I was surprised to find a decent cooler case of craft beer / bombers while shopping here. It seems like they want to compete with the nearby Whole Foods in Reston for the same type of clientele.

I found decently fresh bottles of Chimay, Westmalle, and Ayinger Brau-Weisse here at reasonable prices. However, they're pretty limited in their craft beer selection; nothing too out-of-the-ordinary. Microbrew offerings are the usual suspects (nationally available brands like DFH, Widmer, Sierra Nevada etc.) without deviating too much. It's good that they have these available if you were shopping there and wanted a good beer to go along with your groceries, but the selection isn't outstanding enough for reason to take specialized trips here.

To me, Harris Teeter tries really hard to be fancy and charge a premium price for their groceries, but the actual quality of the groceries is no better than any other store. However, they do have a better beer selection than most grocery stores. 90% of their offering is refrigerated, but they do sell a handful of singles that aren't already cooled. The selection is a little boring, but they do sell a variety of micro-brews and local beers. If you can't make it to Total or Whole Foods, then Harris Teeter is a good Bronze medal that will get you something a little more unique than a typical grocery store.

the fact that this place and the Whole Foods just down the road are both at "B+" is a joke (well not anymore, lol)...if you want craft beer in the immediate area, go to the WF, no questions asked

quality: rotation is probably pretty good, everything kept in the cold case

service: grocery store, nonexistent

selection: standard, ho-hum (though good) widespread micros with some locals thrown in (and by locals I mean the two distributed by AB/InBev, Starr Hill and Old Dominion), okay maybe there was some Clipper City but I cannot recall, I left empty handed on this occasion but could certainly leave with something to enjoy, though I have no reason to ever come here with only beer in mind

I won't belabor the points made in the reviews below by listing all of the beers currently in the store. The selection they discuss is still accurate. The prices are decent. They have a lot of local beer, a good selection of other large, micro brews and all the macros. No hard to find selections though. If you are grocery shopping, you will definitely find some very good beers here. If you are primarily beer shopping, go to any number of other places within a couple miles (The Whole Foods in Reston, The Total Wine & More in Sterling, etc.)

Sought this place out while travelling on business based on previous reviews. Although the selection is very good for a grocery store, there was not quite the depth I was expecting. Good representation of Old Dominion, Flying Dog, surprisingly some Magic Hat but only the latest 12-pack, a few Victory, a few Chimays, Ommegangs, and some Irish and English imports. Sadly there was no DFH, Stone, Troegs or Bear Republic, some of which I was very interested in locating. Also can't buy singles. Decent selection, but not earthshaking.

Harris Teeter in all of Northern Virginia is without a doubt the best place to pickup beer. Most grocery stores in the area do not carry nearly as much beer as they do (specifically Microbreweries). I was happy to see they had the entire Saranac Collection, Red Hook, JW Dundees, Widmer, Shiner Bock & Hefeweizen considering most places do not carry there. Also, it has a decent English/Irish section with Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale, Newcastle, Smithwick's, Guinness, Guinness Extra Stout, and so forth. Not only do they have all these beers in cases, but they also have them in indvidual bottles as well. So if you live in the Northern Virginia area, be sure to visit your local Harris Teeter.

This was quite a surprise walking by the beer section of in here and catching Bear Republic products out of the corner of my eye. Pretty impressive all around selection here considering Harris Teeter is a fairly big chain. They have plenty of Old Dominion including seasonals, Victory Hopdevil and Prima pils, Bear Republic Racer 5 and Red Rocket, A decent amount of imports, DFH, Sierra Nevada seasonals, Flying Dog, Troegs, Arrogant Bastard and some Anchor products. I am forgetting a good bit as well. Not any hard to find items here but a solid selection for what its worth.
