Smooth, crisp, and refreshing pilsner. A big, cold glass of this beer hits the spot every time.

When in Rome...

As I sit in downtown Prague enjoying a second draft mug of Pilsner Urquell, it dawned on me that although I typically do not drink light lagers, this is actually a good beer and I should take a moment to rate it.

The first thing I noticed was a huge, fluffy white head that quickly dissipated to a nice lacing of the glass mug. Excellent appearance and not at all like the other reviews (with regard to the head) I briefly reviewed before writing this (likely due to being draft vs bottle and only an hour from the home brewery). The color is a light golden (it is a bit dark in here though) and crystal clear.

The smell is nothing spectacular, but does reflect on the simplicity of the beer. Slight hints of malt and yeast dominate.

The taste is mildly hoppy and clean with a moderate finish that lasts long enough without being dry. Again, simple but true to the style this beer created and made popular worldwide.

The mouthfeel is light and crisp allowing for an easy second sip.

This is not my favorite beer genre, but for a pilsner style beer you certainly cannot go wrong here. I also recommend the ambience of drinking it in the Czech Republic if at all possible. That alone warrants an extra bit of style for this classic beer.

Out of the can in the states... fantastic.

Unfiltered, unpasteurized in Prague or elsewhere in Europe... perfection.

In my opinion, when this beer is properly handled, it is the best beer in the world.

I'll take up arguments.

No head on a golden, clear beer with light bubbles.
Smells beery, lightly sweet, and distantly floral.
Tastes overwhelmingly sweet and grainy, but indeed with a pleasant floral note. Popcorny almost. Were it crisper, this would be exactly what I was looking for, but as it stands, I have to live with a biscuity endnote that isn't dry enough to dispel the maintaste.
I "get" the beer, but it's not for me. I want something crisper.

Pours a clear, golden yellow, with minimal white head. Smells of malt, not much else. Taste is a little bland. Sweet malt, a little bit of a floral note, and seems a hint of butter. Lighter body. Overall, not bad, but not something I'd want to grab again.

12 oz bottle poured into nonic pint best by of 11/17

A: nice head settles to a Nothing. Body is a gold color with great clarity.

S: green apple musty a little grain a little buttery

T: nice touches of floral hops mixed in with a buttery grainy green apply flavor.

M: Medium bodied good feel clean finish decent carbonation.

O: you can see this is the predesessor to High Life. I think there might be a decent beer here but I feel like mine might be a touch light struck. It's still not a bad beer.
