The Norbert Bar & Kitchen

I've visit The Norbert about four times now and loved each visit. The staff is friendly and do a great job at being attentive w/o being overbearing. It is clean and very welcoming inside. Their beer selection may not please the most ardent beer geek but it is solid - I can always find one or two beers to my liking from a tap list of about 20 brews. While the beer selection is good to very good, the food is outstanding. Most things are served on small plates but they also have 3 or 4 "larger" plates that are close to entree in size. Highly recommended stop if you find yourself in downtown West Bend.

This is a great place for a wide selection of good craft beers. I was traveling through town and stopped after reading good reviews on BA. I was not disappointed. The staff was helpful and the prices were very good. Will stop every time I am close by.

I try not to go to Kane during beach season, as traffic can be tough. That leaves me with about 8 months out of the year when I can get to Kane in just about an hour. Well worth the drive.
There are always new/different beers on tap in the tasting room. Long bar and attentive staff makes getting fills easy, even when busy.

Big Ugly Brewing Company

in Chesapeake, Virginia

3.52/5  rDev -7.1% | Avg: 3.79
vibe: 3.5 | quality: 2.5 | service: 4.75 | selection: 3.5

The pros:

Service is great and the friendliness of the staff is unparalleled.

It's cozy, but has a lot of character inside (especially for being in a strip mall). The VW bus for seats, tables, games etc. make for a fine environment for meeting up with some friends.

It has a huge neighborhood vibe, seem to be lots of regulars, but at the same time is very inviting.

Prices are great - flight of 4 beers for $5.50 for instance.

They do have a relatively large selection and diverse menu (yesterday they had a blonde, brown, saison, berliner, gose, belgian, ipa, porter, RIS, cask porter and some others).

The cons:
In short, the beer is not good. I tried 9 and felt like I could drink more of 3 - the IPA, saison, and the Porter. I couldn't finish a couple samplers (cask porter, Berliner).

The cask was chocolate cherry porter yesterday and was possibly infected (I'm no pro so not saying for sure). The sour notes could have been from the cherries but were completely unexpected and unpleasant. A few of the intentionally sour beers (berliner weisse, gose) had the sour aspect but lacked most anything else in terms of a flavor profile.

Overall -
They're new and have a lot going for them. I'm glad I came in, but not really planning to go back anytime soon. I'm glad there is definitely a loyal local following and I wish them all the best!

This is a neat place. I drove over 4 hours to get to Tree House. I waited in line for over an hour in temperatures less than 20 degrees with a 100+ other people. Everyone is talking beer and very cordial. Once the door opens it is orderly and efficient. The beer is the best. Only downside is they didn't have all their beers available when I was there or else I would have bought them all.

Myself and 2 friends made the long ride from Philly to Cleveland after I won a contest from Mad Mex for an overnight stay along with a tour and dinner from Great Lakes.
Even on a busy Saturday night, we were seated quickly and our waitress was friendly and efficient. This was not biased by any special treatment as all I had was a gift card to use for dinner. We all got samplers of beers we hadn't tried after the tour. Everybody enjoyed their meal as well. Everyone I dealt at Great Lakes with prior to our trip was also super nice and accommodating. It's a long way to go, but if I find myself with a reason to be in Cleveland agian, I wouldn't hesitate to go here again.

(Morgantown location)
I wasn't sure what to expect, this place was picked solely on geography during a trip from Philly to Lexington, KY.
The space is large and open and decorated with western/farming motif. staff seemed to be mostly college kids, but pleasant and attentive.
Myself and 3 friends all got samplers and pizzas. The beer was all decent with the Seneca IPA being my favorite of the ones I tried. The pizza was surprisingly good and everyone enjoyed theirs.

Industrial warehouse look with a nice big bar and lots of seating. Had 9 beers on tap which should meet the needs of most beer lovers except I love hops and on this visit the session IPA st 42 IBUs was their hoppiest choice which is almost impossible to believe.

Lots of food choices from sushi to pizza. I will definitely try this place again however will check the tap list first.

What more can be said about Hill Farmstead that others haven't already said?

We were staying in Burlington for a week and I reserved a day to myself to make the 1 1/2 hour drive to beer Mecca. After driving through the beautiful hills of Vermont for a while, I turned off to follow the directions from the HF website. My GPS yelled at me the entire way, but after passing farms and cows and driving on bumpy, rugged dirt roads for a while I saw a sign telling me I had arrived!

I was surprised at the number of people that were there on a Wednesday at noon, but the whole process of filling growlers and buying bottles was run quite efficiently.

Today was stop #4 in the last 2 wks. Usually just for a pint but today lunch as well. I like the fact that they open at 11AM whereas most other places not until 3 PM. If there were more variety to available brews I would rate it higher in the Quality and Selection categories.

No Tv which to me is a plus

This place is way over-priced! Seems they did have a variety of beer. I stood at the bar for at least 10 minutes and was never served. Maybe would be OK if it was busy, but there was only 2 other people there. Dirty nasty dive is what I saw! I wouldn't waste my time.

Finger Lakes Beverage Center

4.83/5  rDev +6.4% | Avg: 4.54

I stopped reviewing bottle shops a while ago, since 1) there's often usually just one game in town, and it's not like people are going to make travel plans regarding stores, and 2)things can change a lot in a short amount of time, and store visiting experience can vary wildly trip by trip.

I'm reviewing the Finger Lakes Beverage Center, though, because it is probably the best beer store I have ever been to. The only ones that come close are Waterbury's Beer Cellar and Milwaukee's Discount Liquors and Three Cellars, but each of those go for a very different vibe.

