The wife and I are going up to Milwaukee for 2 nights during the first week of April for short getaway, what should I plan on doing? I've visited Miller before and have no desire to do that tour again, is Lakefront cool? Any great beer bars, breweries, liquor stores, restaurants to check out?

I'm thinking about making the trek over to New Glarus on one of the days, is it worth the drive? Is there anything else to do in New Glarus besides visit the brewery?

    Any help is appreciated, cheers!

Discount Liquor on 51st & Oklahoma is a great liquor store
For bars, Burnheart's, Sugar Maple, Romans Pub, Palm Tavern are all usually pretty good

Lakefront is an awesome tour. +1 to everything stayclean said and I would add Stubby's the the bar list (good food too).

New Glarus is worth the drive just to see the property - beautiful place.

Oh yeah, depending on when you are in Milwaukee, if you go to Stubby's on Thursday night after either 9 or 10pm, all taps are $3 or so off.

I like the Milwaukee Brewing Company tour.

If you are downtown, you can visit Cafe Benelux for some Belgian beers.

I see somebody recommended Sugar Maple in the Bay View neighborhood. Next door to Sugar Maple is Cafe Centraal, which is related to the above Cafe Benelux (you may notice the link for Cafe Centraal at the bottom of the Cafe Benelux web page....)
  6. i know you said you were headed to milwaukee - but if you're already looking to hit new glarus, have you considered spending the 2 days in madison? with ale aslyum, great dane, and capital we much perfer weekends in madison over milwaukee. frank lloyd wright's taliesin is a quick drive & great tour. if staying on the SE side of madison, you can get to NG in 30 minutes. even though minhas (in nearby monroe, wi) doesn't produce noteworthy beers, their tour is fun and they have a pretty expansive beer museum.
