A: Pours sort of a cloudy straw color I suppose. Big fizzy white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Spiderweb lacing left on the glass.

S: A light wheatiness with just a hint of tartness. Light citrus in there too.

T: Lactic with some citrus tartness, but not a ton. The wheatiness helps sweeten it up and balance it out.

M: Light and soft, but not watery at all.

O: Really nice berliner. Not very traditional, this one is clearly going for balance and drinkability, most berliners I've had were at least a decent bit more tart than this.

$ 3.15 (Including tax and discount)/12 oz can ($ 0.262/oz) from Spec’s #100, DeZavala, San Antonio, TX. Reviewed 11/21/18.
“6199/6212 10/15/18” on can bottom. On shelf in the store. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.5.
Body – Medium reddish-amber, opaque. When held to the light, becomes a translucent red.
Head – Large (Maximum six cm, aggressive center pour), light pink, low density, rapidly diminishing to a two mm frothy ring and a few small islands.
Lacing – None.
First pour – Light pink, slightly hazy.
Aroma –3 - Smells weakly acidic with just a hint of fruitiness.
Flavor – 3.5 – Not a lot. Some fruitiness but no distinct cherry. Lactic acid tartness. No alcohol (4.5 % ABV), no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Thin, watery, noticeable but non-aggressive carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 3.5 – Another case where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. While the cherry flavor is well-hidden if there at all, the combination of the flavor, aroma, appearance, and palate makes a pleasant drinking experience.

Pours a fairly clear lighter golden color. The head is white, 1 finger, with decent retention. Minimal lacing on the glass.
The nose is lighter, and slightly malty. Slight lemon aroma.
Taste - Wow! This flavor is really quite rich. It has a very pleasing lemon flavor.
The body is light, but not watery at all. The lemon does linger in my throat and it's a nice feeling.
Awesome Berliner. So full flavored and easy drinking. It would be great on a hot day, which, it is for October in Minnesota.

Pours out a hazy golden yellow color. Head is white with no retention and no lacing.
Smells like tart sour lemon. Also getting some grassy and grainy notes. Straight to the point.
Tate like a lot of lemon juice in water.
Mouthfeel is light bodied and highly carbonated. Refreshing.

Very pale yellow with moderate effervescence and three fingers of airy white head that don't last that long. Soapy lacing.

Sour, somewhat lemony aroma. Very tart tasting with strong lemon up front and a cleaner finish.

Light bodied with prickly carbonation.

A clean and refreshing, solid all-around Berliner. 11/2/17 canned on date.

a refreshing and well made berliner, but its hard to not find it a bit simplistic after tasting their exceptional cucumber version of this, which i think is the perfect additive for this base beer, if you like that sort of thing. its fun to have them side by side, and for me, this is a great way to size up, and in this case really fully appreciate, the base beer. this is neat because its very light, dry, and well carbonated, but its also full of flavor, not overly clean on the lacto souring, i still get wheaty tannins and citrusy acidity in pretty high degree. for a second i almost think its a gose, with a light minerality i sometimes get from the salt in that style. i can taste the wheat here too, and despite it feeling light and even thin, it has some grain character, light and crackery but fresh and not at all inconsequential. the high carbonation and dry dry finish make it really refreshing, and there is a minor herbal nuance in there at the end too. easy drinking stuff despite its somewhat high sourness for the style. well done, but the cucumber edition takes this solid base beer to the next level! i could also see this working with other botanicals like lemongrass, verbena, basil, or green tea!

Pours an effervescent & hazed gold with a pinky of ivory colored head. Clear nicely, near zero head retention & lacing

S: Tart lemon, not much else

T: Follows the nose, a little breadynesss & some dryness up front. More of the same as this warms. Finishes dry, tart & with a little lemon

MF: Light body, subdued carbonation

Refreshing, a pretty good take on the style

12oz can into snifter appears hazy golden yellow with a white cap.

The aroma is spritzy with lemony lacto, a touch of minerals and some strange soapiness.

The taste is tart with a bit of that previously mentioned soapiness and wheaty grain.

Its light in body with modest carbonation. A pretty decent berliner.

Really tasty but very mild sour. A little one dimensional, but still a solid and refreshing beer. They also have a cucumber version, just in case you want to drink a beer that tastes like a pickle.

Great summer beer! A one finger head appeared on the pour that dissipated after about 45 seconds. This beer looks like straw or a day-old yellow powerade. It has a pungent lemon-tart smell that can be detected across a college dorm room (literally; my roommate commented on the tart smell). I also detect some haygrass or tart wine flavors.
This is a lemon bomb! If you let it play around in your mouth for a while the beer turns into a sour warhead. And it feels great on the pallett.
This is a great beer to sit and drink after a hot day doing chores outside. This beer would pair well with a pork stirfry, hot weather, and freshly cut grass.

A: Hazy light gold color with a small, airy head.
S: Faint grainy tart aroma, perhaps a little citrusy.
T: Sharp, clean sourness, with little funkiness, with a slight wheaty flavor. Really, just clean tartness.
M: Thin bodied, well-carbonated.
O: This is a weisse that's true to style. Not that interesting as a beer, but it'd probably do great mit schuss (most microbrewed "weisses" are not tart enough, leaving a beer that's cloyingly sweet). Unfortunately, I don't have have syrup right now to try it out, but I'll remember this beer when I get some next.

