least think the rabble would be happy you got a deal. Unless it's just envy that you got it easily and cheap. Nah...can't be that.

BobCobb Savant (415) Illinois Jul 10, 2012 Verified

Most would agree that in no way does she deserve grief if she was unaware of the pricing at the time.

But I do take issue with the notion that any criticism (if she had been aware) must be borne out of envy. My fiancee purchased a 4-pack in Chicago for around $20. She went back the next night to pick up three more. The cashier couldn't find it in the system, so my fiancee noted she believed it was $20. Even then, the cashier asked "oh, for all three?" My fiancee corrected him and paid the $60. Others have had opportunities like this. The criticism is based on principle, not jealousy.

Also, a "deal" implies a two-way transaction, agreed upon by both parties. You only get there in these cases if you can ignore the fact that the retailer would never have agreed to it in the absence of the information asymmetry here.

Of course. If someone is purposely trying to deceive a cashier, that's poor form. But that's not what happened here and, thus, not what I was reacting too.

The Bud rep and merchandiser who came into Blanchards Allston today claimed ignorance and we didn't get any yet, so who knows for Boston proper.

  28. Probably wishful thinking here but how about coffee / cherry? Any sightings on that front?

Those are just hitting shelves in the Chicago area now, so I'd say pretty unlikely.

If anyone in MA has an extra bottle to spare, I am looking for one to bring to Belgium, but I need it by next Wednesday (11/28/12). Thanks.
  31. Yankee Spirits in Attleboro is down to three four packs. I couldnt resist, so I got another one.

The guy behind the counter said they had 10 cases and sold right through them in one week. Thats pretty good considering they are selling them for $25 each.

Where is the counter? Is it near the beer?
  37. No. When you walk in the store head to the right (behind the registers). There is a little area that they keep things in the back. As an alternative, you can always go to a register and have them bring you one.
