I don't know about others but I rarely if ever go in that thread despite really liking it....it's just too big in my opinion and to hard to catch up on and keep track of. What would be the harm in resetting it weekly or something? Would make it much more enjoyable IMO.

I just look for the red "new" tag on the top right of the posts. I don't find the large size to make it less enjoyable.

When I go to revisit it I'm about 20 pages behind most the time. I end up looking through the next few then jumping to the last one, so I get your point and like the idea of a weekly one
Although it is pretty epic how big it is....

I don't think it's as bad as the Youtube thread with all the embeds.. every time I open it, my RAM dies.

That's a valid point. When I see a thread with an interesting title, and then see its a shitload of pages long... I just say f' it and move on.

Do you realize the ungodly siren scream that would occur as a result of the death of the millions of "likes" were that thread to be deleted or reset? The magnetic shock waves would literally erase the entire internet

I agree with Hanzo. The premise of the thread generally doesn't interest me, but sometimes when I'm bored, I'll go take a look at it. Then I'm all "fuck this!" about it. One of the reasons I dislike Ratebeer is that they never trim the big threads, makes it too hard to catch up. I agree that a weekly, or even bi-weekly, reset would be a good idea.

  21. I would prefer it to be monthly like the cellar reviews thread.

If your goal is to "catch up" and read every post then what is the difference if theres a new thread every week. You still have to look at every post.

An aviation site I visit just handles it by using a cut-off point, generally around 250 replies, then starting a new thread, with the same title part 2. Like "Latest Haul pt2". http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/

And more specifically, like this thread, which is up to Pt 7: http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/5668300/

That way, anyone who wants to read the whole thing can just follow the links to the beginning, or if you keep up with it, you just jump in where you left off.

I guess I should have worded the OP better, all this would be is the locking of the original and starting a part 2. You could still look through and like posts on the original forever if you wanted.

The hugeness of the thread is key to the sheer bliss of beery excess IMO. It should be thosands of pages long... filled with beery beauty. ;)

  31. I dont see the point.I like the big epic thread. I dont see how a seperate thread is really any different. Regardless you go to first unread post.....

Big an unapproachable? Come on man, that's weak. Every forum has long threads, usually you know not to look at the post that's 2+ yrs old.

@Hanzo, you have 3500+ posts, I find it hard to believe that you have trouble "catching up" in that thread.

That thread just sticks out like a sore thumb...and yeah, I am here pretty much all day during the work week and even I am overwhelmed by it once I get a little behind. I mean I asked what the harm would be of splitting it, and all I've gotten is "I like the epic size of it"....what does that even mean? Is the content of the thread better because it's gone on for 10k+ posts?

    YogiBeer and beertunes like this.
  33. It does? Not to me. I love that I can easily go back and look at beer hauls over time. If we go to new threads you lose that. Honestly a new thread still presents the same problems. You still have same amount of posts to "catch up" on. Honestly just dumb all around. There is zero good reason to do it, and 10,887 reasons not to.

  34. There are two threads on other forums i regularly visit that have over 22,000 posts of many more pictures than the Haul thread. Also, over 2.5million views.

I don't think the thread here is too big, there are so many tools to our disposal that make it easier to stay caught up. And hell, just dont stay caught up, and you'll probably get a lot more done during the day :)

  35. I think a monthly reboot could be nice

If it gets reset weekly then it's harder to catch up on. If you miss it from mid week you have to go find the closed thread then go back to the current one.

resetting it only makes the problem worse, no? If you're trying to keep up, wouldn't it be easier to keep it on one continuous thread?

  40. I dont understand what resetting it would help. What is there to follow in that thread? It's just a bunch of pictures. Look at them then click the next page.
