On tap at the bar.

Served into a suitable Redoak branded Weizen glass, it poured a very pleasant clear lemon yellow colour, quite bright, with a rocky and foamy head of white. Strong carbonation and a pleasantly light body. All good hallmarks of a good Kristalweizen.

Light wheaty characters on the nose giving a slight hint of acidity, with some loose and lightly sharp phenols. Minimal spice, and not a lot of depth. Eh, it's a reasonable nose for a Kristal, but you need more to make it really interesting.

Taste is definitely sour, moreso than you'd expect from the wheat in fermentation - indeed it almost tastes infected, whether intentionally or not, but the acidity tears away all the other characters, except a very faint crystal malt sweetness. Feel is light, suitable enough for the style, but it doesn't have the correct flavours to work with.

No, there was something quite unappealing about this beer. I left a large portion of it untouched in my glass as I left. Kristalweizen in my mind can be a wonderful style that is often overlooked for Hefes, but this is a poor standard bearer.
