This is a little diamond in the rough. I stopped in after flying into Midway and was not disappointed. It looks like a little hole in the wall and is pretty small, but the selection is very good. Lots of good local stuff from Chicago breweries as well as some really nice selections from other national distro breweries.

My favorite liquor store. Hands down. I work nearby a couple of times a month and always stop in to see what's new - even though I already know what's there via their website,
"fresh report" email, frequently updated social media, and beer menus. Management and staff are all knowledgeable and very helpful, but they let you peruse the store without being aggressive. They have plenty to choose from - they don't have everything - but they always have an exceptional selection of beer, including rarities and 'whales'. One of my favorite things about Archer is that almost all of their beer can be purchased as a single bottle. I love to mix it up frequently & try new beers, but I also love to go back to beers I love without having to commit to a 4/6 pack at a time, so this is perfect for my purchasing habits. Another huge accolade is that they ship beer. They also carry a small amount of home brew equipment and ingredients - but it's very limited.

This is my go to spot for trying any new beer. What sets this place apart from others is that you can buy a single of any craft beer in the store. This a great way to try some of the pricier 4/6 packs without going broke.

Their beer prices are always very fair and most of the time lower than other places in the city.

This is a solid spot if you ever find yourself in the southside or near Midway airport.

Archer Liquors is a very good craft beer shop by Midway airport. I stopped by based on the BA reviews.

I was looking for something I couldn't get back in NC and managed to find some FFF Dreadnaught when no one else (including the brewery) had bottles for sale. They have a good selection of American and European in six packs and larger single bottles.

This is a pretty typical liquor store from a decor perspective. The atmosphere is nothing special but that doesn't detract from what they do.

I would definitely recommend this place. It was well worth the stop.

I made a few purchases online from Archer Liquors and all went great. They package mixed boxes on occasion and make limited quantities available, I was able to get a FFF mix pack which was great. You have to be part of their email list to be made aware of the packages available for purchase. You reserve your box through a quick online survey and they will contact you back to finalize payment. I got called back within an hour to wrap up my purchase. Save & quick shipping with good service. I was happy with the pricing as well. Check them out when you get the chance.

This store is about two miles from the hotel I'm staying at on a trip to Chicago, and is almost directly across the street from Midway airport. I stopped by today to pick up a few things not available in Ohio: Allagash, New Belgium, Port, Firestone, and my first bottles of Three Floyds :)

This has the look and feel of a corner liquor store which it is- but as soon as you walk in you can tell the selection is much better than average.

Service seemed okay- shortly after I walked in I was asked if I needed help with anything, but just said I was browsing and wasn't interrupted again.

Selection was well above average, though a bit unorganized. Cases were stacked everywhere, and some single bottles were near the cases, others on shelving towards the back of the store. A great selection of bombers/750s as well. There were some refrigerators but it seemed mostly for the Bud/Miller/Coors, with a few crafts thrown in.

Overall, if I lived nearby, I would definitely be a regular, and will certainly swing by again if in the area, though I'm not sure I would go out of my way to stop if just driving through town on the freeway.

Not the largest selection of craft beers from a quantity standpoint, but from a quality standpoint? Outstanding. Stopped in for the first time last night and walked away VERY impressed. One great feature? On craft beers you can take a single out of a six pack and do some sampling. Picked up several 12 oz. bottles and bombers rated 100 on, including quite a few I have never tried. But being able to take home a single instead of a whole six pack makes me MUCH more willing to try something I haven't tried before, but am not quite sure about. This will definitely make my list of regular stores I stop at once every week or two to check out if anything new is available. They had several things I haven't seen anywhere else, so the guy who handles the beer knows his stuff extremely well.

Walked into here to create my own six pack of various craft brews. The man behind the counter was definitely helpful and very courteous to me. The selection of craft beer they have here is definitely decent, but not the biggest selection ever. They have plenty from stone brewing, dogfish head, and victory. There is definitely good quality craft beer here and the ability to mix and match any 12 oz bottle in the store is a godsend. There was also a small home brewing section with some materials for that. All in all I was happy with my random 6 pack and love that I could try 6 different beers for the price of 1 six pack. I will return here for sure if I am in the area.

