Presentation: Sampled on draft at the San Pedro Brewing Company. Listed as Harbor Hefeweizen on the Blackboard.
Described on the Menu and Website as: Naturally cloudy light ale. Fresh wheat malt character with a quenching citrus flavor.
Appearance: Cloudy dark golden body with a yellowy twinge. Thick white head fizzles for a while as it settles but it never completely breaks. Finishes with a thin covering and a little spotted lacing. Medium conditioning.
Nose: Fettling Hefe yeasts are from bold but adequate as they blend with an intriguing Banana and Clove aroma as you work down the glass.
Taste: Light body with a yeasty entrance. Middle has some sweetness but this is tastefully offset with a tight lemony citric finish.
Mouthfeel: Feel is yeasty with some citric bit in the back end and a nice soft, light carbonation, can feel thicker than it actually is.
Drinkability: Nicely balanced with a dependable body. An easy going Hefeweizen with a little more than most.
Overall: Served with a slice of lemon that I removed and left behind on the bar .messy that, but necessary ..however, I actually liked the yeasty boldness in this one, rather refreshing, and a nice change of pace from the thinner SoCal Brewpubs Hefes so often experienced.

On to Round 3, and on to the beer:
Cloudy in the body, though the color is a little on the paler side per style. In fact, it looks as much as a witbier as it does a hefeweizen. Solid lacing notches the socre up a half-point. The nose is pleasant, feauturing some vanilla and banana. Well, at least it's easier to smell som action in this one versus the Bruin Blonde and Port Town Pilsner I sampled earlier. Tasting it, notes of banana, citrus, and phenols help make this hefeweizen pass the test. It's light bodied and moderately crisp, and ends up both tasty and drinkable.
This is the best of the 5 beers I tasted at San Pedro Brewing. Ditch the citus addition, there's enough flavor to keep you coming back to this.