They don't sell beer at liquor stores in NY state. Meaning, a beer store is a beer store. And this is the largest, most sprawling, most obviously well cared for beer store I've ever been to. They have a cold section that puts any Binny's to shame, single bottle selections for a large variety of local, midwest, and east coast brews, large and nicely rotated selections of Belgian, Scandinavian, English, continental, and Japanese brews, and a fantastic and cheap variety of macro domestics. Also growlers.

The North Brewery

in Endicott, New York

4.73/5  rDev +5.1% | Avg: 4.5
vibe: 4.5 | quality: 5 | service: 4.75 | selection: 4.5

This is a reference almost no one will get, but Endicott reminded me of Rock Falls, Illinois in the late 1990s. It's small but it doesn't feel oppressively small. The towndown is still old timey, with storefronts dating from at least the early twentieth century and some old facades still up, but this doesn't feel scary or abandoned like the do in most Midwestern towns. They've been care for. Things still happen there.

One such storefront, which looks deceptively small from the outside, houses the North Brewery, the surprise starts of the 2015 Extreme Beer Fest. Their facility is quite large for an old commercial storefront--it might have been a small department store, back in the day. It is woody and clean and nicely worn. Very sparse, too: the bar doesn't even have stools or places to sit.

The vibe feels genuine, is what I'm getting at. These people are way more concerned about their beer than they are about anything else. At too many new breweries, craft beer is an investment opportunity, a way of riding a rapidly ascending cultural wave. This has led to a slew of homoegenous, antiseptic brewers, aesthetically manicured places that attract monied illiterates and pump out mediocre beer. You don't get that here. Hiring a designer even even crossed these dudes' minds.

So instead of some magazine spread decor, you get excellent beer and good goddamn people. Call me old fashioned, but that's the way it should be.

The selection wasn't super wide (only 5-6 options), but every style was done perfectly. The beer is very contemporary, tending toward large hop profiles and higher ABVs, but more English influenced that most newer breweries. The French Kiss was the second-best maple beer I've ever had, after only Mornin' Delight, and the Prime IPA was so loaded with sediment it was like licking the bottom of a pack of whole leaf Centennial hops.

SaltWater Brewery

Saltwater is a pretty cool spot to hang out, I've had a good time going there most times, but there are some issues. First problem is the parking, this location only has about 10 real parking spots. If you arrive and all the spots are filled you must park on the grass on the side of the road and that area usually fills up and the rest of the adjacent lots are tow zones. The beer at Saltwater is ok, nothing special, maybe over time they will get better. They also need to do a better job at training their bartenders, some do not know how to pour a beer (lots of foam) and others have no understanding of the beer they are serving (i.e. know the difference between an IPA and a stout). This location has a lot of potential, but they really have to work out some of the kinks.

Cool mural on the wall completed by a local artist. There were 4 beers on tap the day that we visited (an IPA, APA, Red Ale, and oatmeal stout). Sampler paddles and pints were available. Growler fills were reasonable at $10 for 64oz. fill and $6 for 32oz. fill. There are plenty of tables and a bar to sit back and relax with some good beer.

A well appointed taproom. Its a bit small but the space is efficiently utilized, plenty of tables and seating, Rest rooms are clean with ample capacity this is overlooked in other establishments where the plumbing insufficiency is supplemented with portapotties... nice. Parking isn't great but that's typical. Lots of food trucks... all good. I really like this place and not just because I could walk home if I had to. The beers are good and always a bunch of nice friendly folks there. Make Copperpoint a must on your South Florida brewery tour.

Pros- Decent selection, very nice servers. Found a seat on a busy friday night quickly

Cons- This bar is filled with yuppies, but not even that, worse. Its like a scene, a place to go. Its adjacent to all these clubs and i get the feeling that the people here are just pregaming to get wasted and go to a club all night. Def not the place i want to chill and enjoy a cold ones. Maybe a monday night for a hockey game would be chiller, but damn this is a ZOO

I was really looking forward to visiting Bangin Banjo, but I just wasn't impressed during my visit. Its tucked away in a business park which is fine, but it can be a little difficult to find. I had a hard time trying to figure out what theme they were after, some wood decor, but bottles from other breweries decorate the walls. Plenty of seating inside and a selection of board games plus a shuffleboard table. On to the beer, I can't really say anything I had on my flight stood out, everything was just ok. Another random thing was the names of their beers, no real rhyme or reason to them. They could definitely improve how they display what is on tap, the TV showing the selection has font that is too small to read easily and the paper menus were multiple pages long which was a little annoying when trying to decide. I probably won't return to their brewery, but may try another one of their beers if it is on tap somewhere else.

Airplane themed brewery, with what looks like the hulls of old military planes decorating the walls. I think the beers are all named after them as well. We only tried 2 beers; one was good and the other great. They had pool, ping pong, and other games in different rooms around the place.

Cool bicycle themed brewery. They had some games and were dog friendly, but pretty small so it got crowded quickly. Even so, bartender was very attentive and gave explanations when asked. The beet beer was a little weird, but everything else we tried was great. 12 or so beers on tap if I remember correctly. I'd definitely go again if I'm in town.

Can't get a flight, but cool environment, dog friendly, has lots of board games, darts, and other activities. Service was pretty quick even though it was busy. Beer we tried was good but not great (and served in plastic cups :( ), if I remember correctly they had 10-12 on tap. They don't have a kitchen but typically have a food truck outside.

This is the same crew that used to brew at the R Bar in Treasure Island; they've branched out into an indoor/outdoor bar with a spacious covered patio. 18 taps, beer was good, arcade games, pinball machines, foozball tables all encourage the patrons to have another pint.

The selection is top notch... but nothing else is... the prices are horrible. It's just a tease. NEVER GO HERE.

It's the worst because they have almost everything you want, but it's 2x more than the most expensive price you have seen online. They are also really obnoxious about it.

I saw this review online, and it's pretty good:
