Interestingly shaped 355 ml brown bottle.

It pours a hazy dark rose color and it STRUGGLES to form a head.

The smell is of luden's, which I enjoy.

The flavor is super syrupy and thick with a cherry candy flavor. There is very little carbonation, it just feels like syrup.

There are better fruit beers.

Appearance: Dark reddish brown - looks like cherry juice with a small white head

Aroma: Heavy on the cherry. Smells like cherry juice, no alcohol notes noticeable

Taste: Very deep cherry flavor. Sweet, but not cloying or overpowering. No alcohol notes at all. Basically tastes like a cherry lambic would.

Mouthfeel: Definitely can feel a bite of carbonation. Medium body in the mouth.

Drinkability: Yes and no. It tastes great and it's easy to get through the bottle, but I just can't see myself putting down more than one of these - it'd be like drinking several glasses of straight cherry juice. I think the taste and sweetness would become too much.

Notes: Tastes remarkably similar to Samuel Smith's Cherry Fruit Ale

I saw this and my wife went "hey, I might like that!", so naturally I had to get a single of this one. She was right, it's the only beer she's ever tasted that I bought that actually agreed with her.

Poured into a pint glass.

A: deep ruby red. light head and minimal lacing. Cherry bits floating about 1/8 of the way down the glass, settling in nicely.

S: smells, like...BITTER CHERRY COKE!!! Bitter cherry very prevalent, not much else discernable. I like the smell, reminds me of what cherry coke could be with an adult palate.

T: Not overly carbonated. semi-sweet feeling leads to a strangely dry palate for such a fruity smelling beer. Nice and refreshing, actually.

M: dry puckery finish, due to what I think is the bitter cherries. Lasts quite a while. Kinda thin.

D: Not something I would recommend more than one of, but that is on par with pretty much every other fruit beer. Bitterness gets a bit heady near the end of the glass.

Overall, a good example of fruit beer that doesn't end up like cough syrup. Good enough for one once in a while.

Enjoyed after a day at the beach w/ scoobs, stew, + his crew (Page is a hotty!) .. . Pours a dark ruby colour with a medium full head, has a real quality lacing factor also .. . Smell is of sweet kids cherry juice and fresh pressed cherries+ dark cherry skins, some cherry brandy too ( The best flavor comparison would actually be a cherry fizz lollipop, the one with that fizzy shit in the middle..) .. .. Loaded with flavour: albeit not that complex, very clean and sweet, still a sweeter juice added lambic but damn enjoyable .. . .. Not for the serious Belgian kriek fan, but fuckin tasty and i enjoyed it... 34° 45′ 54″ S, 70° 17′ 11″ W

P- Market Cross Pub in Carlisle

A- a dark ruby redpour that has cherry highlites. A weak cherry colored head that runs off my brew pretty quick. Somewhat opaque.

S- cherry tartness blasts mein the nose and shoots to my mouth and smells great. i can smell some other hints of things but i cant distinguish because of the cherry.

T- cherry juice and a lil bit of alcohol. It isnt high in alcohol content but you get hints of it as you keep drinking.

M-viscous and syrupy. It feels smooth though however and goes down with ease.

D- This is a good beer to pound back. The cherry tartness might hinder more than 3 or4 but a nice easy brew.

Appearance: Dark ruby red around edges becoming violet towards center. Very little carbonation. No lasting head...A decent amount of lacing as you drink. A lot of fine sand sized particle floating evenly throughout...

Smell: Very strong cherry upfront, you can almost smell the tartness...Hints of lemon also come through..Very pleasant smelling..

Taste: Abundance of cherries and fruity tartness...slight bitterness as well. Very sweet too but not overpowering. Slight strawberry flavor too...surprising amount of complexity for a fruit beer.

Mouthfeel: Very crisp, tartness and sweetness are enhanced as you let the beer wander. A strong sense of carbonation becomes present contrary to the appearance...

Drinkability: Very very high, wow is there any alcohol in this? I know its quite low, but its virtually in detectable...Very sessionable...A bit pricey but will buy again!

Appearance- Pours out a deep clear ruby with a hint of amber. Very clear, but a high refractive incidence. The head is a foamy, light pink concoction that has some staying power, and good lacing.

Aroma- Strong smell of sweet cherries. Smells great, and very inviting.

Taste- Strong taste of fairly sweet cherries up front, with a nice but harsh almond bitterness in the aft of the mouth. slightly tart. Just the slightest hint of pale malt in the background.

Mouthfeel- Light body. Good carbonation.

Drinkability- I like it, but I like cherry flavored beers, and can't tell the difference between real cherries and juice. If you are into cherry lambics, this one is decent.

A- Pours a strong ruby color with a small pink head that dissipates to the sides of the glass. Little stuff appearing like cherry bits floating around. Leaves some small lacing as you drink.

S- The smell is off the charts strong cherry. No mistake about it.

T- Tastes like cherry sprite with some small malts and bitter hops mixed in. Very sweet and no sour notes. The dried cherry flavor is very strong on the drink and the finish.

M- well carbonated with tiny bubbles that makes the mouthfeel like champagne.

D- Assuming drinkability is a measure of how much you would like another round after the first one, this one is low. I don't see myself drinking more than one per.

Not typically what i think of when the word "beer" comes to mind.

That said, I do appreciate the stlye and the unique ingredients and process in making this beer, even though its not technically a lambic. You're paying for that uniqueness instead of booze, unlike most beers at this price point. This is an expensive beer in my world.

Reviewed 10/8/2005 (bottle):

My first beer rating. A nice, rich looking pour, deep red color with very fizzy pink head. Has a medium body. Taste has a bitter finish. I like cherries, but this was too tart for me. But this is my first lambic fruit beer, so maybe I was expecting something else.

Pours brown redish color with pink head. Really nice smell of fresh cherries. Nothing but cherries. Tastes like sour cherries. Kinda weird tatse, but it's not bad. It's just something you wouldn't expect from beer. It's different. Moutfeel - it carbonated, actually even a bit overcarbonated. It's pretty drinkable, as it's really light and fruity. Interesting beer.

12oz bottle poured into a Lindeman's glass

smells like malty, syrupy cherry

tastes tart and dry with a sour finish; nice cherry flavor

low alcohol in carbonation make this a very light tasting beer that is easy to drink

Pours into my 25cl tulip glass with a pale pink colored head. The beer is dark cherry color that shows an almost clear, bright red color when held up to the light. This is clearly a cherry beer as the aroma of candied cherries jumps out of my glass without me even trying to smell the beer. A deeper inspection of the aroma yield nothing else but cherry, though perhaps there is a touch of something like play-doh.

The taste is not quite as sweet as the aroma would suggest, but it is definitely sweet. Cherry flavors are clearly the most prominent note here and that very faint play-doh note continues to be just noticeable in the flavor too. I am really having a hard time tasting anything but cherry flavors, this is very one dimensional. Because it is sweet, it definitely has a fuller body to it and there is a tannic character to it (sort of like cherry skins) that seems to boost the mouthfeel as well.

More like a cherry soda than anything, you would never be able to guess that there is a spontaneously fermented beer under here, and that is quite a shame. Not bad, just not really beer.

What a great little beer. A lot of people turn their noses to fruit-flavored brews, but not me. I think it's fun to stray off the path every now and then. This beer is pretty much just hard cherry juice. Cherries dominate the smell and taste, and there's very little bitterness or hoppiness you'd expect from a beer. Certainly not an everyday drink, as it's sweet as hell, but if you want to impress some friends with something really different, look no further.

Pours out a deep garnet hue, with a fizzy pink head like cream soda.

Aroma is a cross between preserved cherries, and cherry Nibs licorice--all in all comforting in a curious way.

Yup, more cherry in the flavour, and still riding the fence between real and faux varieties. A hint of pale malt can be discerned holding up this big red facade of flavour.

Mouthfeel is mostly carbonation, which lends to the perception of drinking pop.

You know, it'd make an okay dessert beer, or something to phase in once at some point on a hot day on the patio or barbecuing. Just one though, no more, no less.

This is pretty similiar to the Strawberry version by the Melbourn Bros. A reddish/copper color w/ little head that dies quickly and no lacings. The smell is not overtly cherry, unlike the immense strawberry smell in that brew, but it is noticeable with a sharp tartness. The cherry taste isn't quite up to snuff and the brew comes across a little like a cherry soda with a rough edge, but it is still a smooth drink. Not much reaason to drink this, especially at $7 a pop and the fact that the Strawberry is a much better option in my opinion.

Pours clear, bright red with a pink head. Lots of carbonation. Nose is full of highly sweet cherry - syrup, marascinnos, cherry cough medicine. The rest is tart smelling, nothing else. Taste is similar, lots of sweet and tart fruit, mostly a syrupy sweet cherry with some apple and apricot notes. Sticky mouthfeel despite moderately high carbonation. Tasty, tart but very hard to drink much because of how sweet and cloying it is. Very balanced to sweet and tart fruit.

This was hard to rate, because it hardly resembles beer in any way. That being said, pours to a dark cherry color with thin pink head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a very strong and pleasant cherry, and the mouthfeel is full of carbonation. Flavor follows the nose perfectly, with a blast of cherry that is sweet, yet not sickening. Finsih is again sweet, but not too much. If I had not poured this myself, I could would have thought it was a cherry cola, especially since the 3.4% abv keeps itself well hidden.

Not what I would consider a "beer", but a truly enjoyable drink.

12 oz. brown bottle poured into pint glass. I find no dating on the bottle. I've tried the apricot Melbourn Bros. years ago and enjoyed it. A local beer store lowered the price from $5.25 to $1.89 a bottle because these weren't moving. I was a little suspect, so I purchased just one bottle. After trying this, I went back and bought six more.

Appearance: watered down cherry cough syrup colored red body with a pink creamy head that disappears and leaves very sticky lacing. Bits of dark debris hang in suspension.

Smell: there's no doubt that this is cherry. Big time sweet, tart and tangy bing cherries.

Taste: flavors match scents when tangy, sweet cherries meet bittering hops and a distant flavor of wheat husks and cinnamon.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer is lightened up with bubbly carbonation and tangy mouthfeel. Bitter hops sit on my tongue.

Drinkability: more than two bottles of this and I'm afraid of overdoing the cherry thing. Looking for a low alcohol, fruit flavored beer and this is it. Nice and different.

Melbourn Bros. Cherry pours a deep, dark, cherry red with a pink head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. I love the smell, cherries, and not in an artificial flavoring type of way, but in a rich, amazing fashion. It's not all sweet like I feared, there is definitely a strong sour component too. Like all of the Melbourn Bros. beers, it's quite sweet. There is a strong sour flavor that balances it pretty nicely, but all of their beers are quite sweet. It hardly resembles beer as I usually think of it, but they really nail the fruit flavors, which a lot of brewers just can't seem to do. If you like their stuff you'll like this one, it's my favorite of the three by far. If you don't like the other ones, you probably wont like this one either. Outstanding in my opinion.

12oz. bottle

Pours a clear, ruby red color with a frothy pink head that thins. Thick lacing on the glass.

Very tangy and tart cherry aroma.

Very tart cherry flavor with a dry finish. Just what a lambic should be.

Medium-light body, zippy carbonation.

Another tasty "lambic" from Melbourn Bros. Thirst quenching and puckeringly good, it's a pleasure to drink.

Picked this one up for the wife and ended up drinking it myself.

A: Pours a nice deep red color kind of red wine looking. It has a small fizzy light pink head that is very lively. There are also some floaters which I really look forward to.

S: Nice tart cherries with sugar added. Kind of reminds me of a cherry tart which happens to be one of my favorite desserts.

T: Very nice. There is a nice cherry tartness with a very sweet backbone. It is a really nice tasting beer that could serve as a dessert.

M: Light and bubbly like an old time cherry soda.

D: It's a single bottle beer, but a nice sweet treat.

Overall: I have recently gotten to like these types of beers and this is a good example. If you don't mind a sweet brew, almost soda like this would be a good one for you. The alcohol is low and the taste is big. Give it a shot, move away from the traditional brews and give this one a go. I am going to try their other two versions Strawberry and Apricot and you should too.

Similar to the appricot and strawberry beers, only with cherries this time. There are a lot of one-dimensional fruit flavors, and little beer character. Rich, bold cherrys jump out at the nose, taking on deep, ripe (perhaps over-ripe), tart, and lightly soured aromas. A firm hint of woodiness and must intermingles with the fruits and sweetness. The beer looks very deeply maroon (cherry colored) with shards of black yeast sediments in suspension. Basically no head retention and very light on the carbonation. The flavors are all about the cherries, with litttle-to-no barley malt noticed in taste or body. The wood / must qualities pronounce more heavily in the taste than in flavors. The cherry flavors hinge on artificial flavors at times. The feel is moderate, because of the fruit dosage and little because of malt or dextrins. Finishes thin, slightly tart, with a cherry soda-pop resisual sweetness. Tasty, but I prefer more beer in my beer.

Pours a dark cherry red in color with a pinkish head. The aroma is full of sweet and tart cherries. Taste is very similar to the nose in that it is all about the tart cherries that finishes dry. Overall, I think this is a pretty solid fruit beer that is worth having again. One of the major drawbacks is that it is extremely pricey.