This review is based on a shipping order placed by email and phone.

I thought the selection was very good being that I cannot get any of the beers available in hawaii. As far as pricing is concerned I thought very reasonable to very good, considering it would cost me an arm and a leg to fly to Chicago to pick up these brews and bring back to home. Service was excellent, emailed my order and Randy emailed me back the next day confirming order and saying when it would be ready to ship. He set up a time and day to call because of big time difference to finalize and pay for order. Everything went smoothly and was very impressed with the first class operation they run at Archer Liquors. Emailed my receipt confirming order. Shipping was very reasonable, as I had my order shipped to a friends house in Las Vegas. Randy runs a tight ship at Archer Liquors and would definitely order from them again soon. Hopefully Fedex gets off his ass.

I was first told about this place about 2 months ago and since then have probably been there about a half dozen times picking up random things.

Like previous raters the exterior doesn't have 'craft beer' written all over it and when you walk in you have to pass cases of BMC stacked to the ceiling but after that it transitions into a hidden gem of store. The store itself is pretty small but their selection is very solid and seems to grow every time I go in.

The best part of this store is they sell EVERYTHING in single form. It's a great service to those like me who homebrew and have gallons of everyday drinking beers on tap but want to pick a mix a six of random beers to review or just to pick up a few different seasonals available. The prices are a little below average and I commonly find their bomber prices a dollar or two below Binny's.

Another amazing perk and service to their customers is sometimes they will built mini verticals and sell them that way for a reasonable price. Just within the last few weeks they had a 3pk of Victory Old Horizontal (fresh, 1 year and 2 year old) for $8.99. a Bigfoot sixer (1x07,1x08,2x09,2x10) for $14.99 and a GL Blackout 4pk (07-10) for $15.99. I personally think it's an unbelievable service to your customers and gives those just getting into cellering a jumpstart on a few popular choices for only couple dollar premium. I personally picked up the Victory 3pk because I've never had that beer before and thought it $3/bottle for a mini vertical of a beer I've never had has a good choice considering fresh bottles are $2.59/each.

They are always updating their twitter and website whenever they get a new product in and informing special deals. They also do online ordering which works well from what I've heard but do not need to use that since I'm 10 minutes from the storefront.

They do have a homebrew section but from what I glanced at it was very slim, not a good selection (I didn't even see any ingredients) and I doubt sells that well. If you eliminate that the craft beer section could be expanded at least 25%. A suggestion would just to keep a small stock of homebrew stuff in the back for those who know you have it and can stop in in the event of a homebrewing emergency.

Overall a great little gem that seems to get better all the time and it's the first place I check to see if they have a new release in stock. Most of the time I don't even have to call because they will announce any new arrivals on twitter.

Stopped here the last week of December '09. Easy to drive right past the place. The area is ok and there is street parking and a lot. First impression is that it is selling a lot of cases of mass-produced beers. As you move past the first long aisle and head to the coolers, you will find a really good selection of craft beers and imports in the last two aisles before the coolers.

You will find Great Lakes, Victory, FFF, Founders, etc. Not well displayed so you need to hunt through the mixed cases for your personal treasures. The import selections are outstanding as well. You will need some time to work both sides of the aisles to hunt through the imports.

I did check out the homebrewing equipment as well. It was very limited and picked through. No extract, grain, hops. Not a homebrewing source.

Based on a shipping order by email and phone.

Found this place by searching on Google for a while. Selection on the website is very good with many beers from the East Coast and Midwest that I can't get in CA. Prices are more expensive for West Coast stuff(of course) but a little cheaper than other places I've ordered from for the rarities. I order some stuff from Three Floyds(Dreadnaught, BrooDoo, Alpha King, etc.) Shipping was about $17 and packaging was thorough(nothing broken). Overall I would say it was a good deal.

I really like this place and have told others about it. I will be ordering from here again.

Stopped in after knowing about this location due to their shipping policies. Figured it was worth a look.

