Patrick's Gaslamp Pub

in San Diego, California

vibe: 4 | quality: 4 | service: 4.25 | selection: 2.5

Patrick's is located in the Gaslamp District in San Diego. It's a fairly small, traditional establishment. There's a bar along one end and some tables and chairs along the other side.

Today wasn't too crowded but I've walked by when this place was packed. The guy behind the counter was friendly and attentive.

It's not a place for craft beer drinkers. The selection is very limited. I knew that going in.

I cannot imagine a better vibe for a brew pub, because that's EXACTLY what it is. Modeled after traditional English pubs, this place is designed to be social. Many board games, picnic tables, sweet patio, dog-friendly, a library, darts, hook and loop game, walk-up window, growler-friendly, stand-up tables... if you come here and aren't social then you are probably antisocial. Not to mention it is all this deceptively built into a warehouse! Oh yeah, no computers, they keep your tab with a chalk tally on the bar in front of you! Bad ass!
Quality is as good as it gets. It's clean and there's not a bad beer in the house. All home-made, all excellent.
Service is walk-up only. Sometimes annoying, but it is run smoothly at this joint.
Selection only loses points for lack of today's preferred, in-your-face type of styles. They focus on traditional English stes with some exceptions. All their beers are excellent and well-made.
Food is good, but limited. No kitchen, just a sandwich station with soup and a few other offerings.
Awesome place. A hidden jem in the exploding StL craft beer scene!

Vibe is meh. Wide open space feels emptyish. Few board games, darts, lame sofa, no TVs in one of the country's best sports towns, nice patio... that's it.
Quality is great. Never a bad beer here, but sometimes a bit one-dimensional, messy on busy days, awkward water service.
I'd like better service. Different staff members provide different levels of service and attitude. Slow on a good day.
Selection is weak. Rarely a hoppy offering. Rarely a big-ticket beer. Weekly test batches are cool, but I'd like to see more marquee offerings more often.
Food is great, selection is small.

Vibe is world-class, the only point deduction is due to the smll size, loud atmosphere when crowded (which is often), and single bathroom... just one... for everyone.
Quality is the best possible. Period.
Service is excellent except for the awkwardly-shaped bar which is crowded on a good day, but the staff does their best to serve and do well.
Selection is about as good as can be for the size. That being said, it is smallish and $ is on the high end.
Overall an exceptional establishment. Any criticisms were very specific and nit-picky.

Weird vibe here, as it was also a casino and bowling alley, and had that dark atmosphere. Minimal brews on tap, of varying quality. Good happy hour pricing, however. Lots of bar staff kept asking how we were doing.

I felt inclined to review this place b.c. of the super good food, beer, and service. Ambiance is excellent. Service is Colorado friendly and so is the vibe. It's a food place first, the beer selection, bottles only, was pretty small, but solid: Evil Twin, Mikaheller, funkwerks, etc. The bartender knew his stuff, ambience was great, and the food is on par with any major city in America. This is absolutely a must stop if you are within an hour of G.J.

I hit this place up 3 times in 2 visits to G.J. Service ranged from great to barely o.k. (take order, drop check & run) with minimal to no conversation about beer. Service score was weighted for how busy the place was. I sat a the bar twice and outside once. Great space, airy, outside is beautiful (dependent on weather, obviously). Selection is solid, a bunch of local & specialty taps, around 30 total. Food is definitely above average for a brewpub & the happy hour is a great deal. Would suggest avoiding entree type dishes & stick to apps. Overall, I would say the place is a don't miss.

Solid place, relaxed vibe. Can get full pours or flights. Seating is pretty much right in the treehouse. Have a decent variety of beers most days and food trucks on the weekend. Great place to relax and have a few.

Easy to find on Southbound Rt. 9 near the McDonalds in Wappingers Falls. Its located behind a coffee shop and across from a pharmacy. Small brewing operations which are located in the tasting room. About 8 bar stools at a minimalistic bar, and cool orange walls. Beer menu was handed to me and unfortunately a few were not available. They had a pale ale, english porter, hefe, amber, and a Roggenbier. Only had time for one pint and the pale ale was good. Service is very friendly here and the brewer was talking to patrons. Worthy of a stop if in the area.

