For most of December the site has experienced a good amount of lag, slowness, and service interruptions. This is due to hitting a threshold on our current web server. Although I've managed to stabilize the server (for the most part), there's still a noticeable lag and reports of sporadic connection issues during peak times and traffic spikes. It's frustrating for everyone. In a nutshell: Our current server configuration can't handle the near 3 million unique visitors/tens of millions of pageviews per month, and it's time for us to get serious about hosting. New Servers This past holiday week we've been discussing a customized solution with our hosting provider. It's going be a huge upgrade from our current setup, and a more flexible one. It's also a rather huge investment on our part, however, BeerAdvocate.com and its community is the heart of everything we do. We need to keep it pumping, without any palpitations, and prepare for the future. There's currently no timeline, but it's our top priority. We actually have a call this Monday to discuss our new hosting infrastructure and specific needs, and we anticipate the project to begin immediately after the call. New BeerAdvocate.com And one of our New Year's resolutions as a company is to communicate with you—our supporters—more, so we thought it appropriate to get a head start by sharing some of the online projects planned for the upcoming year. From its back-end code to the front-end look, BeerAdvocate.com is getting a complete redesign. New tools and ways to contribute will create a more content-driven website. BeerAdvocate mobile availability will expand via Google Play Apps and Apple's App Store. We'll explore and test a public API (that's "application programming interface") to allow developers and the industry access to our data. All past and future issues of BeerAdvocate magazine will be archived online. Launch a new BeerAdvocate Store so you can get your beer geek wear on. Much of the above is already in the works, and we'll of course keep everyone updated with our progress. In the meantime, thanks for your continued support, we hope you're all having an awesome holiday season, and all the best to you and yours in the New Year! Cheers!
