"Vortex ll aged on dozens of pounds of French Broad Chocolates cocoa nibs".Pours nearly jet black except for some reddish brown when held to the light,a thinner deep beige head atop.Aromas of chocolate and nuts with some dark roast coffee, the chocolate really stands out here.Chocolate really hits on the palate along with some nuttiness that really compliments the chocolate well, some roast and sweet alcohol wich creeps as it warms in the finish. This would be a great dessert beer with its rich chocolate flavors although the alcohol gets bigger as it warms. The chocolate seems to become more prevelant as it warms as well, great job here.

22 oz. Burly used motor oil black/brown pour, thin layer of fine tan carbonation on top.

Aroma, Some roast malt, but much larger mocha and chocolates. It is a potent chocolate scent.

Taste, Big on chocolates again. Some roast malt behind it. Caramel, brownie.
It rides the fine line of being too sweet. I didn't find it overly artificial so it was ok to me. Finishes with afore mentioned brownie.

It has a real nice creaminess to it and very little abv presence. It is just a little on the thin side, though. I find all Pisgah's brews to be this way though, except for Valdez for some reason.

If you like the Southern Tier brews Chokolat or Mokha, this one will be right up your alley. It's a big sweet dessert stout.

Pours oil black with no light shinning through even when held to the window. A nice thumb sized chocolate head falls slow with some good lace. Nice looking brew.

Aroma is lots of chocolate, kind of a mixture of chocolate and powdered coco, with an under lying roasted malt body. Some light coffee roast and some fruity hop notes underneath but the cocoa nibs dominate.

Taste is roasted malts much more then the nose would lead you to believe. But also lots of chocolate, but good big stout flavors dominate this one. Some good coffee bitterness that mingles through out the finish with some good fruity hop bitterness to make sure this one in not cloying, but with plenty of lingering chocolate also.

Mouthfeel is really nice big full bodied with smooth carbonation to start and a little kick for the finish.

Overall a big ass stout with lots of chocolate notes. Very well done with the alcohol very well hidden. Defiantly worth a try if you see it some where.

Thanks Jarad for sharing this one at our little Pisgah throwdown. 22oz bottle poured into a teku. Consumed alongside a bottle of 2009 Vortex 2 and Bourbon Barrel Aged Vortex 2 in the name of science. The brew appears brown in color with a tan cap. Some big bubbly head appears and fades quickly.

The nose encompasses pretty much the most amazing array of chocolate depth ive ever experienced in a beer. Just layers of cocoa like cocoa crispies cereal that has a persistent dominating chocolate aspect on so many layers. This is incredible but it hardly leaves room for there to be any scent of beer left to it.

The flavor has some milk chocolate quality blending with bakers cocoa and a little warming alcohol. Midpalate there is somewhat of a dark fruity raison and molasses flavoring before getting earthen with bitter cocoa into the aftertaste. Whereas the nose is dominated by chocolate, the flavor has pleasant nuance.

This is a medium bodied brew with a light level of carbonation. Really an amazing cocoa aroma here that isnt half as crazy into the taste. I could have smelled this beer all night and was happy that some beer aspects were found in the flavor profile instead of being ravaged by nothing but chocolate. I love to drink this again.

Sampled from a 22oz bottle.

Black with no light coming through and a small tan head. Aroma is roasty with dark chocolate and coffee. Flavor follows with nice dark chocolate and roasted malt. A well executed combination. The 11% alcohol is very well hidden. Super creamy with a low carbonation.

A tasty beer that incorporates its chocolate very well.
