As the bottle says, copper color, a little hop haze, and a tan head. Some citrus and pine hop aromas, and a healthy malt component.

The hops are present on the taste, slightly bitter, but this IPA is all about the malt backbone. A nice, old school IPA.

Much better than the rating. Drinking it at Hollywood Studio in Florida. Clear, dark gold, minimal foam and lacing. Mildly bitter hop smell. Taste is slightly bitter hops, little bit of malt presence. Clean, crisp, light bodied, slightly mouth drying, tasty.

It's a darker ipa, that goes for the bitter taste, unfortunately it's not as complex as certain ipas, it's more about hitting you in the tastebuds than giving you an experience

Since Angel City seems to have below average ratings from the IPA fans, I instead am going to comment on the marketing. The label is OK for the local ambience of the icon of LA's incline rising from the old downtown and Arts District. But then the label claims a production collaboration with Sam Adams contractors in Cincinnati. Suddenly, the local cover is blown. But I go on their website and Angel City seems like a local brewer in a huge metropolis. You decide.

The beer confirms this problem. It seems average and undistinguished; really lacking character once I get past the aroma. The bitter hops never let go of my buds. Since this IPA is Angel City's cash cow, I think I will hunt in other areas for above average quality.

On tap. Pours clear orange-gold, with a small white head. Nose is nothing much, some faint herbal hops, touch grassy, and grain. Body is nice and lager-crisp, with a short, quick finish. Flavor has grain and floral hops up front, but both are sort of muted

Look - Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Copper in color with a two finger head and significant lacing.
Smell - has a mix of various hop flavors, with pine/spruce standing out the most.
Taste - bold on hop flavor indeed. initial mouthfeel packs a punch of hoppy bitterness that remains until the end. A hint of malt flavor, but mostly hops, hops, and more hops.
Feel - medium-bodied and medium carbonation. Respectable ABV at 6.1%.
Overall - LA isn't exactly known for its breweries, so this is a respectable effort. For me, this is a hoppy brew that lacks a bit on fragrance. It satisfies in one way, but leaves me a bit hanging in another. Not bad though.

Thick head lingers for a long time. Nice hoppy smell. Seems to have a bit a of a citrus taste that's not unpleasant. At 6.1% ABV this is a very nice IPA to drink on a hot SoCal summer's day-- or if you're in downtown L.A. partying.

Pours bright copper with white lacy head. Easy drinking hoppy IPA that’s a bit “rough on the edges” and pares well with taco night. Good standard California culture craft brew at 6.1% ABV.

Smell earthy/piney with hint of grapefruit
Taste if you like a lighter hopped ipa this is worth trying. Not my favorite but very drinkable

Out of the tap at Angel City at LAX.
L - golden to coperate with a half inch white head.
S - hops and pine
T - hops isn't too much about right with citrus, more like grapefruit.
O - A good sipping IPA.

Not a lot of room to sit in LAX and the only place that serves alcohol in the 30 gates.

There's earthy and there's dirty. This would be the latter. Nothing but an unbalanced mess of off-putting, dirty (soil-like) hops with a gritty texture to boot. I can literally feel granules of something in my mouth after each sip. Please avoid. Practically undrinkable.

On tap.

Along with many of the other reviews, not much on the nose. After that, things get better. Color and head retention are good, with lacing down the side of the glass. Good carbonation with flavors of pine and a lemony citrus component. Well balanced overall

16 ounce can poured into a tulip

A: Pours a light pale straw color with a white head, beer is clear, slight lacing and some head retention.

A: Not much on the aroma, really lacking in hops, malts come through pretty strong, might be an old can, no date.

T: Slight citrus and pine hops on the flavor, mild bitterness, finish has aftertaste of pine, hint of malts.

M: Light bodied with a semi-dry finish.

O: Not much of an IPA compared to the many offerings available, maybe but an old can, date on bottom says August 2017.

Not a whole lot here, Had it on draft and didn't get much of the hop aroma that you find in an IPA. Had something missing in the taste. There are plenty of great IPA's out there so I won't be revisiting this one again.

