The question is when did Shaun get the keg to Abu Nawas?? If it was truly fresh when he sold it, it is on Abu Nawas. If not, it's on Shaun.
El Bait has not been sitting on this one. From what I understand, 2.5 months or not, it still tastes pretty darn good. If this is turning you off from the event, you should know that there are many more surprises in store than just HF.
Yep...I don't think HF will knowingly sell on old keg of beer and then ask why it was being tapped on Twitter. No blame there.
Does this in any way indicate that HF will be in Iowa on occasion?
I think it has been on tap one or two other times in the past few years, but it is a very, very rare occasion. I doubt it will be a regular occurrence in the future either, unless Frederique from Abu Nawas worked out some awesome deal somehow. That doesn't seem likely though.
FWIW, El Bait just tweeted that the Walden keg has "...been kept cold since it left the brewery, it tastes fantastic."
I can't believe they would sit on this for 2.5 months. I know its for a specific event...but its not like they don't understand the importance of serving fresh beer.
My thoughts exactly. Were they simply holding onto it for this "New England" themed weekend? If so, there are plenty of other great New England breweries to showcase and they could have tapped this while still super fresh. Dunno....not my business, but I would just do it differently. As you said, if any craft beer bar in Iowa knows the importance of freshness for some styles, it's El Bait shop.
I don't know if they were specifically holding on to it for the themed weekend or not...but seems to fit the way it was advertised over Twitter. The only other explanation would be distributor error.
Got a bottle of WoodChuck smoked apple today at Cyclone in Ames....
Finally opened my bottle of Pseudo Sue last night! One of the tastiest beers I've ever had. It would be great if they had more bottles in the Des Moines area.
Three of the four GI Sisters have hit select shelves in DSM today: Halia, Juliet and Lolita.
Love the cryptic messages being sent out today. How limited is the release...or is it even limited?
Extremely limited. Limits of 1 bottle per person. Grab them when you see them if you want one. Will be gone quick, even at the $20+ price/each.
Thanks for the tip...looks like I'll be making a trip to see Kent when I get out of work!
Got word yesterday that two new Deschutes will be in the iowa city area today one in a bomber and the other is a six pack, didn't know what they were though.
I'm guessing Chasin' freshies and hop trip... Also coralville hy vee ws still had some black butte XXV yesterday.
Oakland Road Hyvee got Chasin' Freshies and Hop Trip. Hop Trip was $10.99, didn't buy Chasin' Freshies.
Looks like the DSM usuals are getting Chasin Freshies today as well.
Ding ding. We got both in at john's today. Also got in the new Goose Island 6th Day. Whole lot of boost for your buck on that one, pretty darn good too.
I picked up a bottle of Chasin' Freshies at the 1st Ave Hy-Vee tonight. They still have a few as of 10pm tonight if anyone's interested.
Founders harvest ale finally made to the iowa city area!
I know Johncy's posted about it. Benz in CR also posted so I am guessing the HyVee's got it as well
Sigh. After all I bought from the local Hy-Vee yesterday, I really hope none of the workers recognise me. They'll think I have a problem.
Chasin' Freshies and Hop Trip out today at Oneota Coop in Decorah. Couple cases of each. Bitter Monk as well!
Picked up some Harvest Ale at Cyclone Liquors today
The Oakloand Rd HyVee folks already know me :/
They're really good at that, aren't they?
Ankeny HyVee has Harvest Ale. Selling them as singles up by the registers
Which Ankeny HyVee? The Prairie Trail HyVee in Ankeny was selling 4 packs last week. Figured they'd have been out long ago!
Not sure if anyone is interested, but Oakland Road Hyvee posted they got some of the Imperial Biscotti Break Natale - Pretty Please with A Cherry.
Oooh I wonder if that will be in Des Moines..
No Gillian in Iowa?
Nope... that's a Chicago only release. :-(
Shoot. The other 3 sisters are readily available. Found some Founders Harvest hiding at the Urbandale Hy-vee too!
I swear I saw all 4 GI sisters today at the HyVee W&S here in Cedar Falls. Could be wrong, I'll have to go back this weekend and double check for Gillian.
Could have sworn Gillian was seeing wide distro
