Star of the North was one of my first ever sour experiences – anyone else had this beer? Thoughts?

The second in the series was released yesterday – Framboise du Nord. I’m stalking my stores right now to grab a few!

Star of the North is a Top 5 new beer of 2013 for me. I had Framoise du Nord last night and amazingly, it tops it! Fantastic series and can't wait for the next release in the Spring!

I could have drank a bottle of Star of the North every night this past summer, so d@mn good! In my opinion a Berliner up there with New Glarus's, but didn't get noticed as much. I'll have to try the new one.

I rate SotN a tad bit higher than NG Berliner Weisse, but both were amazing beers. FdN is next level.

I am hoarding bottles of SotN right now when I see them. I think I have 4. I want at least 4 FDN and I haven't even tasted it yet!!

I see SotN all over the place by me still. Does anyone know the bottle count?

Wish there were bottles around here left. It went VERY quick once it hit shelves here in the Summer. I still have one bottle that I'll probably open when I pop the cork on my next FdN.

Ive still got a SotN in my fridge! I also know MGM's had them scattered around the city. Ill be grabbing a Framb tonight.

I see SotN in pockets. Some stores ran out quickly in the cities. Others still have a case or two. I don't knwo the barrel count on that one, or the release. I know FDN was a 70 barrel release.
  14. HA! Why don't you just tell him where its at so I can hook a brotha up.

I wish the price point on FdN was lower. I understand knocking it up a few bucks for the raspberries, but $5 (a 50% increase) feels like too much. Don't get me wrong - I think it's a great beer, and I love that they're doing it! I was planning on buying several, I'll be dialing that down because of the cost.

I would if he asked but I'm assuming he doesnt care since he's in Iowa and not Minnesota.
  18. Totally agree. I had a bit of sticker shock on this one too.

I've been to several stores in the SW metro and haven't seen it yet. Any tips?
  21. pourmeadrink

    pourmeadrink Savant (290) Minnesota Oct 16, 2013

It will depend on their delivery date. If they don't have it by Friday, maybe call around?
  22. Just bought a raspberry one at Zipps.
  23. Need to get some of this. Had a SotN the other night, excellent. MGM Champlian and Northgate Andover each still had a bunch of SotN.

I have two extras at home. Never know when they will sell out! Anyone know what the plans for the spring release are? Heard rumors? If they do it again in May, I plan to run their Lager Lauf 6k and spend some time at the brewery :D

What price are you all seeing? I found some for 13.99 last night but I've been told as high as 18.

    maximum12 Advocate (735) Minnesota Jan 21, 2008

$14.99 at South Lyndale last night. They also had some regular Star of the North.

Agree on the sticker shock. Was going to buy 3 or more, settled on one for me & one for a good trading partner, & unless it's insanely good, won't be back for more. It's my own unfair expectations, but I was surprised at the price point coming from Schell's.

    was SotN ever on tap?
  28. pourmeadrink

    pourmeadrink Savant (290) Minnesota Oct 16, 2013

SotN started at 14.99 when it was first out and came down to 9.99 around me. I am seeing FdN at 14.99 in New Brighton/Roseville.

I never saw it on tap -- When ordered in a restaurant, it was treated like ordering a bottle of wine. I got the whole thing!

Not sure but five thousand pounds of raspberries and the labor it takes to clean them out of wooden tanks may have something to do with the extra $5.
The beer is absolutely stunning and well worth $15 in my opinion. We have plenty of both Noble Star releases at South Lyndale

I was at the brewery before it was announced (i believe it was prior) and in the tasting room they had a bottle of the first batch lined up with all the other ones, and I pointed and said "WHATS THAT, I WANT TO TRY THAT!" and the guy chuckled and said to keep my eyes open when it hit stores. They are knocking it out of the park with these beers!
  37. pourmeadrink

    pourmeadrink Savant (290) Minnesota Oct 16, 2013

  38. BrettHead

    BrettHead Advocate (525) Nebraska Sep 18, 2010

That's over 10,000 bottles of each I believe :) Assuming no kegs and no wastage (which of course is impossible).
