I had this spiced pale ale on tap in le Rimbaud, Clermont-Ferrand. This is quite sweet and cloying. The malt base is prohiminent, the carbonation is high

A: dark amber colour, thin white head, slight haze, a lot of debris in the beer.

S: apple, pear, hints of caramel, rock candy, some grains in the end

T: once again apple, caramel, malts grains, bread and alcohol in the finish

M: too thin, slightly undercarbonated

O: not a bad beer, quite complex both in taste and smell, but not the pleasant beer in your mouth

A nice hazy golden colour, a white head that goes away quickly.

Smells a bit tripel like with doughy malts, light fruits and spice but this is pretty damn spicy. It has spices (and sugar) added so this was expected. Doesn't smell unpleasant. Good actually.

Tastes different. Sweet with a light maltiness and again the light fruits and spice.

The mouthfeel is medium and well carbonated.

Overall a good, tasty beer.

A: The beer is hazy yellowish amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation along with small particles visible floating in suspension. It poured with a thin white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface, a collar around the edge and a bit of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of apple cider, spices, yeast and candi sugars are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but is a little more complex with additional flavors of, caramel, figs, honey and sweetness. No alcohol is perceptible.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and a little smooth on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The use of seven different types of malts in this beer lends for a very interesting and complex taste.

An orange copper beer with a lot of yeast particles floating in the beer. The head is settling very fast.

Smell is light with some fruitiness, there are herbal and minty smells that are subtle but interesting.

The taste is pretty different, the apparent herbs give the beer a nice gruut/ginger taste which has a light phenolic taste. The body of the beer is light and the beer is very drinkable. The herbs addition is subtle, but determine the taste of the beer. Bitterness is very low. The 7% alcohol is very well blended in the beer.

A - A yellow/pink hazy fluid with a two finger big head that slowly retracts into a good layer. Exceptional. No visible carbonation.

S - Citrus, yeast and alcohol spiced with a touch of coriander.

T - A mix of candy sugar, hops, malts, yeast and some hints of lemon which gives the beer a fresh taste. There is also a metallic taste in the middle pallet.

M - A highly carbonated fluid that feels creamy at the same time, not bad, not bad at all, but the body is a bit to watery. Some extra flavors would have helped this beer.

O - Not a bad beer on a warm day but if I can get something else... I tried it once and I am thinking of leaving it that way.

33 cl bottle poured into tulip.

Pours a murky/cloudy gold with a big head of mostly air. The head quickly subsided to a slight lace on top of the beer. Lots of sediment floated throughout.

The nose is full of sour cherries, phenols, cloves, and spicy Belgian yeasts.

The taste is full and rich, but not as fruity as I anticipated. Despite a long, bitter finish, the mouth itself is hoppy but not bitter.

Overall, this tastes pretty much like a generic Belgian blonde with little unique character. It is very drinkable, though, and too its credit, there is a pleasantly light mouth with no syrup that does little to reveal the high ABV.

Brown 25cl bottle obtained in Calais on the way home from a Belgian and French beer buying expedition. Best before 18 March 2011, drank and reviewed on 2 Nov 2010.

Poured carefully into my 'La Chouffe' stemmed tulip. I somehow allowed a little amount of sediment into the glass, clouded the body though.

The body was a dark amber and misty in appearance, very thin covering of bubbles and collar round the glass.

The smell was of apples and oranges at first, spiced with mace and a honey like semi-sweet hint, strangely also giving it a sour feel too.

The taste was also fruity with sour and semi-sweet notes, again honey came to mind.

An interesting beer and one I'd gladly have again, the 7%ABV is noticeable but doesn't intrude into the flavours greatly. Easy to drink and certainly worth trying if you ever get the chance.

