Melbourn Bros. Strawberry pours a reddish color with a white head from a custom twelve ounce bottle. The strawberry aroma is noticeable from the moment you pop the cap. Holding the glass to my nose gives a very intense strawberry aroma. Wow, this is incredibly sweet for a beer, but there is a bit more than that going on.. The strawberry flavor cannot be denied, but it's not solely sweet, there is some tartness and possibly even a touch of funk. This is a difficult beer to rate, I imagine the brewer is hitting the nail on the head of what they are trying to achieve, but I can't honestly say this is something that I would really want to drink by itself again, even though I think the quality is quite high. This could easily be used in preparation of a dessert.

Melbourn Bothers Strawberry beer pours two stiff fingers of foam
over a cloudly orangy brew. There's not a lot of carbonation and the
nose is sweet strawberry jelly. The flavor is tart strawberry over English
malts, with salt, citrus, and medicinal notes and a slight herbal hop finish
for balance. The mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing. Not exactly a true
lambic yet not as sweet as some I've had. There's something really drinkable
here. This could be a good choice for a breakfast beer. Really tasty, and
pretty adventurous considering it's an English brewer making the stuff.

Appearance: Pours a hazy pink-tinged rust color with a head that fizzes out like soda and leaves no lacing

Smell: Smells like thawed frozen strawberries - I don't mean that negatively

Taste: Starts out with a sweet/tart strawberry flavor, but the sweetness is so overpowering it overwhelms the tart flavors by mid-palate and after the swallow

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Too sweet to drink alone - might be good with some ice cream

I seem to really be going for these strawberry beers this summer. This one surprised me a bit. Opens with a fizzy, deep ruby color, and qute clear. Aromas on straberry cola with a firm tartness (kinda lambic-like). Quite sweet and moderately malty flavor is taken by strawberry syrup flavors. Body is a bit more full than expected with a moderate bready base. Remaining fizzy into the finish with an emphasis on sweet strawberry (artificial) flavor and increasing tartness. A good taste, but somewhat un-beer like.

Rose color. Not much head.

Smell is fruity , no hops or malt are evident.

Taste is predominately strawberry, some residual sweetness.

Mouthfeel is medium , tangy aftertaste. Good carbonation.

Drinkability suffers a bit, with the sweetness and lack of beer tastes. Overall an interesting beer, somewhat of a wine cooler.

This beer poured a cloudy copper color with a thick rocky head that lasted a while. The smell is strong of strawberry. The taste is sweet and fruity (strawberry) with some malt noticeable. There isn’t much of a hop flavor detectable. The mouthfeel is medium. This is a good example of a fruit beer which would be quite drinkable to those that like the style (or strawberries).

12 oz bottle.

Pours a glowing reddish-brown. Decent head, especially for a fruit beer.
Strawberry extract is a little too artificial for my taste, didn't taste exactly like fresh strawberries to me. Slightly tart in the finish..

Tons of carbonation.. makes the body more like strawberry soda than strawberry beer. Overall, it's certainly not bad. The strawberry flavor is satisfying enough, but in my opinion it's not nearly worth the $4.99 I paid for one bottle.

12oz. bottle

Pours a clear reddish color with a creamy light pink head that thins. Thick lacing on the glass.

Aroma of fresh sweet strawberries with a light tartness. I think I catch a hint of hops now and again.

Taste is a burst of fresh, sweet strawberries upfront that leads into a mild bitterness and puckering tartness. Leaves my mouth watering and wanting another sip.

Medium body, mild carbonation.

Very tasty and drinkable fruit beer, would be labeled a lambic if brewed in a different geographic location. If you enjoy this style, look for this one.

A: Orange amber color with obvious strawberry highlights. The medium sized head even is tinted a strawberry pink.

S: Strawberry candy, caramel, a little vanilla and wheat.

T: Strawberry is the theme as it should be. The flavor is actually very much real and not fake like a soda might be. Its a medium strawberry taste, not too tart or pungent like fermented strawberries can become. You can tell this beer is English, has the trademark limestone taste to it. Balanced with lemon juice that adds a necessary bite. Finishes sweet and tangy. Not a lot of malt character here.

M: Thin body, somewhat hard but fitting for the style.

D: As far as fruit beers go, this beer doesn't suck. The is one of the best non Belgian style fruit beers on the market.

355ml bottle

Pours with a rich syrupy ruby body, thick pinky white head with good retention.

