Full Moon Flip for Two, a Beer Cocktail with Chicory, Chili, and Imperial Stout

Kindred Spirits by | Mar 2017 | Issue #122

Crafted at Bar Mash in Charleston, S.C.

This cocktail got its name from a chicory-infused liquor barreled under a full moon by Cathead Distillery in Mississippi. The liquor’s bittersweet spice combines with the kick of chili liqueur and two Charleston-brewed ingredients—a ginger- and vanilla-infused bourbon by Virgil Kaine Lowcountry Whiskey Co. and an Imperial Stout by COAST Brewing Co.—to create a flip with a warming spice and enough body to stand up to the final chilly days before spring.

3 oz COAST Brewing Co. Blackbeerd Stout (or another Russian Imperial Stout, like North Coast Old Rasputin or Great Divide Yeti)
1 1/2 oz Virgil Kaine Ginger-Infused Bourbon
1 oz Cathead Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur
1 oz Ancho Reyes Chili Liqueur
1/2 oz coconut syrup
1 large egg
fresh mint and grated nutmeg for garnish

Add all ingredients to shaker tin and dry shake to incorporate. Next, add ice and hard shake to proper dilution and temperature. Double strain into two Nick & Nora glasses. Garnish with fresh mint and grated nutmeg.
