Aloha B'ak'tun, Celebrate the New B'ak'tun with Maui Brewing Co.'s Winter Release

LAHAINA, MAUI, HI - 27 December 2012 - Maui Brewing Co. (MBC) is very proud to announce the release of Aloha B'ak'tun, the last of four limited release beers for 2012. Aloha B'ak'tun, which loosely translates to "hello and goodbye to a calendar period of 400 years", was brewed last Friday, December 21st to coincide with the last day of the Mayan calendar, which many believed was to be the end of the world. Of course, nothing came to an end that day, but MBC did say goodbye to some of their 'ohana and welcomed new members to the team - Aloha B'ak'tun is a tribute to them all.

Aloha B'ak'tun is a Belgian style Stout brewed with Big Island chocolate, locally-grown chipotle peppers and cinnamon. This delicious stout is currently available on draft at the Maui Brewing Co. brewpub and is being canned for distribution to retailers by mid-January. The ABV on this beer is 7%.

In total, approximately 400 barrels will be produced out of which 4300 cases will be canned and the difference to be available in draft. "All market areas where MBC is distributed will receive product but specific allocations will be based on sales," explains Garrett Marrero. "Aloha is often thought of to mean hello and goodbye; we felt the name was fitting given the 'uncertainty'. The draft release on December 21st was a big hit and we're excited to launch cans shortly. I'm sure they'll go quite fast as our limited release series has really developed a following. Cheers to all!"

Maui Brewing Co. is a truly Hawaiian brewery, and proud to make 100% of their beer, canned and draft, in Hawaii. Recognized as Hawaii's #1 craft beer since 2005, the company has a strong commitment to the local economy and the environment. MBC beers are packaged with the most eco-friendly materials. Cans are manufactured on Oahu and designed by local Maui artists. They have the added bonus of better protecting the beer from both light and oxygen damage which can compromise the taste. Plastic rings are dangerous to marine life and therefore, a unique, recyclable plastic carrying device is used to hold the cans. The spent grain from beer production is donated to local ranchers for cattle feed and composting. MBC is also very active in several local Hawaiian charities.

Founder Garrett Marrero and his wife, Melanie, operate a 7-barrel brewpub at the Kahana location as well as a 25-barrel production brewery and canning facility in Lahaina. Maui Brewing Co. is a truly local beer as 100% of their products are made in Hawaii.

Awesome, someone please send some of this and the coconut porter my way!
  5. I have much higher hopes for this beer compared to Sobrehumano and Liquid Breadfruit. Their dark beers are usually quite good.

  11. No, you're thinking of Kona and even that isn't 100% owned by AB.

Bummer. I was just on Oahu for two weeks. Had a four pack of Coconut Porter, but didn't have the guts to buy the Liquid Breadfruit. If I had seen this one, I would have bought it...
