Damn, that's a lot of plates!

I hit the Flying Saucer a couple of times while I was in Dallas for business. It is a very enjoyable bar with lots of open space, high ceilings, and plenty of room to move around. I loved the fact that the tables were spaced out more than most places. You know, the ones where they try to cram in as many people as possible. Overall, nice decor, very comfortable, and a nice bar to hang out in.

The food was pretty good. I had the pizza both times that I was there, and the veggie was the best. A buddy of mine had the brats and he is still talking about them. And he is a picky eater.

And now for the beer. The Flying Saucer has a three-page beer menu that contains close to two hundred brews. (The menu is also on their website, which allows you to formulate a plan of attack before you go. I like that.) So, needless to say, the selection is huge. I only have two complaints, though. The first, and most important, is that on each trip there, they didn't have at least a beer or two that I aksed for. And I only had two beers each time I visited. This makes me wonder just how many beers they actually do carry. My second complaint, which is less important and more personal in nature, is that there were no beers on the menu that really "wowed" me. Nothing there that I just had to have. I have been to other beer bars before with big selections and they always seem to have those few beers that I feel that I must drink. Those beers that I will either have that night, or damn well die trying. The Flying Saucer didn't have anything like that for me.

All the servers that I dealt with were friendly, helpful, and exhibited a solid knowledge of the beer being served. That is refreshing to see.

Overall, the Flying Saucer is a great place that is well worth the visit if you find yourself in the Dallas area.

And now I know where the name came from.

Hoppin joint on the water next to Bass Pro Shop leaving Dallas. Large L-shaped bar seats about 30, plenty of tables inside and out, great water views. At least 44 beers on tap... nice assortment, especial of local brews. Very personable bartender, but somewhat bordering on southern cliche. Tasty, reasonable priced food.

Flying Saucer is a pretty good bar for being chain. The selection is large, the craft beer is of good quality, and this one has a decent and open décor/style, and the service is friendly. When it is busy, the service is a bit slow, but maybe that’s not much of a complaint. The food is typical bar food but there are enough food choices and the food is above average. What impresses me the most about Flying Saucer is the large selection of craft beer, which is why it is one of my favorite bars.

Paper menu, no chalkboard. Good selection and organized properly. Go to drink on the lake.

Awesome beer selection! Food is okay, the bratzel is my favorite. Too bad they did away with the free popcorn, it was great for munching on.

Flying Saucer is about as great as a chain experience can be, imho. This one doesn't disappoint. It's not as funky in terms of decor as say the Nashville location but I sort of dig the more modern, darker bar vibe.

The selection is absolutely solid. Service is hard to rate but was above average and speedy enough considering the crowd level.

Food is more or less typical bar food. Still I put Flying Saucer up there for a solid place to stop if you're visiting somewhere new and looking for a good beer (as I was).

Visited May 2015:

Stopped by this place twice while in that part of Dallas. Overall, I got to say that this place was pretty average all the way around, except for the beer selection. They has a number of beer that were local and from the state. That was really the only area of note. The service was very underwhelming. The second night that I went, it must have taken 20 minutes to get a beer...and the place was no where near packed. The first night, I sat at the bar...again, not that packed and I had trouble getting the guys attention to get another beer. Don't get me wrong, I am all about being not being bothered by the staff, but that was over the top. Food - average for what it was. The beers that were served had no head on them. I did note that they did have a cask, yet nothing on tap while I was there and some other special offerings. Something to think about though...sometimes more is not better...it is just more. Probably would not return.