A solid little IPA here, had it on tap in LAX and some bar/grill place. Tasty enough, proper appearance and smell, just the right weight and ABV for an airport beer. Didn't have any distinctive characteristics, but wouldn't say no to another. About the only good experience we had that day at LAX.

On tap at Angel City Brewery in LAX.

This one pours a copper orange color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

Smells like piney astringent hops, sweet caramel, and booze.

This a fairly typical but not entirely well done West Coast style IPA. It's basically too malty, but the crisp hoppiness is still nice. It's also too boozy for the ABV, which is modest.

This is crisp, but a little bit too heavy with the booze.

Not bad but also not really good.

On tap at LAX, served in a shaker pint. Bright, clear, golden amber color with a spare head of white foam. Grapefruit, pine resin, caramel malt. Light to medium body with refreshing carbonation. Straightforward West Coast IPA - hits the spot while waiting for a flight.

Pours a clear copper with a moderate head. Aroma is malty with dank/herbal hops. Taste is malt forward, butterscotch bittering with wet/dank hops. Tastes like a midwest IPA. I am guessing this utilizes the British style of yeast due to its caramel/butterscotch notes. A little too malty for my tastes but each to his own.

L: A copper amber. Pours with a two finger head. Some lacing.

S: Hops. Citrus and pine.

T: Quite hoppy. Unbalanced.

F: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: A good sipper while waiting for the airplane at LAX.

Very unassuming and unhyped ipa. I tend to stay away from ones that are big box store offerings. (walmart, foodsco etc)....but you know what? This was the prototypical west coast ipa, and above average to boot. Some citrus, some pine, minimal malt. Solid bittering. Would i seek it out? No...if its the best option in the aisle? I can live with that

12oz bottle, label notched Jun16
A - deep golden colored ale with a thinner foamy ivory head that leaves a bit of lacing on the glass
S - juicy citric hops, caramel, toasted grain, mild floral hops
T - hop forward and bitter with notes of grapefruit, mango, and pine; some milder malt backbone comes through as caramel and toasty grain providing some sweetness
M - medium body, resinous, finishes dry and bitter with pine and grapefruit lingering on the palate
O - pretty good American IPA, but I find it to be a little too hop forward and lacking in balance.

L: Pours a nice clear orange-gold-copper. A medium amount of light tan head which dissipates down to a thin layer fairly quickly. Ample amount of carbonation can be seen rising up the beer.

S: Nice mellow resin hops with hints of tropical fruit.

T: Tastes very similar to the smell. Mellow resinous hops, hints of tropical fruit. Not bitter. Overall a really great taste. Very well rounded.

F: Medium-full bodied, a light amount of carbonation. Very smooth, in combination with the light carbonation and low bitterness makes the beer taste very "soft", that is, the opposite of a very bitter IPA which might be described as "harsh"

O: Overall I thought that this was a really great IPA. I would get this again.

Want to like this (at LAX)... Pretty generic mid-pack name, logo, and beer, but great for an airport beer.

A- Pours a crystal clear orange amber with white firm head... moderate lace. Needs vigorous pour.

S - Here again - recommend Needs vigorous pour, and let it warm a bit, otherwise starts off very bland. Nose is upfront fresh pineapple with lemon notes. Pleasant herbaceous, sunny, bright style associated with California. so true to style but a little subdued.

T - Taste is bright and gets bigger as you go and the beer warms... fruit followed by nicely bitter pine. Somewhat true to style but simple.

F - Mouthfeel is light but offers an increasingly better and longer finish. I ended up liking and upping my rating over my first impression.

Finish is a long lasting dull pine bitter.

Strong mid-pack airport beer in a bottle. Would definitely try again.

This is a decent IPA. Pours with a nice head. Nice orangeish. Im getting the taste of lychees in the hop notes. Other then that, the bitterness is pretty subdued. And the aroma faded pretty quickly leaving behind a sweet malty backbone. Its alright, ive had better IPAs but its a nice local choice.