My girlfriend's folks brought me a selection of beers from Brittany and this was definitely my favourite. It's pours a murky, unfiltered orange/copper colour. The head is decent to begin with but evaporates quickly without leaving any lacing. The carbonation, though, is good and strong without being overwhelming and the taste is lovely and mellow: a sweet spiciness blended with a Belgian ale style yeasty vibe. Very drinkable despite its strength. I also like the ecclesiastical iconography on the label. All in all a pleasant introduction to beers from a region I'm not familiar with (beer-wise anyway).

Unique beer worth a try. Yellow coloured body with lots of white foam. A bit ighter mouthfeel. A substantive foamer, and then lots and lots of black pieces, rather floaties. COrriander, oats, pumpernickel and rye. Yeast n the finish. Decent drinkability, but a sipper.

Live review:
I brought back this bottle from Paris after stopping into La Cave a Bulles. Simon, the shop owner, recommended this beer.

Prying off the cap, there was a resounding hiss so I know it is well carbonated. I pour into a clean mug and the head steadily climbs with the filling beer to form a three finger width head of white. The white head reminds me of what Sprite would look like, accept that this head sticks around as a thin white barrier across the top of the beer. The fluid itself is a lovely clear darkish yellow. Very clear, as a matter of fact. I did my best not to let the yeast fall into the glass, but a few small particles reside in suspension.

The smell with the initial pour is quite nice. There are notes of Belgian candy sugar, citrus peel, and possibly coriander. As the head settles, though, the intensity drops off with notes of yeasty fresh baked bread and a slight caramelly note. I also detect a faint sense of mustiness. It is still very pleasant.

The taste reminds me of fresh baked whole wheat bread with a slight sweetness at the finish. There are notes of wheat, orange peel, fennel seed, and possibly cloves. There is definitely some spice going on in here. The finish is medium dry and crisp. Up to here the taste is pleasant but it goes down hill with the lingering aftertaste dominated by hot alcohol. I was gonna give it a 4, but I am docking it to 3.5.

The mouthfeel is a bit shy of medium, but with good carbonation which suits this beer.

Drinkability would be higher if not for the crazy hot finish and aftertaste as I found it very sessionable to begin with.

Bottle: Poured a medium amber color ale with a quite large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of grain with a bready yeast that is quite dominant. Taste is also dominated by loads of grain and fresh cereal with a bready yeast and minimal hops. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no signs of the alcohol. I really enjoyed the cereal taste but would have wished a more discreet yeast strain.

750 mL brown bottle.

Slightly hazy amber brew with a thin white head.

Spicy clove aroma with faint notes of banana/tropical fruit.

Starts off sweet and bready with a bit of fruit. Slightly tart towards the end with some grassy hops. Lots of spiciness throughout. Silky body with moderate carbonation.

A: Pours a golden orange with bright yellow highlights around the edges. Head rapidly disappears leaving almost no lacing. A somewhat disappointing appearance for a beer that touts itself as complex. Light amounts of sediment in the bottom of the glass

N: Nose is interesting yet subtle, containing a lot of malt profile, stemming from the 7 types of grain used in the brewing process; barley, wheat, rye, buckwheat, with spelt, millet and oats providing and interesting spicy nose. Slight vegetal sweetness and spicy alcohol present

T: Somewhat like a belgian style tripel, yet without the oomph that many provide. Big notes of grain, breadiness, including pumpernickel sweetness and rye spice, yet still dominated by malted barley. Touches of spice, including pepper, coriander and hints of caraway

M: Relatively full bodied, with very light carbonation, not a particularly thrilling feel

Pours medium light cooper, almost orange. Good head, dissipates down to a thin film, some lace.

Aroma reminds me of a small brewery we have here called Schoune. All the beers they have share this same aroma, I'm guessing its the yeast. Some spice (pepper, hints of caraway) and some belgian triple-esque aromas in there (unrefined sugar and esters from the yeast).

Flavor, there something realy unique and nice about this one, maybe its the unusual malts. Interesting spicy notes to it, quite complex. A delicate fruity sweetness lingers for a while (pears and plum) then it finished bone dry, leaving you with a desire for another sip.
