Poured from bottle into tulip, good 1 finger tan head, great retention, good lacing. Clear amberish red in the glass, clear with a slight chill haze. Smells sweet, caramel, toffee and the cinnamon and nutmeg are there also. Taste is pretty complex, lots going on. Taste is big malt sweetness on the front, caramel, slight burnt sugar, raisin, plum, lots going on. The use of the spices was nice, it provides a finish to the sip and it remains on the palate for a few seconds after the sip. Going for the oatmeal cookie effect, then well played Saint Arnold, it worked.

From a 22oz bottle picked at Bottlecraft in San Diego. Poured into snifter.
Look: poured pale gold with a 1/2" off white head with average retention. 1/4" remains at all times. Minimal lacing observed. Beer is not 100% clear but not NE hazy. Just a bit of cloudiness.
Smell: earthy yeast combined with strong piney, citrusy and tropical fruit (mango, papaya) aromas.
Taste: its all about the hops here. Bold piney and citrusy (orange mostly) hop flavors and extreme bitterness combined with some honey-like sweetness.
Feel: Medium-full body. Resiny, rich texture. lively carbonation and pronounced astringency. Finishes long with intense bitterness lingering and some alcohol warming present later on as well.
Overall: bold, over-the-top DIPA that was designed for serious hop-heads only! Although I cannot find any real flaws, its just a bit too intense and bitter for my personal liking.

3.83/5  rDev +7.9% | Score: 3.55
look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 26 2018, listed at 6.2% and served barely chilled. I do remember picking up a few cans of this during its original retail run (early last year), but I must've forgotten to review it.

Pours a clear, dark copper-russet colour, generating just over a finger of smooth, foamy, buff-tinted head. It disintegrates over the next several minutes, leaving behind a thin, creamy-looking cap and collar, as well as a respectable coat of lacing. Very visually appealing. Its aroma is malt-forward, including notes of toffee, toasted biscuit, hazelnut and light peatiness, as well as some much fainter hints of grassy, earthy hops and dark fruit - dates and/or raisin, perhaps? Works for me.

A nice, straightforward Scotch ale. Of course, it's the malts leading the charge at the start of the sip - I'm getting caramel and brown sugar sweetness, with bready, biscuity notes and hints of toasted nuts developing soon thereafter. Suggestions of prune and date are next to join the fray, but the profile then winds down with hints of earthy, vaguely herbal hops, peat smoke and a (very) minor hint of licorice, followed by a bittersweet, lightly toasted malt aftertaste. Medium-light in body, with low carbonation levels that limply agitate the palate, giving it a smooth mouthfeel. Good drinkability for a wee heavy: it's not too sweet, and slides down the gullet with ease.

Final Grade: 3.83, a B+. One of the more 'senior' craft breweries in this market - and one that I still have fond memories of from back in my early craft geek days - Grand River has never been about gimmicky beers or chasing the latest fads. They mostly brew simple, traditional-style Euro and UK-inspired offerings, and they are quite good at doing that... but the beer scene in this province only seems to diverge from that well-worn template more and more as the years go by. Hopefully the new owners will keep what works, and change whatever needs to be changed in order to remain relevant into the future. Beam Me Up isn't one of their more established recipes, but personally, I think it's one that's worth keeping.

Big funky smell up-front followed by a big funky taste. I get opine notes but zero citrus/melon notes as per description. Not what I expected and I don't know what the hype and high price point is all about. Not what I expected from this brewery and a wet-hopped ale.

16oz can, date stamped 12/27/18. Thick frothy white head, tins of chunky lacing, bright golden haze for body. Zesty and tropical fruit cocktail aroma. Hop forward flavors with notes of pineapple, passion fruit, tangerine zest, fruit cocktail, lime, grapefruit, and piney mango. Full body, resinous yet still creamy, pungent bitter finish. Big, hoppy IPA - I'd get this again.

16oz can from Draggin'Balls76

Poured into Speigl glass.

Deep jammy raspberry/blackberry color with a pink head of 1 finger. Very nice looking.

Both salty and sour aromas - blackberry, raspberry, salt, mineral, and jam. Slight raspberry vinegar.

Flavor is mildly jammy but mostly sour and salty, very much in the berliner territory. The blackberries and raspberries add a nice jelly complexity to what would otherwise be a simple mineral profile. Lingering sourness and salinity.

Feel is crisp and clean, would be great on a summer day.

Overall although the fruit would have been long gone by the time it heats up in these parts, I wish I could have this on a hot day. Very nice quencher. Maybe I'll sit in front of a heater with a blanket and and a snowsuit :-)

500ml can purchased at Carwyn Cellars. Best before 29/05/2019. Poured into a tulip.
Look: Pours a clear golden amber, with about 1-2 cm of fluffy white head with tight little bubbles. Slowly falls back to a thin film. Looks good.
Smell: nose is a little sweet, a bit fruity. Peach, mango and a bit of citrus. There is a little bit of heat coming through the back end here.
Taste: tastes similar to the nose. fruity up front, mango and citrus. A little bit of sweet malt comes through, but not too much. A bit of booze in there too.
Feel: It is a surprisingly heavy beer, too heavy really. Bitterness at the end, but not as much as I would have expected. Some length.
Overall: Its not a bad beer, but it is too heavy and too boozy