Smell, fresh strawberries, some fruity esters. Lots of strawberry sweet aromas, mixed berries. Theres a certain almost yogurty creaminess too

Taste, smooth and fizzy strawberries, syrupy mouthfeel. A fair whack of sweetness but not overpowering, some slight tartness on the finish

Another tasty dessert beer from the Melbourne Bros brewery

Melbourn Brothers Strawberry
12 oz bottle
Medium pour in a tulip glass
Recent bottling (?), fielded forever 11/06

Poured a hazy ruddy brown, the color of browned strawberries, with a large mostly lasting beige head.

Smelt of strong strawberries and apple juice.

Taste was upfront strong sweet and sour strawberries and spicy cloves followed by a strong sweet and sour brown strawberries and moderate yellow cake dessert feel on a long cloying sweet finish. Palate was medium to full bodied, syrupy, lively carbonated, and cloyingly sweet.

Overall, its feels like sparkling strawberry juice, or the taste of semi sweet thawed freezer burnt strawberries.

Melbourn's makes a very tasty strawberry beer. The fruit flavor and aroma is dominant. I really enjoy the unique aroma of that reminds me of real fruit unprepared and al ittle dirty. I find the finish a bit dry and the beer flavor is rather one dimensional. The finish is rahter dry for a fruit beer but this kinda nice as you are left wanting more. There are some fermentation characters coming through but not like the belgians. Don't get me wrong this a fine beverage and I enjoy it about once a month. (My wife likes it too.)

(Served in a tulip glass)

A- This beer has a dark shoe polish brown body with a white thin head that fades after a bit.

S- The smell of homemade strawberry jam is strong and dominates the smell even during the pour.

T- The first flavor is strawberry jam with a faint tart cherry hint in the background. The finish is a sweet jam note with a carbonic bite.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a dry finish.

D- This is all about the strawberries and the sweetness upfront and dryness in the finish balance a bit. It would be nice to have a bit more malt or alcohol flavors to contrast the berries. I like deserts and fruit so this was not bad for both and I like jam.

Aroma: Sweet Tart Strawberry Jolly Rancher Candy with hints of watermelon. Slight Horse Blanket/Barnyard with hints of Pale Malt.

Appearance: Clear Orangish Reddish Pink with a faint Pinkish White Head.

Flavor: Tart, Barnyard/Horse blanket Balanced with Pale Malts and a delicate Strawberry flavor and aged hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-Light Body, Medium Carbonation.

Overall Impression: A wonderful Spontaneous Fermented Beer (Beer that is exposed to the surrounding open air to allow natural/wild yeast and bacteria to literally infect the beer). Basically tastes like a Belgian Lambic that is balanced with a perfect strawberry flavor. If you aren't a beer connoisseur you would probably think this was a wine cooler.

I like this a bit better than the cherry beer. Light amberish-pink colour with a fluffy, faint pink head. Smells like slightly off sweet strawberries, with some malts and hop bitterness. Not entirely unpleasant.

Sweet, slightly tart taste. Strawberry, pale malts and a bit of hops. Fruit flavours dominate.

Good mouthfeel, decent carbonation. Best served chilled, great with dinner or dessert.

Pours amber, almost reddish... with nil head. Smell and taste are both very much strawberry, very tart and very sweet. I swear I detected the smallest amount of hops (and maybe even barley), maybe it was my mind playing tricks on me, but it seemed like there was a touch of a green flavor in a couple of sips. That, and the very high level of carbonation was the only thing that made this seperated this from a wine cooler. Compared to a wine cooler, I would pick this 10 for 10. Compared to nearly any other beer on the planet, I would take a regular beer 99 out of 100. That being said, they hit the mark on the given style for sure.

Orange haze to rich red amber color. Pretty nonexistant head, more like the kind you get from pouring champagne or sparkling wine. Very carbonated, felt more like drinking soda than a beer. Slight taste of bitter lingers in mouth, I found it to be quite pleasant. Great for dessert, very light and refreshing. First time tasting this kind of beer, very satisfying.

Appearance: Pours with very little head, no lacing left as the head quickly dissipates. Color is a surprisingly clear red-orange.

Smell: Strawberry jam on toast. Much less sweet smelling than a belgian lambic, actually quite pleasant.

