A: Pours a nice amber with a solid off white head. Wonderful retention and some nice lace.

S: Aromas of nice candy malts, bitter citrus, and a touch of pine.

T: Fairly hop forward, bitter grapefruit and dank grassy notes. Nice underlying sweetness to round things out, much better than people are giving it credit for.

M: Wonderful carbonation, smooth, with a nice hoppy bite.

D: Good, I like it glad I was sent two of them.

12 oz bottle pours a hazed dark gold color with a large, creamy white head. Retention is very nice as is the lacing, leaves good looking rings down the glass.

Nose yields some juicy fruit and mint hop aromas. Not overly powerful and there is more than enough light caramel and toffee malt balance.

Taste has the same similar balance as the nose. The light mintiness is notable along with a light yeasty fruitiness. The hop flavor is not as pronounced as many of the highly touted IPAs, but pleasant enough and the bitterness is decent. The malts are pretty light, a bit grainy and toasty. I am not getting why Stash rates as low as it does here. I kinda like it...an easy drinking, balanced IPA. Fresh and tasty.

Murky, very dark gold, it looks thick. Basically flat, the lightest wisp of skim.

Smell is muted, a touch skunky, sweetness as it warms, apricots, English ale esters perhaps, lots of caramel.

Taste is blah, like a malty pale ale, fairly bitter, especially on the lingering aftertaste, but no hop flavor really, perhaps a touch of citrus. There's a flash of sweetness mid-palate, a touch fruity, melon, but quickly overshadowed by a bitter, long finish, with a bit of hops peeking out on the aftertaste. A touch of alcoholic heat and plasticy phenols as well.

Mouthfeel is dry, medium bodied, not as thick as it looked, but heavy for sure, at least for my taste in the style.

Drinkability is ok. It's not at all my taste in the style, which is very light malt and huge hops. The flaws are modest though, and overall it's fairly bland for the style, that I could suck it down without pain, but without pleasure as well. Below average overall.

Tried this on tap tonight at Z-Tejas here in Austin.

This is a very sweet interpretation of an IPA. Too sweet in my opinion. It starts off with a berry like sweet flavor that rides all the way through. The bitterness seems more like a sour kind of off flavor rather than the bitterness one would expect for the style. Sweet berry flavor is very present in the finish, and contributes to the almost sticky too thick of mouthfeel.

Overall, this is a lousy interpretation of an IPA in my opinion. The very sweet flavors are out of place, the hop bitterness seems to be more of an off-flavor, and I found myself nearly unable to drink the whole pint.

Thanks to wagenvolks for throwing this in as an extra! 12oz bottle into a DFH Signature glass pours a crisp bubbly orange with a nice frothy eggshell head that lasts as a thin layer and leaves nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is nice floral earthy hops in front of sweet malts. The taste is a nice amount of crisp citrus hops with a decent amount of sweet malts backing them up but giving way to a nice lingering bitter citrus hop finish. The beer is quite light, crisp and refreshing. This is a very tasty IPA, one I could certainly see having again if I get the opportunity.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a hotel cup (sadly).

A: Dark golden hue. Pours about a quarter finger, foamy, white head. Settles slowly. Nice beer ring lacing. A little bubbly carbonation continues to percolate to the surface throughout.

S: Baked Italian bread, with lots of piny hops. A little honey, and lemon citrus.

T: Very piny, very hoppy, with a tinge of syrupy sweetness, and an earthy malt flavor.

M: Mouth puckering hops, resulting in a really dry finish. A somewhat steely aftertaste lingers a bit.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Atmosphere is very nice. Dark golden body, with a nice (albeit slight) foamy head which lingers consistently, and leaves a persistent beer ring. Nose is hearty grain with pine, well complimented with some sweet and citrus. Flavor is not complex, but has an earthy malt, biting hops, and a slight sweet tone for balance. Overall, this is a really good quaff.

Appearance: A hazy, golden-amber body with some small pieces of particulate in solution. Up top, a little over a finger of fluffy off-white head that fades slowly and leaves good lacing.

Aroma: Pungent, citrusy, and piney hops over a caramel malt body.

Flavor: Up front, it's all about the resinous, green, citrusy, and decently bitter hops. Underneath, a biscuity malt body that keeps everything nicely balanced. No sign of the rather high ABV to be found. While no element sticks out, there's something just a bit muddled going on here. Leafy and resinous hops endure in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Just a hint of heat from the alcohol.

Drinkability: In the middle of the drinkability spectrum, just watch out for the alcohol content.

Verdict: I've really been looking forward to trying some new Independence brews. While Convict Hill was worth the wait, I'm not so sure here. At the end of the day, Stash is a pleasant, though generally unexciting IPA.

cloudy amber with a frothy white/creamy head and some decent lacing. Smell was a citrus hops, mixed with a malty caramel thta makes this smell quite balanced. Taste was definatly hoppy, and again had that bit of caramel, and some spiceness about it. Very nice dry finish and not overpowering on the hops. This is a good session beer and will definatly have more. Looking forward to getting some on tap!
