Cheers and hope everybody has a great Sunday!
What a way to start the day, almosy makes me want to grab my Founders Imp Stout, that I picked up yesterday. But with kids on the loose this morning, I think I better at least wait till nap time.
just got home from work and thought i'd try this out
I'm still on a Lagunitas Sucks kick. Damn it is SO good.
I've discovered that FIS has improved my parenting skills dramatically.
I want that glass.
I'm drinking another bottle of Odell Lugene. Chocolate Milk Stout. I wish the abv was lower.
Finishing the glass of Heavy Seas Black Cannon IPA that I abandoned last night to go to bed.
Whoever told me Heavy Seas makes good beers is not my friend anymore
Day 5 of Biggest Loser. No drinking for me (self-imposed) until the Super Bowl. Enjoy your beers.
Cup of coffee, 800mg of Ibuprofin, and a Bojangles Cajun Filet Biscuit usually do the trick for me. If that doesnt work then a bloody mary is in order
Man, you guys start early (anyone coming off of a late shift, that's different). Just coffee for me right now, but either Bigfoot or Sculpin tonight.
Coffee here too. But I'm waiting for Beer Study in Carrboro to open up so I can go drink some Foothills Jade and play some Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
Rough day at work...I immediately thought of this beer on my drive home...
Great minds think alike...
This is really hitting the spot right now...
Aw man, I wanna have some Jade. Really hoping I can make a trip out to the brewery over spring break, and get a growler of it. I'd like to try all the Jades
Starting my Sunday with a Torpedo. Then off to the bar to kick my Fathers @ss in pool while I drink Miller Lite or Heineken
I heard Jade is coming out in bombers before too long. And yeah, I really need to try Papa and Baby Jade too. Hell I'm off work today and tomorrow maybe its time for a road trip to Winston
I'm waiting for the NBS thread to start so I can reply with this:
A delicious Belgian style ale made from the great state of Wyoming!
Finishing up SN Celebration and hoping the Celtics avoid embarrassment on national TV....odds and ends clean up after that. Breckinridge Oatmeal Stout, probably.
Counter Clockwise...Grand Cru, Serrano Double Stout, Palate Wrecker, 1st Anv Ale, Barlleywine Candela...Green Bullet...and then I forget...all Green Flash
Starting off with this as I catch up on Winter XGames on DVR
First Heady ever
What stood out?
Coffee. It's not even nine in the morning here! I gotta at least have lunch preparations started before I start drinking beer.
Since you're a HT rookie, you get a pass but.... Drink from the can!
Kidding... it's delicious either way. Enjoy!
Actually the first few sips were from the can, but I felt as if I was missing most of the aroma, so I poured some into a glass.
I wanted to give this one a try; pretty good.
Just picked up a 4 pack this morning...couldn't wait to try it...
HEAR HEAR! Cheers to Wyoming!
This is good- ready for some big ten hoops in this ice storm here in Illinois....
Wish I could pretend that these were new beers (and post in the NBS thread), but that would be dishonest (aw, shucks)...
My first ever side-by-side tasting (horizontal tasting?) of the top three tripels:
So, I gathered my supplies: the same glasses (I only had these wine glasses), some palate-cleansing Saltines and pretzels, cold water, a bottle opener (duh!), and a notepad (oh, and stoppers, to keep the rest of the beers fresh for later, when I can finish them lol):
I poured the beers into the glasses (left to right), trying to keep the amounts the same...
Where the hell is the head on the La Fin Du Monde (LFDM)? (*deducts points*) - the Karmeliet went "Duvel" on me and nearly overflowed... Lookit the cat - curious, as expected lol
How they settled down:
Tried to eat a cracker/pretzel and drink some water between samples...
More curious: note how the cat has gotten closer (borderline creepy, right?)
This was great fun, BTW - got to try the top-rated tripels side-by-side - I had my predispositions and I wanted to see if they were accurate (couldn't do it blind, since I was the only participant)...
The Westmalle (WM) is the best tripel in the universe (yes, universe), followed oh-so-closely by the Karmeliet (TK)... the LFDM was a little off-tasting, even though it is currently ranked as the top tripel on the site. I find that the Unibroue beers (and Ommegang's stuff, too, BTW) have a very distinct yeast flavor (at least I think it's the yeast) that is a little "off" - should be no surprise that the Belgians do it best (IMO).
I thought the WM was the most beer-like and traditional, while the TK had an almost champagne-like character (that I love, BTW). The edge will go to the WM since it had the best head and lacing (yes, looks matter). The LFDM was sweeter, fruitier, chewier and had a spice character, as well as the aforementioned yeast character, that I didn't note in the other two. Maybe a lot of people like that, hence its currently higher rating. For my tastes, Westmalle and Karmeliet have the advantage, with the WM just a teensy bit more perfect; so I will finish the victorious Westmalle now:
Updated all my reviews, 'natch!
Peace out, beer-lovers!
Thus spoken the Wolf!
Was thinking about cellaring the 2012's.......nah. Too hard.
It's not delivery...