The can looked intriguing, and I do like weisse beers. This one, however, is a sour, bitter mess. The citrus taste completely overwhelms the beer which, unlike the usual smoothness of a weisse is a too bitter. For $11.99 a sixer at my corner store, I feel ripped off. And I'm honestly not sure what others see in this beer.

A: Lots of lemon-lime citrus with a clean sharp sourness.

A: Light straw color, hazy with a thin head that has solid retention. Light lacing in the glass is evident.

T: Citrusy, lemon-lime flavor, followed by a clean sharp lingering sourness, with a light bready quality in the background.

M: Light bodied with high carbonation. The beer is effervescent.

O: Tasty; the beer has a great citrusy, lemon-lime quality that compliments the beer's sourness. Easy to drink and super refreshing!

Poured at 46°F from a 12oz can (canned on 20Jul16) into a Spiegelau wheat glass. Consumed on 30Aug16.
SMELL: Strong sour green apple and lemon zest aromas are balanced by mild aromas of wheat and subtle aromas of hay, peach, mango, apricot, papaya, earthy hops.
4.25 out of 5
TASTE: The profile opens with strong flavors of sour green apple. Strong lemon zest and mild earthy hop flavors immediately bring balance to the tartness. Subtle flavors of hay and wheat quickly trail as the earthy hop flavors grow slightly stronger. A subtle tropical goodness of peach, mango, apricot, and papaya flow in lastly as the flavors of wheat grows slightly stronger, the sourness somewhat fades, and all other flavors persist.
4 out of 5
NOTE: This is a great Berliner without a doubt. I loved the hay flavors that I was perceiving. It gave this a small Farmhouse Ale feel that I did not think I would find from this brewery. I would love to see this fermented with fruit. This could easily be a Texas great.

Can in trade from blutt59, thanks for the opportunity! Brilliantly clear deep yellow with a good sized pillowy white head that persists. Orange, tangerine, lemon with a hint of light starch. Pretty tasty Berliner!

Straw yellow pour, small head that dissipates to a ring quickly. Aroma is plenty of lemon zest, subtle fresh cut grass and cracker-like malt. Following the aroma well, the taste has a big burst of lemon zest, sight hints of Tajin seasoning and more lemon tartness in the back end. Overall a very solid summer drinker. This was suggested to me by an Austin bottle shop and I'm not disappointed.

Enjoyed this all summer, and hope that Independence brings it back next year. Even my wine loving wife enjoyed this on some hot Texas days. Its a nice example of the style that feels crisp and refreshing, leaves a nice lemony taste.

Nails the look and feel - slight hazy yellow, abundant head that sticks around, crisp feel. Aroma and flavor are bready, lacto, slight lemon, a bit grassy. Acidity is pleasant, modest. None of the off flavors that can crop up with the style - cheesy, dirty sock, diaper, plastic. Well done.

Appearance: A big head of foam tops the clear goldenstraw colored liquid; fizzles away quickly leaving very little lace

Smell: Lactic lemon and wheat bread tones

Taste: Lactic lemon and a hint of strawberry, up front, with the wheat tones underpinning; crisp and tart in the finish

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation; slight puckering

Overall: A nice and refreshing example of the style; I would imagine this would be very popular in Austin at this time of year

Pours a pale golden color with a finger width carbonated head that quickly dissipates. No lacing. Has a lemony tart aroma. Maybe somewhat salty. Has more of a wheat like and lemony tart taste. Very good bit of sourness. It is salty like a Gose. Light to medium bodied with quite a bit of carbonation. Good beer. Very surprised.

Hazy and pale yellow in color with a white head that fades completely and quickly. Has an aroma of fresh malt and a squirt of lemon. Slightly tart in the aftertaste with a dash of salt thrown in for good measure. Light and fruity with some peel coating. No doubt but not as flavorful as had hoped, but overall not a bad go at this hip style.

Worked thru a six pack of this in one night while swimming with the dogs. Great summer beer. Had this on tap last nite before heading home. Poured into a pint mug, light white minimum head on it. Very clear beer, really beautiful to look at. Smell is pretty funky, actually thought this ruined my silipint when I threw down the 6r because I left a little in it overnight. My wife actually tried this after smelling it, can't really believe that. Taste, it is a pucking lemon hit followed up by a fruity finish. So best to describe it is tart at first then smooth on the backend. My wife really liked this. Perhaps her favorite beer from all the hundreds that she has tried. I love this beer and actually feel privileged that I have access to all summer. Independence did a great job with this

Poured from a 12oz can into a pint glass. Acquired as an extra in a trade.

Pours a hazy dull golden body with a small head that reduces very quickly to leave no retention or lacing.

Aromas are lactic, tart, wheaty, spices, citrus, malt. On the tongue is tart citrus, lactic tartness, a slight metallic mineral taste, salt, wheat, finish is dry. Mouthfeel is light, easy drinking, refreshing. Could throw back a few of these on a hot summer day.

Very gose-like. Overall very refreshing and easy to drink.
