Hommage was the last beer of the night and the agreed upon favorite. Cheers!
I did 2013 Fou and Aurelian side by side in January. At the time, I picked Aurelian. The apricot flavor was more intense, and it had a really nice sourness at the time (I hear it's getting really sour now). That bottle of Fou was not apricot heavy and the funk wasn't there yet. I liked Fou more than Filmishmish back to back just a couple months ago. I didn't side by side West Ashley, but I did kill one solo last week and it was delicious. One of the most apricot forward beers I've had yet (b5).
Very cool tasting, I have been collecting beers as a gift for my wife and plan to give this set with the addition of West Ashley. I'm excited to hear that you rank Filmishmish so high. I had Fuzzy at a tasting and loved it. I'll let you know what I think when we have them side by side.
So you've been collecting beers for you (r wife)?
Can't wait for the new batch of Aurelian to be released. Their peach sour should also be something great. Nocturn B2 has been my favorite so far, love how the new blonde base takes a back seat and let's the blackberries shine through. Super dry which I love and is perhaps why I prefer lambics over most American sours.
With GRDave, Otis, and a couple other friends. Probably the best overall tasting I've been a part of.
Twice a year as many of us as we can get together break out the latest and the greatest from our cellars. Thanks to @mrn1ceguy for hosting. @bstyle brought the funk. @ThirstT had the BA Abraxas showstopper. @jpsy422 brought back the BA Stone. @doublej584j has the southern hook up. @schmidtmattsays always has HF on him. More importantly than the beer, it was a great Saturday afternoon. But you came to see the beer, so here it is.
Top 5 in no particular order: Upright 7th Anniversary, Saison du Fermier, BA Abraxas, T-25, & DB Huna. Best surprises personally were how good the BA Mexican Cakes are and how much the NS Art #18 shined amongst stiff competition. On the flip side, BVDL doesn't improve with age and West Ashley was my least favorite of the entire funk lineup. BA Alpha Klaus w/Orange was easily the mascot of this tasting. Smelled like pledge. Tasted like acetone. Total garbage. I think the only beer not pictured is the growler of Toppling Goliath Zeelander. Pretty solid Saturday.
last week's monthly get together...

Fantastic tasting lineup provided by @Papparoachy, an amazingly generous BA
Nice shots of the COAST glassware!
Ha! All the Hill Farmstead stems were taken, lol.
Last night with GRDave and Otis.
That's a pricey cooler!
Little spiced stout tasting after closing at work!
Had a little Saison/Farmhouse tasting with some friends today. All beers were blind and poured by me...
Order of preference:
1) Tank 7
4) BFM 225
7) Birra (last by a long shot)
South Boston Irish Whiskey
11+12 Dragons Milk
9-11 Dble Crooked Tree
Main theme of the night was chili tasting. Had a great time as we always do! Here are just a few crappy iPhone pictures of the night.
BA Abraxas and regular Abraxas
DB Huna, regular Huna, lairds apple brandy BA grande negro voodoo Papi
Personal whale harpooned and killed. Maple tripple! Thanks Josh!!!
The food was amazing, 'Betsy Chili' took the cake.
A little dessert. (Did a vanilla float with this one)
Crappy ending picture. Another big thanks to Josh for hosting, and packing heat with some amazing bottles!
We had some friends come over for dinner Saturday and this is what it looked like at the end of our night. Our wives said,
"I thought you were just going to try a couple of beers tonight?"
I see Hibernal in the picture, but not in your list!
Had this share a few weeks ago with @EA728, @ajaylock, @allies_dad, @wiingman, and @Lehighace06.
My favorites of the night out of the beers I had never had before were Ever Weisse and Brother Soigne'. Cinnamon Roll'd WnB was a personal whale of mine and was also excellent. I think a couple of the bottles aren't pictured here, like the CCB Cucumber Saison.
And the Westvleteren was the Blond, for those keeping track at home. I don't think anyone at the table had ticked that one before (I've never had 8 or 12 either, saving 12 for my 1000th untappd checkin ), so it was pretty awesome to have that.
There was also a 2nd Tired Hands growler, and one or two others I think as well. Good times!
Yea... that was a little "pre-game" tasting. We felt it was just a little too different from the others to include in the regular tasting.
Oh okay, that makes sense. What did you think?
Opened up a few bottles the other night. Small, but all of the beers were fantastic. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers to all you beer advocates and whalers!
A nice wednesday with the KC gang (@trevor_s @PeakedInHighSchool @scotlyn911 @Thishops4u @dujayhawk )
De Garde Boysenberry Bu
WB AB Mexican Cake
Flora w/ BB
11' Kate the Great
Nebco BB Imperial Stout
Bruery Rue D' Floyd
Last night - in order of appearance:
Not pictured, but still enjoyed:
Dogfish Head - World Wide Stout
Fiddlehead - Second Fiddle
Lawson's Finest - Sip of Sunshine
Lagunitas - A Little Sumpin' Extra Ale
Tilquin - Oude Gueuze
New Glarus - Oud Bruin
Grey Monday was the unanimous winner, followed by DB Jesus, and 16.
Of the non stouts, A Little Sumpin' Extra won the honors from the majority, I believe.
Another great night of drinking with friends.
Thanks for hosting Paul and Vicki ~ Cheers!
A friend has been talking about doing a huge Bruery tasting for a few years. It finally happened last weekend.
Not pictured are a few years of Tart of Darkness.
There were 5 of us and it was by far the best night I've had drinking beer.
My wife and I and another couple not BA'ers
What the 2nd one?
Any noticeable difference in the Tart of Darkness vertical? Or vertical of the others?
Very nice! I'm gonna do a bible belt vs bomb night. Did your group rank these at all?
Separate names with a comma.
