Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Eureka Wit

A Belgian white ale with a California twist, brewed with orange peel and coriander. The nose has notes of candy and citrus fruits, with a refreshing finish of Nelson Sauvin hops that’s perfect for those sunny days in LA. It’s a vacation in a glass!

On tap at the Better Weather Fest at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a murky light orange with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable and pretty tasty.

A - Pours a hazy medium pale gold color with a thin foamy layer and light carbonation.

S - Earthy barnyard funk and yeasty.

T - Yeasty, coriander, light Belgian spice and funky lemon tartness/tang/zing that's slightly puckering at the very end. Lingering lemon peel bitterness.

M - Coats the mouth with yeasty coriander and a semi-dry finish.

O - O.K.

Pours no head on a cloudy light straw colored body.
The aroma is mellow fruit, clove and banana.
The taste is balanced with nothing standing out... mildly sweet.
The texture is soft with moderate carbonation.
It's okay. Not offensive but lacking flavor.

NOTE: I think that either the recipe changed or the condition and/or age of the beer at the previous location were factors in my prior review... hence this re-review.

Consumed February 13th, 2014 at P.F. Chang's in Santa Monica, CA.

Beer is presented in a tall pilsner glass with ice around the bottom. Cloudy light yellow with a nicely textured one-finger white head that becomes adequate lacing on the drink-down. Active carbonation throughout consumption.

Aroma is slightly lemony with a touch of banana.

Flavor is like Bavarian Hefe Lite: wheat tang, powdery yeast, lemon, banana, coriander and clove all mingle very nicely, but the flavor is quite muted. The beer did warm as I drank it and the flavor of the wheat began to dominate.

Medium mouthfeel, adequate carbonation.

I would drink this again if it were the best thing on tap, but I will not be seeking it out.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Consumed September 12th, 2012 at BoHo, Hollywood. Reviewed from notes.

Slightly cloudy medium golden brew. No head save for a thin white skin of foam.

Aroma has a touch of coriander and not much else.

Flavor is the familiar wheaty tang. Some coriander on the palate as well. Orange flavor is almost MIA, though it is discernible with effort. Some soft, powdery Belgian yeastiness that lasts. As swallow goes down, the flavor that lingers is coriander. No to low bitterness.

Medium bodied with a little effervescence.

Not much to say other than too much coriander for my taste. Average.