Taste: Tangy with a very fast pucker factor. Bitter on the back of the mouth, not very good while in the mouth. The aftertaste is quite pleasant, like a not too sweet strawberry jam. However, the initial shock isn't worth the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Acidic, leaves the mouth coated in mucous. Not horrid, not great.

Drinkability: Pretty low. I'd rather take one sip and have no more than keep drinking. The aftertaste being so much better than the actual taste, it's hard to want to keep drinking this.

This being my first review bear with me as I hopefully get better at this. :)

Appearance : Nice Head but it doesn't stay long, Reddish Orange in color so far it's a very pretty beer. Then some nice lacing to top it all off.

Smell : Very very berry. Reminds me of Strawberry Jam or fruit roll ups. The normal set of beer smells are overpowered by the sheer amount of berry on this one.

Taste : Kinda tart almost sour. Nice subtle sweetness. Acidic notes are present. A nice change of pace.

Mouthfeel : Dry .. reminds me almost of a wine. Smooth yet watery.

Drinkability : Rather High, nothing I could drink all night for fear of a massive heart burn. Good non the less.

This beer pours light brown with a pink tint to it. It has a white/pink head that fades slowly, leaving a few laces.

This beer smells like a sparkling strawberry cider. It smells very sweet. I think the strawberry aroma is just a little overpowering.

This beer tastes like carbonated strawberry juice. It is slightly sour also. Not much else to it.

This beer is very carbonated. It leaves a strawberry sweet aftertaste.

I am nt sure that this would be a good session beer. It is just too sweet. It was nice to try it once though.

Appearance - pours a hazy pinkish red, a pale pink head of a finger setting up and looking to hold but is actually melting away slowly.

Aroma - a sure strawberry pulp smell, grain edging its way in as the beer settles. Finishes sonewhere between the two, a curious combination to say the least. Overall, it's a berry owned aroma.

Taste - a sweet syrupy beer. The strawberry is easy to taste, it's everywhere. Some light grain coming in a bit as the sweetness subsides a little, almost a little lambic sourness to it. The ending dries up a little bit as some needed tartness tries to check the sugar level. Pretty tasty as alcopops go.

Mouthfeel - slightly heavier than average, mild to moderate carbonation, lending itself even more to a wine cooler style beverage.

Drinkability - if sweet fruit beers are your thing, you'll enjoy the Melbourn Strawberry, but it's more a novelty than a mainstay.

500ml bottle bought from the Vineyard, Belfast..

Poured a pinky amber colour with hints of copper... Head was white with a slight hint of pink and poured quite foamy but faded pretty quickly...

Aroma - Very sweet, biscuity/shortbread notes, strawberries and cream, floral hints, some spiciness, very slight maltiness....

Taste – Sweet but not too sweet, strong strawberry notes, hints of spiciness, some sourness, vanilla notes...

Feel - Very creamy with a light sharpness underneath... medium body. Pretty drinkable...

Overall - A pretty good fruit beer. Definitely worth a try....

Recieved this as part of a christmas gift from my wife. I didn't think i was going to like it, but i was a little surprized. Pours red with a hint of brown. Not much head, very carbonated. Odor - strawberry syrup. Taste is tart and rife with attempt to hide the alc. flavor. After the alcohol comes more of a strawberry taste that hangs around in the same sort of way that a sweet wine does. Mouthfeel is very fizzy and light. Ok drinkability. I dont really want another, but i enjoyed this one.

Poured a very pale rusty pink colour with no head. Very light lacing. The strawberry smell is immediately noticeable. The smell is very close to strawberry jam; very sweet. There is also a wine cooler characteristic about it [the smell]. Carbonation is mild and the taste is just about what you'd expect from the smell. Very tart and very dry. This is basically strawberry lambic. Not overly sweet; very pleasant. I'm a big lambic fan so I really enjoied this one. I'd buy it again.

Murky amber rust with a loose and sparce white lacing.
Strawberry juice nose with figments of dates, vanilla beans, and Swiss cheese.
Fruitiness, again, is king. The Strawberry hues are clearer, cleaner, and better pronounced that those in the Apricot. This is straight-up strawberry jam. The middle find hints of earth, pink grapefruit acidity, and grapenuts. It fades out with a solid canvas and berry cooler sugariness.
The carbonation is brighter here and keeps the heavy-sweet body from hanging unwelcomely.
It's more or less a berry spritzer with traces of lambic dirt. Hard to call it, but it is better than the Apricot on all accounts.
