Tasting Beer, 2nd edition: An Insider’s Guide to the World’s Greatest Drink
by Randy Mosher
Storey Publishing | April 2017, $19.95

It’s safe to say most first editions of Randy Mosher’s Tasting Beer are pretty beat up—highlighted and dog-eared, maybe in preparation for the Cicerone exam, or with excited notes from a now-veteran’s early days. Mosher’s second edition has been much anticipated. An expanded section on draft systems includes even more detail about the science behind the technology and a worksheet to help determine the specs of a perfect pour. In the new section on beer cocktails, Mosher makes us rethink Radlers (adding pomegranate juice to a Rye Red Ale? Yes, please), and throws in a fun mix and match breakfast cocktail chart. It might be the industry’s go-to beer-education guide, but what makes Tasting Beer a bestseller is Mosher’s prose. Between graphs and formulas, he reminds us that beer is a “swirling cupboard of spices and fruit, earth, and wood” … OK, the second edition is going to end up dog-eared, too.
