Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine April 2007.

Australia is full of beer surprises at the moment. Brewed back in October 2006, Redoak is apparently the first brewery in Oz to brew this style.

Out of the bottle and into the glass, a rich, dark, copper colored beer with a fizzy, short-lived head. Spritzy, lively carbonation that's a bit foamy on the palate. Aromas of mild banana bread and spicy alcohol. Full bodied, smooth, thick-ish and a bit chewy on the palate, with a great malty feel. Big, sweet, banana characters come in and change that quickly with mild clove and spices. Some green banana pith tucked around the corners, too. Mild bourbon-esque vanilla and a hot, spicy, warming alcohol. Things get sweeter as the beer warms. Banana bread-like. Lingering sweetness in the finish.

Not as well crafted as German examples, but for a first attempt, not too bad. The alcohol is a bit hot and could use some reigning in, the sweetness is border- line cloying, and we'd like to see that banana toned down just a bit with more malt complexity. Other than that, definitely worth a try.