Small place in a strip mall atmosphere. The beer guy (didn't get his name) was there and asked if we needed assistance. We were in the process of building a 6 pack and commented about the fine singles offerings in the cooler, about 30 totals. We whined about not having a few we sought in there. He replied we could pick from anywhere, any six pack! Apparently, all 12ozers, like their bomber counterparts, have a single bottle price in there system. This is the only liquor store in Chicagoland that I know that does this, and makes it a must stop on my mind for any seasonals or specials you want to try. The pricing is very fair, i.e. lower than most on the Dogfish singles (120, barleywine) we saw.

I got a sixer which included a bottle of Bells new Rye Stout, Bells Winter White (I believe it's a 2008 version), Tyranena Bitter Woman in the Rye, Southamptons Double White, Bells Cherry Stout, and Tyranena's Pumpkin offering. All for around $13.50. Regular beers are $1.80 each, specials 2.80 or so. All in all a great way to sample stuff you don't want to risk a 10 spot to try. Net 50 cent discount off the bottle prices for a mixed sixer. I have not tried any of these beers yet so the quality score is for the assumed freshness due to turnover. I will refine if this changes.

American selection is solid, not as good as Binny's South Loop, the mecca in my mind, with full collections of Bells, Sam Adams, Goose Island, less extensive on the Michigan side, Sierra Nevada, Lost Abbey, and Rouge. Belgian selection is small, one shelf, the beer is half in coolers, half on the floor in the back in a quite compact space. The stock room has impressive shelving for backup and shipping supply.

I don't live near here, work is somewhat nearby, but this is now a regular (quarterly) stop for me for the singles policy alone. Excellent find.

Heard about this place since I've been on this site. I live in the northwest suburbs of IL so this is a trek and what has kept me from getting out here this long. Was in Hinsdale tonight and thought I was closer than I would ever be and figured I would make a stop out here finally. Know this before you head out here, print out directions or otherwise know exactly how to get here because Archer Ave gets a bit weird and turned around on itself in places and I got a little turned around myself on the way here which made a long trip that much longer.

That being said this place is not what I was expecting but did not disappoint either. It looks like a typical macro store as others have pointed out, but the drab looks give way to a small but carefully selected set of beers to choose from. Somehow they had some New Glarus beers here, I think they are about gone after I picked up two of the last three singles. That alone was worth the price of admission. Also, prices are obscenely reasonable compared to other shops. Founders Breakfast Stout could be had for 11 bucks (perhaps because it is a bit old?) for example. Staff is very friendly as others have pointed out. Didn't get a change to meet Randy as I showed up on a Saturday night at 10pm, so I am guessing the beer guy got to go home early. If this place were not so freaking far away from me I would consider going here more often as it is nice to see such a small and well put together store in an area you would never expect to find great beers at great prices.

Based on an order by placed by email.

I emailed my order following the guidelines at their site. Randy responded to me promptly and let me know what they had in stock of what I wanted, and gave me a realistic ship date. I expected to wait longer than I did, and he shipped when he said he would. The order was well packed and there was no damage to the order.

They had a number beers that I cannot get in Iowa.

Overall a very good transaction and I will be doing business with them again. It sounds like they can get a little back-logged in orders, so keep in mind your order won't ship the next day unless you have good timing. I have no problem waiting a little longer for beers I can't get locally.

This is the best place I've found to buy beer on the south side of Chicago. It's easy to find but hard to recognize because it looks like the typical south side macro store. Inside, however, is a great selection of domestic and imported beer, with a strong emphasis on local brands.

The main guy is a big beer fan and maintains his own home grown website. He posts weekly updates on what he's got new in stock. Archer Liquors maintains a wide variety of items, including some of the harder-to-find local beers. Many of the beers are available as singles for a reasonable price.

One thing I really want to point out is this place really makes an effort to provide quality service. Places like Sams and Binnys are generally stocked with college kids who could care less if you (or your beer) are cared for properly. Everyone at Archer Liquors was friendly to me, even answering my questions on AIM before I came into the shop. All the beer I took home was well cared for and I didn't find past due beer when I was browsing.

Public Transit: The 62H bus that runs past the shop is a frequent one, but it's a long ride out here from downtown and the bus gets somewhat crowded during peak times. You'll want to take the train to Midway and make the connection from there.

This review is based on a beer shipment.