This place is long and narrow and has a nice big wood bar and brick walls. There are several deer heads mounted on the wall, and it is rather dark. The beer list showed 24 taps, 8 cans, and 8 bottles. A few of these are local NYC beers and one offs from other breweries. Beers were fresh and there seems to be a good turnover here. Service was prompt despite the fact it was packed. My visit was enjoyable, and I will be back in the future.

Great bottle shop. They have tastings on Friday and Saturday to introduce new beer and wine to their customers. I like the selection of singles to make your own six packs. Knowledgeable staff is always friendly.

I randomly saw this place while driving and made a mental note to stop there on the way back from my ultimate destination. This is a really cool spot to enjoy some craft brews and grab a bite to eat. Small, tidy, good bar space, tables, and a small back patio. I sampled a few of the beers (four- and six-pour sampler flights available), and while none really blew me away, there was some solid stuff, and I'd say these guys are on the right track. Options included an APA, IPA, APL, cocoa porter (my favorite), saison, and a few other things. I had a chat with one of the owners who was super friendly, as was the rest of the staff. Seems like they have some good ideas for the future including working with barrel aging. Merch and growlers also available. They just opened their kitchen, and their menu is actually quite impressive, with some house-made items (spent-grain bread, chips, etc.), and even a kids' menu.

I am going to keep an eye on this place, and I'll most likely be back to visit next time I'm in the area.

Only 6 beers on tap during my visitbut at least these had a good range beers included an imperial stout, a sour, IPA, DIPA, and a saison. With no sound damping, the concrete walled taproom is loud and reverberating, even without a crowd.
Friendly service but less knowledgeable than expected.
Biggest surprise: plenty of free parking at this urban location.

They really outdid themselves. This brewery is way nicer than the Chico brewery and I thought that one was awesome! Great tour! Great food. Got to try some rabbit for the first time there. It was delicious along with the lamb! The brewery is so beautiful there too.

Friendly but not intrusive staff. Wide selection of beers from around the world with clear shelf labels. Decent selection of local (Virginia) beers. Prices are a bit steep, but that's offset by the fact that you can break up any six- (or four-) pack on the shelves. Decor is somewhat spartan, but who cares? the selection is what matters, and as several others have noted, you can have a beer while shopping for beer. Check it out.

Vibe? It's a big grocery store. Quality is decent for a grocery store, as is selection and price, but vibe and quality (especially regarding selection) are not competitive with a real beer store. Service was not so great. I asked one question, and the person who I asked had to go ask someone else the answer, so staff knowledge is obviously not consistent. But most disappointing was the lack of any "make your own 6 pack" option. There were several beers I would have liked to try, but I certainly was not willing to spend $10 or more for a sixer just to sample something unknown. If you know what you want, and they have it, you can probably get it at a good price.

Only open 3 days a week, Thursday - Saturday, and just 21 hours those 3 days. 3-9 Thu & Fri, 12-9 Sat.
The coffee place next door does sell one of their brews though, so options are slightly greater to partake.
Friendly folks working in a small (2 bbl ?) setup 20 feet from the tasting area.
Offering are on a big screen with ABV & IBUs listed, even which hop types are used.
Prices are very reasonable and food trucks are available every Thursday & Friday from 3 - 9.
If you're nearby, check them out.

A must-see each year while venturing to GABF. It's literally three little shacks all cobbled together in a very cheap-looking (but awesome) dive-bar way. I had the misfortune of misplacing my credit card during the Avery promotion last year and upon my return the next day, the staff could not have been more helpful, supportive and understanding. Beer selection leans toward local...but fresh is better, right?

I generally post-up at Scottsdale Plaza Resort and Four Peaks Bar & Grill is the closest place I know of to find wonderful, locally-made beer. The vibe is mellow and the perfect place to relax after a long day at the pool. As an added bonus the place is family-friendly and most of the kids seem better-behaved than most places. Four stars!

Well, the newer Tenaya location may be prettier, but Nellis is my first stop when I hit town...often even before I check in at the hotel. Cool dive bar / pool hall feel with an always interesting draught beer lineup. The waitstaff and bartenders are reasonably well educated and always very personable. The one rating I wish I could give is for value...the prices are very reasonable, which makes them practically dirt-cheap for Las Vegas.
