I have visited Asheville 8 times since February 2007 and have stopped in at Pisgah at least once on each and every visit. Over this time I have had the opportunity to become a HUGE fan of what the guys in Black Mountain are doing.

A homey place hand crafted by Dave Quinn (owner/brewer) with a nice long wooden L shaped bar with about 15 stools. Also inside is a stage set up for bands. Just outside the rolling doors is a fire pit, picnic table (also hand built) chill area that is used as long as the weather holds.

A ton of Pisgah taps--usually like 10-12 with a nice selection of guest taps as well....like 6-8. Only downer....no cask offerings.

Service and quality are as good as it gets. Pisgah brew is rock solid with rarely a dud offering. Service well....lets just say it pays to be nice to the people that serve you beer!

Great job Black Mountain Boys. For as long as I visit Asheville and for as long as you are in business I will be visiting!

Vibe was friendly and laid-back with both indoor and outdoor seating. The front door leads to steps, and you go down the steps to get to the actual bar -- a bit indirect, but we figured it out pretty quickly. There's a stage and live music was scheduled for later on the night we visited, and a food truck was there (but not yet open when we visited). Service at the bar was prompt, friendly, and helpful without being at all pushy. I was talking about a particular beer that I decided not to try in my selection of four, and when the bartender misunderstood me and poured one anyway, he gave it to me on the house - so obviously no complaints there. Payment was cash-only, though.

The selection was great as far as Pisgah's own beers was concerned, and some well-known selections from other breweries were also available (e.g. Sierra Nevada), as were soft drinks and plain water (self-serve). Like many brewery spaces, this one was still somewhat industrial in style, but that can be forgiven. Overall, worth a stop if you are in the area (a few miles east of Asheville).

Another brewery outside the normal downtown Asheville places, and not too far outside of town. Located in a large building in an industrial area. Walking inside there is a real casual vibe here. The bar isn't too big, but the space is very open with a stage too. There is also an outdoor stage for larger acts. There were 14 house beers on including a few guest taps. The tripel was very good, and so was the Choclatizer. Service was very friendly and prompt. This was a very enjoyable place to hang and have a few beers.

We discovered Pisgah brewing hidden away in an industrial area outside the main downtown. The brewery itself is located (like most) in an old warehouse. They have a medium sized bar serving a good number of beers (10+) including cider and rootbeer. An outside patio area is just outside the large (open) garage doors of the brewery itself. The place was crowded when we arrived, since there was a Leaf Festival of some type starting up in the town proper a few hours later and folks wanted to get a head start on the festivities. Our bartender was very busy, but gave us enough of her time to make us feel welcome.

We sampled almost all the beers, and I have to say that I was impressed. Having had the previous good beers in Asheville, I did have high hopes and they were not dashed after this visit! Not every beer was amazing, but all were respectable. I think the GreyBeard IPA was my least favorite, but I was not overwhelmed by any IPA on this trip, and this one was still better than many others. My favorite was Valdez, a stout made with Dynamite Coffee (roasted just a couple doors down from the brewery) and was full of fresh roasted coffee flavors. We lucked out and bought one of their last 6 packs to take home and I've been slowly drinking through it since getting back. Yum! Juan Valdez would be proud! I also enjoyed the Red Devil, a cherry and raspberry Belgian ale quite a bit. I guess these guys are celebrating their 10 year anniversary so they have been doing this a long time now.

A nice little brewery East of Asheville. You could get a bus from Asheville if needed.
There brews were good. They are known for organic beers.
The only take cash, which was fine. They had outside seating, and with a 75 degree day in early February, it was nice.
It looked like they had bands occasionaly play as well.

I'd definitely recommend visiting.
