Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Trestles is in the style of an American IPA. 2-row malt and imported light crystal malt create the nice color and clean finish. We use CTZ and Chinook hops in this beer following it up with a dry hop of Simcoe and Centennial in the fermenter bringing out a citrus aroma. Trestles IPA is light bodied, clean and pleasantly hoppy.

A quarter inch plus biscuity off white to tan froth covers a honey golden colored beer that seems rather thick looking for an IPA. With a bit of lacing remaining as the level of beer recedes I was impressed with the look and feel of this beer.
An aroma consisting of many parts without a single aspect taking over reminded me of what the Trappist Monks achieve with their beers.
All this wonderful build up and the taste was a bit of a let down, although not bad it just doesn't seem to live up to the aroma and pleasing appearance. Having said that and this beer is being sold as an IPA, the hops in the taste was lacking and must have given way to the the other ingredients used. With a dryish and drying aftertaste it seems they used enough hops to achieve the desired aftertaste with it not coming through as well in the taste.
One good thing about the taste of this beer and any beer is the lack of that soapiness in the taste and there seems to be a lot of going around in IPA's these days.

Pours light copper with a thin white head. Stopped pouring right near the end to avoid pouring the shallow sediment. Lightly hazy as characterized by the style

A refreshing fruity smell, with some definite roasted malt characteristics. Particularly sweet yet mellow.

Crisp and smooth flavor. Doesn't seem to go overboard with the hops or the gravity, well balanced. Slightly floral, but not too much. Mildly dry finish and quite drinkable to my taste. Balance is a word I'll use again.

Just right for the mouthfeel. Smooth but not flat.

While I can't say a whole lot about its uniqueness, it's so well rounded I can't help but really enjoy it. None of the hop bitterness which sometimes bites at the sides of the tongue, yet plenty of tasty hop flavor. Quite nice.

This one is somewhere between dark yellow and pale orange with a wispy whitish head that hold up a creamy island that drops more than adequate spotting and a bit of patching as well.
Aromatics are nice but a little tough to pull out. There's a sturdy happiness with malts to balance going fairly sweet, lots of caramel and leaf to the bitterness.
The flavor follows suit though a little more strongly, particularly as the hops impart some herbal notes and a touch of mint along with orange peel and even a bit of evergreen sap, while malts put in a hint of sugar and breads with the caramel.
The body is medium, a consistent carbonation lending itself to a crispness that never fades alongside a nice smoothness.
