Notes: An explosion of aromas from Cascade, Centennial and Mandarina hops. Think orange, grapefruit and pine turned up to eleven. It's fully charged, hoppy character, is perfectly balanced by a sweetness from the Munich malt. We've spent more than a decade perfecting our craft, find out how at

Appearance: Darker, close to amber as poured. Slight haze, But you can still see through it. Came out of a bottle but I would have expected a more persistent head. Not much to it and it disappeared quickly.
Aroma: A lot of fruit aromas with I believe grapefruit to be the most upfront. Other citrus aromas are present. A little pepper also.
Taste: Plenty of hop flavor to go around but to me it is not overly bitter. You get the fruits that you smell along with the spicy, peppery flavor. That is actually more upfront than the fruitiness. Medium dry finish with a little aftertaste that is not terrible. What I am not noticing is a malt background which could just be me.
Feel: Nice crisp medium bodied ale with good carbonation. Slight alcohol warmth.
Overall: I was a bit disappointed overall with this ale. As an English IPA I thought it would have been a bigger more memorable experience. I will say it is not a bad ale at all. Also I will try this again as I purchased this at a large chain that sometimes lets its ales get old and does not rotate them out. I could not find a "Best By" date on the bottle so this may be the case. If so I will redo this review if appropriate.

Bottle, Aldi

Pours clear dark gold, decent head to it.

Some citrus aroma, mingled with a jar of coins. Bit weird but not bad.

Taste adds some sweetness that I&G are known for, also mineral character. Slightest bit of bitterness. Medium full body, decent carb.

One of the better beers from them, definitely grab it fresh if you want to try it

500 ml can served cold into a tulip. Yet another LCBO purchase for $3 CDN. This can listed at 5.6% ABV.

Appearance - Slightly hazy dark bronze colored brew with golden highlights. A finger plus of quickly recedeing head is poured; only a small cap remains on top for any duration.

Smell - Certainly English, with the clean grain bill, some initial earthiness, followed by citrus, lemon, grapefruit and especially orange shine through in varying quantities. Certainly a cross between traditional English IPA's and the citrus forward American IPA's of today. There's something I just like about the way this smells, nothing mind blowing but very welcoming.

Taste - Initially again with crisp bitterness for a second then switches to a more sweet flavor with orange and subtle hints of grapefruit in the flavor. Sweeter than the style calls for, nonetheless the citrus hop additions are quite welcome. Eminently easy to drink, and quite balanced.

Mouthfeel - Medium body, slightly sticky, carbonation is medium-low. Finish is not nearly as dry as many English IPA's, but with the flavor profiles, it works here.

Overall - Gunnpowder IPA is not a perfect example of style, I really quite enjoyed this brew, a lot more than I thought I would. Definitely worth a purchase and I can see myself picking up a couple more of these.

This pours a malty, caramel tinged golden. Clear, and brilliant looking. The nose is all barrel, with lots of whiskey sweetness. Vanilla, some toasted coconut, hints of tobacco, a floral note. It’s not a hop forward ipa in the least. I liked it.

This beer has very nice presentation. It pours clear pale amber producing 2.5 fingers of foamy, somewhat lasting, white head that recedes to a surface cap of clumpy islands and a robust collar ring leaving a sticky coat of thick lacing on the sides of the glass. Aroma is toast, cereal and thin caramel malt with a low hop profile of tropical, citrus, pine and earthy herbal. Not much in the way of wood or bourbon from the barrel aging. Taste is similar but not very balanced: sweet fronted with bready toast, cereal and a hint of caramel; fruity hop hints are broad with citrus, pine and tropical present but thin with light bitterness until you get deep in the aftertaste. Wood and bourbon are also detectable but thin. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation; silky and smooth it is very drinkable. Definitely an English style IPA due to its fruity nature and low bitterness. This is the lightest barrel aged beer I have ever tried.

From Hipercor. In Teku glass. After dinner. Very citrusy, with lemony refreshing notes. May be a bit industrialish but its very drinkable and the glass is finished before you notice

Okay, first let's get it straight that this is an ENGLISH IPA. If you know what to expect from it then on the other hand, it is really quite fruity - I feel tangerines mostly, even some candied fruits. Nevertheless, it is not too sweet, very well done for an Old World brew. The good thing about it is that despite the US hops it doesn't try to be more than what it is: a quite good, modern, fruity English IPA.

Without looking at what others have said, I taste citrus but slightly, almost of grapefruit bitters. I favor red racer @6.5% as a sessional but this gunpowder IPA is a lighter IPA at 5.6% and less offensive in every way. it's an easier beer to binge. Sweet smelling and almost orange but only slightly, heavily smells of beer mostly. It leaves a thin sweet aftertaste on your tongue, most of the bitter is on the swallow. My only complaint is it's a bit pricier than most tall boys in Canada. One thing I noticed about this one is pleanty of lace around the brim as you drink it. To me, this indicates quality. I had a second with fried chicken and Doritos and it washed down even easier.

L: Colour is slightly off-gold, mild lacing and head
S: Vanilla, butter, wood, hints of citrus and darker fruits
T: Initial hit of vanilla and oakiness, with a finish of strong citrus fruits
F: Slightly too sweet and a little too strong alcoholic taste for the ABV, but quite drinkable