Q - They did a great job of packaging the beer to limit the possibility of the beer breaking, using a good amount of carboard to secure the beer.

S - I was informed by the owner that my order would take a few weeks to fill due to several orders ahread of mine. However, they were very quick to get my order to me regardless of how busy they were.

S - They have an impressive selection of craft beer. Three Floyds, Goose Island, Founders, Great Lakes, ect. The majority of the beer they offer is not available in my state. I love that they allow you to buy singles, and not just restricted to six packs.

V - The beer was very reasonably priced. Singles are usually around $2 which is great when making a variety pack. The shipping gets a bit pricey, but thats nothing they have control over. I will definitely order from them again.

Ok, this is a dual review. Half for me, half for a coworker.
Me: I've been to Archer numerous times on my business trips to Chicago, and refuse to go anywhere else. The store is a "blink and you miss it" place about a mile from Midway Airport, but don't let looks deceive you. Randy has built up a quality selection and even better reputation. They have a ton of Midwest brews, including FFF, Founders, Bells, Flossomor Station, Great Lakes, etc, in addition to others from around the US. Prices are very respectable and won't break the bank. Service is generally very good, and Randy is more than happy to recommend some brews if you are curious. He has even pulled something special from the back for me on one occasion. All-in-all, a must hit location in the Chicago area.
Coworker: Great service. I had been wanting some Three Floyds and placed an order for shipment. Everything went smoothly and my packages were delivered quickly. Randy even remembered that I had wanted Dreadnaught and e-mailed me the next time he got more in. I should have another package arriving today or tomorrow.

Overall: Regardless if you want to swing by in person or place an order for shipping, an exceptional place. And one of the few stores we know of that sells and ships FFF.

wide variety of beers. several that i do not have access to otherwise. i decided to give it a go. the entire process was seamless and he even contacted me to recommend options that would save me money.

he was bogged down in orders when i placed mine, so it took about two weeks from placement to receipt. no worries. shipping was expensive since im on the east coast, but that's out of his hands and due to fedex policy.

exceptional packaging. no broken bottles. skillful use of cardboard.
NO STYROFOAM PEANUTS!!! i hate those things. they get everywhere.

i imagine i will be a repeat customer.

It can be difficult to find beer on the south side of Chicago. I was expecting a good selction of Polish beers for considering the locale. And I found some excellent deals on rather hard to find Polish brews. But I was surprised to find such an assortment of Belgians, English and American Craft Brews tucked away in the back of this little liquor store. The staff was freindly and knowledgable and to top it off they have some homebrew supplies. I could not have been more impressed with this place.

Ordered from online/phone. Fast and personal. They have a lot of seasonal hard to find brews, which means theire selection is also rather seasonal. Excellent selection of stuff I can no longer get now that I live in North Carolina. Some I can pick up when I visit Michigan for the holidays, but it doesn't last all year so this place can get me through. Some I can't find period, like the Three Floyds I can't find anywere I go. Prices are fine, I get bit by the shipping costs, but its worth it. Easier than trading, since in NC I don't have much I can get easily or regularly that anyone else would want to trade with.

I placed an order with Archer to obtain some Three Floyds brews which I have not been able to try yet. While my order did not get out immediately it is completely understandable since I ordered right before Thanksgiving and they were backed up a bit. I was able to alter my order twice when I saw some other things I wanted to purchase with no problems at all. My order went out on the 3rd and I received it on the 5th. Excellent. Everything was packaged great and everything came in order. A pleasure to do business with them and will order from them again in the future.

This place wasn't anything like I was expecting. Turns out it's a normal sized store but the area for beer is really really small. They have a selection of some Belgium's and European beers and although the area is small, they are all well thought out and of high quality. The American selection is almost all bombers and although small, is again well thought out.

The prices seem online with everyone else around the area. I think my usual beer store (Dobby's in Palatine) is a bit cheaper but considering the area, I think that's expected. There was a guy working one of the times I went who was stocking beer and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was making chit chat about some brews and definitely enjoyed what he was talking about.

If you're just coming into town from Midway this is your place. It's only about a mile down and easy to get to. Just wish they had more to choose from but otherwise a nice stop.
