500 ml bottle served cool into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for $14.95 CDN. Excited to see this interesting stout back on shelves for another year. Aged in a barrel for 420 days. Best before July 2024.

Appearance - Dark chestnut brown from the bottle, near black in the glass. A finger of light tan head is poured and stays for a few minutes before fizzling away. Trace amounts of lacing left behind.

Smell - Some sweet bourbon smells up front but there's a ton of molasses and maybe even some licorice hiding behind the bourbon veneer. A little bit of marshmallow and some other roasty malts, treacle a possibility as well.

Taste - Damn... Starts with a little bourbon and some booze soaked marshmallows, a glimmer of chocolate followed by some smokey and woody flavors. Plenty of peat and then molasses and licorice to a lesser extent in the aftertaste. Complex and a very nice ride.

Mouthfeel - Thick and syrupy, carbonation is pretty minimal and this will stick to your bones and your mouth. Lovely boozy heat starts rising in the back of the throat, but it's a subtle slow burn.

Overall - Glancing over last year's review - Vanishing Point 03 seems like a definite upgrade with a delicious slow burn, a multitude of deep flavors that come and go and a very pleasurable drinking experience. A perfect beer to spend curled up next to a fire with a good book. Despite the steep cost - will likely purchase another couple for those fleeting times when that occurs.
